Goldstream Provincial Park, BC, Canada
I Visited Goldstream Provincial Park and thought of doing a short video showcasing the natural beauty of the area around the campground.
Goldstream Provincial Park is a government run public campground located in Langford, British Columbia. Just outside of the provinces capital city of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Established in the year 1958 with 173 campsites, children's playground and bicycle track, and washroom/shower facilities. This is just one of many of British Columbia's beautiful provincial parks.

Goldstream Provincial Park, Victoria BC Canada
Goldstream Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. It is known for the annual fall salmon runs in the Goldstream River, and the large numbers of bald eagles that congregate to feed at that time. The total size of the park is 3.79 km(937 acres). It is located in the city of Langford, British Columbia.Recreational fishing is only accessible to indigenous cultures, and not local non-indigenous residents. Restrictive fishing regulations relate to a concept called restorative justice which is outlined in further detail below.
Huge trees stand on the Goldstream River floodplain. Among them are Douglas-fir and western red cedarup to 600 years old. They tower over substantial specimens of western hemlock, black cottonwood, bigleaf maple and red alder, which in turn shade western yew. Steep ridges—home to arbutus, western flowering dogwood and lodgepole pine—overlook the floodplain. Many wildflowers are seen during spring and summer.
Goldstream Park has several hiking trails, one of which offers access to Mount Finlayson.
Abandoned Train Trestle Bridge - Goldstream Provincial Park, BC
Amazing guide and long time friend, Brendan, showed Nicole and Mike a hidden gem, just outside of Victoria. In Goldstream Provincial Park, there is an abandoned train trestle bridge, but to get to it, you have to get through a tunnel and hike past a waterfall. Watch until the end to see Mike almost break his ankle.
Nicole and Mike then quickly explore Canada's oldest Chinatown, in downtown Victoria, before flying back to Vancouver on a Harbour Air seaplane, thus crossing it off Mike's bucket list!

Goldstream Trestle Hike near Victoria
The hike to Goldstream Trestle is one of the more popular hikes around Victoria. The hike is located within Goldstream Provincial Park and can be accomplished within about 2 hours. The hike to the Goldstream Trestle has a fair amount of elevation as well, making it a good workout.
Along the way you are treated with an up-close view of the gorgeous Niagara Falls. While not as big as that other Niagara Falls in Ontario, this waterfall in Goldstream Park is an impressive 156 feet (47 meters).

Goldstream Salmon Stocks Way Down - Students Fishing for Answers
Langford -- Despite the biggest sockeye run in BC in a century, some spawning beds on the island are nearly empty. If you've been out to Goldstream Park this fall, you probably haven't seen many fish. The salmon run is down by 75 per cent and it has left people wondering why so few chum have returned to the river.
Students from St. Margaret's school are studying the lifecycle of salmon. At Goldstream park today they tried to find out why the number of chum salmon is down.
In an average year about 20,000 chum salmon return to Goldstream, but this year just 4,500 have come back to the river.Chum return to rivers to spawn every four years. Scientists say a poor food supply in 2007 is to blame for this year's low chum returns.
In 2007 all juvenile salmon that entered the Straight of Georgia either had really poor growth or really poor survival, or both, says Dr. Dick Beamish, senior scientist at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo. That may also explain last year's collapse of the Fraser River salmon stocks, before September's record return of sockeye, the best in nearly a century.
Fortunately, says Dr. Beamish, future chum returns shouldn't be affected by this year's low numbers. The run this year meets conservation targets, he says, and shoudl be enough for future years.
Good News for the next group of students fishing for answers.
Goldstream Park Trestle Bridge, Victoria. B.C.
The amazing train trestle up beyond Niagara Falls. A few hundred metres of very steep hiking gets you to this breathtaking monument. Though in regular use up until a few years ago, this stunning bridge across an enormous valley is a sight to see.
