Spring arrives first in Geoje Island.
Kang Seong-sun is a cruise ship captain here.
A long time ago, this was a deserted island.
But now, along with Oedo and the beaches filled with mongdol, as well as the Wind Hill, there are so many tourist attractions gathered here.
The freshest catch of the day are served up to the visitors as well.
On the 9th trip to find something uniquely Korean, we visit Geojedo.

대한민국에서 가장 먼저 봄을 맞이하는 섬, 거제도. 강선순씨는 거제도를 관광객들에게 소개하는 유람선 선장이다.
예전에는 무인도나 다름없었지만 지금은 봄꽃이 만발한 관광섬 외도와, 동백나무 우거진 작은 섬 내도. 까맣고 동그란 자갈들 너머로 쪽빛 바다가 펼쳐진 학동몽돌해변. 거제 바다를 한 눈에 담을 수 있는 바람의 언덕까지. 펄떡이는 봄 도다리의 몸짓처럼 거제의 봄은 기지개를 활짝 펴고 있다.

Geoje's Jisim-do Island open to public for first time in 80 years
동백섬 '지심도' 80년 만에 시민 품으로
Jisim-do Island, known for its steep cliffs and dense tree population, is finally completely open to the public for the first time in 80 years.
The island sits just five kilometers southeast of Jangsengpo Port on Geoje-do Island.
It served as a military facility during Japan's 35-year occupation of Korea that ended in 1945.
But it's been closed since then, so its natural landscape has been left untouched.
Now that it's open, the public will have access to walking trails lined with apricot blossoms... and the colorful camellia trees that cover up to 70 percent of the island.
Ownership of Jisim-do Island was transferred from the Ministry of National Defense to the Geoje government last June,... after 12 years of retrocession efforts.
The local government now plans to utilize the island's natural resources and history to turn it into a tourist attraction... in order to revive the local economy.

Now that the beautiful Jisim-do Island has been returned to Geoje city, we expect it will help boost the local economy through marine tourism.
The question now is whether... and when... the island becomes one of Geoje's top tourist attractions.

You can just chill on the stunning sandy or pebble beaches, join 2 amazing scheduled tours, take part in fun adventure activities like sea kayaking and ATVs through a lush forest, visit Sea World and or the Maritime and Fishing Folklore Museums, hike to spectacular Gonggoji, Wahyeon Observatory or the bamboo forest and fortress at Gujora, visit Oedo Botanical Island and more. Last year people were swimming and snorkelling, but it depends on the weather. If you have cold toes you can enjoy beach soccer, volley ball, touch rugby etc. People kayaking will be provided wetsuits free of charge if the temperature is on the cold side.

This is a downhill video taken from the peak of Gyeryongsan to the Sangmun-dong area. It is approximately 5km long and quite steep. This beginning of the video is under cloud cover so it may be hard to see things.
