Exploring Baekje Historic Area: Ungjin and Sabi

On 11~12 May 2018, foreign diplomatic envoys in Korea have went on a field trip to Baekje Historic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and related national museums, which was planned by the Korean Culture and Information Service and the National Museum of Korea.
They also have enjoyed watching Arirang, Namsadang Nori, and Ganggangsulae performances.

This field trip is aimed at expanding the understanding of Korea’s cultural diversity and universality.

Tomb of King Muryeong
Baekje, 523 AD

Songsan-ri Burial Mounds, Gongju, Korea

When Gongju was the capital of Baekje, its kings were buried here on Mt. Songsan. The entrance to tomb #7, the burial mound of King Muryeong (501-523) and his queen, is shown here; it was only discovered in 1971, during work on tombs 5 and 6 behind it.

Muryeong was a successful king who achieved several victories over Goguryeo, and sent diplomatic, trade, and cultural missions to Liang China and Japan.

국립공주박물관은 충남 공주시에 위치한 국립중앙박물관 산하 박물관이다.

1940년에 공주에 있는 충청도 관찰사의 행정청인 ‘선화당’을 전시관으로 활용하여 '공주박물관'이란 이름으로 개관하였다.

웅진백제를 주제로 하는 테마 박물관인 국립공주박물관은 짧게나마 백제의 수도였고, 무령왕릉이 공주에 위치해 있기 때문이다.

주요 전시물은 무령왕릉에서 출토된 무령왕과 왕비의 금제관장식등 10여개의 국보도 포함되어 있다. 그중에서도 무령왕과 왕비의 장식들이 화려하면서도 단아하고, 소박하면서도 격식을 갖춘 장식들이 웅진백제의 생활상을 느낄 수 있다.
