STORYLINE
China has just begun work on a railway line that will be one of the world's greatest feats of engineering - and one of the most controversial, because it will be the first track into Tibet. The Chinese say the line is needed to help develop the region economically as part of a huge drive to raise living standards in the west. But opponents who support Tibet's liberation say the line will be used to flood the region with Chinese migrants and drain it of natural resources.

Strong Abrupt Sandstorm Sweeps Northwest China city, Reducing Visibility to 200 Meter
A strong abrupt sandstorm swept the city of Golmud, northwest China's Qinghai Province on Monday, reducing the visibility to less than 200 meters.
Affected by a cold front, the sandy weather, together with gales at the maximum speed of 17 meters per second, occurred in the city at about 16:00, whipping dust and sand into the sky. Trees along the streets swayed violently in the wind, and the city was enveloped in floating dusts.
The sandstorm lasted about 30 minutes.

坐青藏列车去西藏,火车上的食物到底有多贵!!?|Tibet Travel 2020
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway starts from Xining City in Qinghai Province, passes through Golmud City, Kunlun Mountain Pass and Tuotuo River, crosses Tanggula Mountain Pass, and enters Ando, Naqu, Dangxiong, Yangbajing and Lhasa in Tibet Autonomous Region. With a total length of 1,956 kilometers, it is an important route to Tibet. It is known as Tianlu. It is the world's highest altitude plateau railway with the longest journey on permafrost. It is one of China's four major projects in the new century. In September 2013, it was selected as the Global Centennial Project and is a monument in the history of world railway construction. The beauty of the train on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway lies in the scenery everywhere. It will not be lonely for a whole day. It has also become the only way for many tourists to travel to Tibet ~ but do you know, what to eat on the train is especially important during the dozens of hours of train journey, and many tourists complain to qiongji about the exorbitant price of the food on the Qinghai-Tibet train. today i will see how expensive the food on the Qinghai-Tibet train is, and remind the tourists, by the way, how to choose food on train when traveling to the plateau region.

Qinghai
Qinghai (Chinese: 青海; pinyin: Qīnghǎi; Wade–Giles: Ch'ing-Hai; pronounced [tɕʰíŋxàɪ]), also known as Tsinghai, formerly known in English as Kokonor, is a province of the People's Republic of China located in the northwest of the country. As one of the largest province-level administrative divisions of China by area, the province is ranked fourth-largest in size, but has the third-smallest population.
Located mostly on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, the province has long been a melting pot for a number of ethnic groups including the Han, Tibetans, Hui, Tu, Mongols, and Salars. Qinghai borders Gansu on the northeast, Xinjiang on the northwest, Sichuan on the southeast, and the Tibet Autonomous Region on the southwest. Qinghai province was established in 1928 under the Republic of China period during which it was ruled by Chinese Muslim warlords known as the Ma clique. The Chinese name, Qinghai is named after Qinghai Lake (cyan sea lake), the largest lake in China. The province was known formerly as Kokonur in English, derived from the Oirat name for Qinghai Lake.

Why does the Qinghai-Tibet Railway only have one track?
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the world’s highest and longest plateau railway. If traveling to Lhasa by train, you will discover that the most important part of the rail is a single-track railway: but why?
YuZhu Feng Mountain Climbing | JaYoe Travelogues Backstory | Chapter 36
After climbing HABA, I still didn’t have the experience necessary to confidently tackle something like Everest. I wanted to get over 6000 meters on my next climb.
Enter Yuzhu Feng. 6224 meters tall, Yuzhu Feng is not the most technical, but it will get you over the height threshold to experience environments where oxygen is thinning. Anny joined me again as we travelled thru the Tibetan region in the Qinghai province, relinquishing my passport to authorities along the way.
Anny has seen better days, and I thought I lost her at a few moments on this trip due to altitude sickness, but she came thru like a trooper again and we conquered the Sob Gangri.
This video sets up the precursor for my highest climb yet… happening in a couple weeks. I thought it would be good to see my climbing experience before my next climb!
But before I come back to current, take a trip with me to Xian in the next chapter.. a visit I made after we got down the mountain in this episode.
All the points in this video are mapped out on the JaYoe Map page, so if you are interested to go exploring yourself… you will know where to go. Check out the map page at:

