Golden Triangle - Chiang Saen
Mention opium and heroin in any discussion and the phrase The Golden Triangle along with Afghanistan will likely enter the conversation.
But The Golden Triangle has nothing to do with Afghanistan other than the commonality of opium and heroin that are the illegal cash crop of choice for many farmers seeking to eke out a living in both areas.
Personally I have been aware of The Golden Triangle and its reputation as a source of illegal drugs since the Vietnam War.
Having said that I have to admit the name Golden Triangle almost seems like a sexy catch phrase for adventure and glamour.
In fact the Thai tourist industry has caught onto the name to describe our destination -- the geographical point where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. This occurs at the confluence of the Mekong and Ruark Rivers.
So there you go -- take a cool geographical point -- the meeting of three borders throw in a long history of illegal drug activity and give it a sexy name --the Golden Triangle and you have a tourist destination like no other -- right?
Well if you are going to the Golden Triangle expecting to see evidence of illegal drugs you will be disappointed as the only evidence I saw was a bench sponsored by American and Thai Drug Enforcement Agencies.
Does that mean it was not worth going there. On the contrary, drugs or no drugs, it was a great destination to travel to and to experience the meeting of these three countries. We were totally taken by it but then we are easily impressed.
Just to clarity The Golden Triangle is actually a large area of 350,000 square kilometers spread among the above-mentioned countries.

Just a short film today set at the Golden Triangle in north Thailand at the Border
it’s a great photo opportunity so we did what the true tourist does we did just that selfie in front of the map that is quite famous and everybody has to have their Picture taken at this map.
Magnificent statues three large elephants and large symbols dedicated to Buddha and a giant statue of a Golden Buddha I think it’s looking to Bangkok in centre of Thailand
Well then that’s about all you do at the Famous Golden Triangle border crossings there’s a few restaurants and a couple of museums but we didn’t bother to go and looking because there’s really not much to do in the Golden Triangle there’s a market but we didn’t buy anything
Now we have seen it once and that’s enough for us, and would we recommend going there? if you want your picture taking at the boarder of 3 country’s YES have your photo taken but otherwise there’s not much to do there at all

Welcome to the Golden Triangle! Historically this was the opium producing region of Asia. Here the Mekong river flows through three nations, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos. Today we will be exploring the things to see and do in the Golden Triangle.
Our journey starts at the treasure ship where a huge golden Buddha sits. From here you can take a boat ride to see Myanmar and the island of Done Sao in Laos. No visa is required to take the trip to Laos. It’s a small market town that sells souvenirs and snake whisky. Remember you are not allowed to enter the rest of Laos from here without a visa.
Lastly we headed to the Hall of Opium. This museum was created by her royal highness the princess mother in order to educate the public about the history of opium, its uses throughout the centuries and how it played a huge role in medicine and wide spread addiction. It’s one of the best museums in the country and it’s a must visit when you visit the golden triangle.
If you are visiting Chiang Rai, the Golden Triangle makes for an easy day trip and it’s only a 90-minute drive north.
I hope you enjoyed the Golden Triangle!

Chiang Mai Day 3: Chiang Rai, Golden Triangle, & Long Neck Tour ❤ jesseatstheworld
For day 3, we woke up nice and early for our tour to Chiang Rai, Golden Triangle, and the Long Neck Karen Tribe. We literally booked it the night before on the streets, so we had no idea what to expect. Our first pit stop was at what they called a “hot spring.” Our next stop, the White Temple, was one of the prettiest buildings I’ve seen. I was blown away by it, keeping in mind it was built privately. Then, we took a sketchy boat ride to Laos, to visit a market, and passed by the Myanmar border. Finally, we visited the women of the Long Neck Karen Tribe to see the famous girls with rings around their neck and limbs. It was another very tiring day, and we ended the day early back at the hotel. All in all, it was a very unsettling day for me... more about it on a blog post to come (will link it here once it's done). Tomorrow will be a chill day before our flight back to Taipei!

