Pu'an Zhou (普庵咒), from the collection Qing Gu Gong Wang Fu Yinyue 《清故恭王府音乐》
Pu'an Zhou (普庵咒, Incantation/Mantra of [the Monk] Pu'an), piece no. 5 from the collection Qing Gu Gong Wang Fu Yinyue 《清故恭王府音乐》 (Music of the Former Qing [Dynasty], from the Prince Gong Mansion).
The six pieces in the Qing Gu Gong Wang Fu Yinyue collection come from the repertoire of Aisin Gioro Yuhuan (爱新觉罗·毓峘; pinyin: Àixīnjuéluó Yùhuán, 1929-2003), a member of the Manchu royal family of the former Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) who learned to play xiansuo (弦索, string ensemble) music on the sanxian (三弦, a 3-stringed long-necked lute with snakeskin-covered soundbox) from former musicians of the Qing court while growing up in the Prince Gong Mansion (Gōng Wáng Fǔ, 恭王府) in Beijing during the Republic Period.
Pu'an Zhou is also piece no. 9 from Xiansuo Beikao (弦索备考, String Music Reference; also called Xiansuo Shisan Tao (弦索十三套, 13 Suites for Strings), an important collection of Chinese instrumental music published in Beijing in 1814, during the Qing Dynasty.
This recording comes from a 2-cassette set entitled Qing Gu Gong Wang Fu Yinyue 《清故恭王府音乐》, released in 1988 by the China Audio & Video Publishing Corporation (中国录音录像出版总社).
The score pages are from Qing Gu Gong Wang Fu Yinyue: Aisin Gioro Yuhuan Sanxian Chuanpu 《清故恭王府音乐: 爱新觉罗·毓峘三弦传谱》, a book published by Tan Longjian (谈龙建, b. 1952), China's leading sanxian player and a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. During the 1980s, Tan had the opportunity to learn this repertoire directly from Aisin Gioro Yuhuan, who was apparently the only person to have maintained pieces from the Xiansuo Beikao collection in living tradition until the late 20th century.

Beijing Travel Guide - Kung Fu Show
Chinese Kungfu, also called martial arts (Wushu), is a sport item created by the Chinese people during a long time of historical development. Chinese Kungfu on the whole pursues the effect of wrestling and exercise with the use of one’s arms, legs and various cold arms. Correct Chinese Kungfu training improves physical ability, health, and willpower. It gives an individual an excellent method of exercise, a personal art form, a competitive sport, and a basis for self-defense and sparring. Total martial training includes Ti (kicking), Da (punching), Shuai (throwing), Na (controlling), Gi (hitting), Ci (thrusting), etc. Related to each style are basic forms, or sequences, which may involve defense strategies, offense, retreat, mobility and immobility, speed and slowness, hard or soft postures, emptiness and fullness, with or without weapons.
The top concern of the Chinese Kungfu is to settle the relationship between the body and the mind. It emphasizes the “external exercises for bones and muscles and the internal exercises for breath”. All the schools of martial arts stress “presence of mind, breath and strength”, so as to equilibrate Yin and Yang, regulate breath and blood, smoothen channels and collaterals, and build up body and strength. They settle the relationship between “form and content” of Kungfu by settling the relationship between mind and body and the relationship between oneself and his opponent. They all stress “changing according to different opponents”, and “getting opportunities through defending”.