As one of the largest province-level administrative divisions of China by area, the province is ranked fourth-largest in area and has the third-smallest population. Its capital and largest city is Xining.
Qinghai borders Gansu on the northeast, Xinjiang on the northwest, Sichuan on the southeast and the Tibet Autonomous Region on the southwest. Qinghai province was established in 1928 under the Republic of China period during which it was ruled by Chinese Muslim warlords known as the Ma clique. Located mostly on the Tibetan Plateau, the province has long been a melting pot for a number of ethnic groups including the Han, Tibetans, Hui, Tu, Mongols and Salars. Tibetans constitute a fifth of the population of Qinghai and the Hui compose roughly a sixth of the population. There are over 37 recognized ethnic groups among Qinghai's population of 5.2 million, with national minorities making up a total of 45.5% of the population.
The area of Qinghai was brought under Chinese rule from 1724. After the overthrow of the Qing dynasty in 1911, the region came under Chinese Muslim warlord Ma Qi's control until the Northern Expedition by the Republic of China consolidated central control in 1928, creating the province.

SUMMARY
=======
The Kunlun Mountains (simplified Chinese: 昆仑山; traditional Chinese: 崑崙山; pinyin: Kūnlún Shān, pronounced [kʰu̯ə́nlu̯ə̌n ʂán]; Mongolian: Хөндлөн Уулс, Khöndlön Uuls; Uyghur: كۇئېنلۇن تاغ تىزمىسى) are one of the longest mountain chains in Asia, extending more than 3,000 kilometres (1,900 mi). In the broadest sense, it forms the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau south of the Tarim Basin.
The exact definition of this range varies. An old source uses Kunlun to mean the mountain belt that runs across the center of China, that is, Kunlun in the narrow sense: Altyn Tagh along with the Qilian and Qin Mountains. A recent source has the Kunlun range forming most of the south side of the Tarim Basin and then continuing east south of the Altyn Tagh. Sima Qian (Shiji, scroll 123) says that Emperor Wu of Han sent men to find the source of the Yellow River and gave the name Kunlun to the mountains at its source. The name seems to have originated as a semi-mythical location in the classical Chinese text Shanhai Jing.

Tibetan Plateau
The Tibetan Plateau (Tibetan: བོད་ས་མཐོ།, Wylie: bod sa mtho), also known in China as the Qinghai-Tibet (Qingzang) Plateau (Chinese: 青藏高原; pinyin: Qīngzàng Gāoyuán) or Himalayan Plateau, is a vast elevated plateau in Central Asia or East Asia, covering most of the Tibet Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province in western China, as well as part of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir state of India. It stretches approximately 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) north to south and 2,500 kilometres (1,600 mi) east to west. With an average elevation exceeding 4,500 metres (14,800 ft), the Tibetan Plateau is sometimes called the Roof of the World and is the world's highest and largest plateau, with an area of 2,500,000 square kilometres (970,000 sq mi) (about four times the size of France). Sometimes termed the Third Pole, the Tibetan Plateau is the headwaters of the drainage basins of most of the streams in surrounding regions. Its tens of thousands of glaciers and other geographical and ecological features serve as a water tower storing water and maintaining flow. The impact of global warming on the Tibetan Plateau is of intense scientific interest.

Sima Qian says that Emperor Wu of Han sent men to find the source of the Yellow River and gave the name Kunlun to the mountains at its source. The name seems to have originated as a semi-mythical location in the classical Chinese text Shanhai Jing.

青藏铁路 The Qinghai - Tibet Railway
Crossing the Tibetan Plateu from Xining to Lhasa on the highest stretch of rail track in the world. Completed in 2006 the railway posed significant construction problems with 550km laid on permafrost and requiring 675 bridges. The railway can be seen as a way of linking occupied Tibet to the rest of China. Tickets are in short supply in the summer season and additional fees have to be paid to secure them. Tickets are made available to the public around two weeks in advance.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using
a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Tarim Basin is an endorheic basin in northwest China occupying an area of about 1,020,000 km2 (390,000 sq mi). Located in China's Xinjiang region, it is sometimes used synonymously to refer the southern half of the province, or Nanjiang (Chinese: 南疆; pinyin: Nánjiāng; literally: Southern Xinjiang), as opposed to the northern half of the province known as Dzungaria or Beijiang. Its northern boundary is the Tian Shan mountain range and its southern boundary is the Kunlun Mountains on the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Taklamakan Desert dominates much of the basin. The historical Uyghur name for the Tarim Basin is Altishahr (六域), which means six cities in Uyghur.