Golden Triangle: THAILAND-LAOS-MYANMAR (Thailand Travel Vlog)
A day at the GOLDEN TRIANGLE in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
We started the day by visiting Choui Tea Farm in The hills of Chiang Rai. It is a very peaceful place. I would love to go back there and stay for a day, sit, and sip some delicious tea! We rode a songthaew ( going up there. It was quite interesting. After a morning of relaxation, we headed to the Thai-Burma (now Myanmar) border. There is a narrow bridge that connects the two countries which is called the Thai-Burma Friendship Bridge. It was very interesting seeing the Burmese cross the border to Thailand. If you're looking to shop, this is the place to be! Everything you need is here. Souvenirs, jewelries, toys, clothes, food, etc. They sell these stuff for a very cheap price, and yes, you can still haggle! We had a quick Thai lunch after that, and then we went to the Laos-Thai border. There you have to cross the infamous Mekong river. We took a boat ride to Laos.

GOLDEN TRIANGLE CHIANG RAI THAILAND, Chiang Saen Opium Smoking-(ADITL BTL EP17)
SAY THANKS w COFFEE & CAKE:
Living in Chiang Rai, so close to the Golden Triangle. It was folly that we hadn't yet properly explored this area, one of North Thailands most popular tourist destinations. We had to check it out. On the journey we find out the optimum position for Opium smoking, learn about ancient Bongs and have an issue with the Toilet industry :-S
If our videos or blog have helped you in any way and you want to 'say thanks'. We have a little thing set up where you can say thank you with coffee and cake. All that caffeine and sugar helps us to keep making these vids for you guys ;-)

To check out some cool places in Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai, Thailand.
If you have time to join Loy Krathong Festival this year. Which will be celebrate on November, 13th 2019. You can check out our 3 days 2 nights plan ????
Day 1: Arrived in Chiangmai.
We checked in a boutique hotel in Nimman area.
Name The Nimman Hotel. The area name is Nimman, therefore, this area will have a lot of hotel have the word “Nimman” in it. So if you try to book a Grab car. Please make sure you have the exact address, otherwise you might end up at somewhere else, with the hotel name *almost* similar to your ????
We spent the night to walk around the Old Town area. Had some nice street food, and ride back to hotel with a tuk tuk.
You have to bargain for a good price.
But it worth trying, specially at night time. They ride fast, and with *no windows* transportation like this. Wind in your hair, a little *need for speed* definitely will make you feel like “Hell yeah, I’m officially off duty. I’m a traveller!”
Day 2: We booked a day tour to visit White Temple, Blue Temple & Black Museum in Chiang Rai. Then the tour continued with a cruise on Mekong River to The famous Golden Triangle (Thailand-Laos-Myanmar)
The tour guide will collect your passport, since you’ll get off the boat and enter Lao’s border area. He will ask if you want a stamp on passport for souvernir.
It depend on you if you want one. Otherwise they won’t stamp on your passport.
Day 3: The festival held for 3 days.
We chose the last day, since we read a lot of review say, they prefer to go on last day. Since there will be more people join for last chance, so therefore, more lantern.
And the more the merrier, right ????
To enjoy the festival to the fullest.
We advise you to join as a big crowd. Buy a ticket, get yourself a seat, and have plenty of good food, just like what we did.
They will have car pick you up at a big hotel, and will have car to drop you back there. Maximum 6 persons/ on a 9 seats car. It’s very comfortable.
Check out the ticket price & reservation on their website at chiangmaipopulartour.com
The ticket will sale fast on Setember and October, make sure to buy it beforehand ????????
Good luck ????

Then we went to visit a village with theThe Karen tribe, which is unofficially Long Neck the tribe, came to Thailand from Burma
The Akha are an indigenous hill tribe who live in small villages at higher elevations in the mountains of Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Yunnan Province in China. They made their way from China into Southeast Asia during the early 20th century. Civil war in Burma and Laos resulted in an increased flow of Akha immigrants and there are now some 80,000 living in Thailand's northern provinces of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai,
Than we went to visit the Golden Triangle in the border
between Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar (Burma)The Golden Triangle[1] is the area where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers.[2] The name Golden Triangle—coined by the CIA[3]—is commonly used more broadly to refer to an area of approximately 950,000 square kilometres (367,000 sq mi) that overlaps the mountains of the three adjacent countries.
Along with Afghanistan in the Golden Crescent, it has been one of the most extensive opium-producing areas of Asia, and of the world, since the 1950s. Most of the world's heroin came from the Golden Triangle until the early 21st century when Afghanistan became the world's largest produce
