s.s. Keewatin - Canadian Pacific - The last Edwardian Liner - Silent Exit March
S Keewatin is a passenger liner that once sailed between Port Arthur / Fort William (now Thunder Bay) on Lake Superior and Port McNicoll on Georgian Bay (Lake Huron) in Ontario, Canada. She carried passengers between these ports for the Canadian Pacific Railway's Great Lakes Steamship Service. The Keewatin also carried packaged freight goods for the railway at these ports.[1]
Built by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Scotland as Hull No. 453, the Keewatin was launched 6 July 1907 and entered service in the following year. She ran continuously for almost 60 seasons, being retired in 1966. Soon after, she was acquired for historic preservation and was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. Her sister ship, the Assiniboia, was also set to be preserved as an attraction, but burned in 1971 and was scrapped.
In the last twenty years of her working life, like many passenger ships of that era on the Great Lakes, the Keewatin and sister ship SS Assiniboia operated under stringent regulations imposed for wooden cabin steamships following the Noronic disaster in 1949. Doomed by their wooden cabins and superstructure, these overnight cruisers lasted through the decline of the passenger trade on the lakes in the post-war years. As passengers opted for more reliable and faster modes of travel, the Keewatin and her sister ship were withdrawn from the passenger trade in 1965, continuing in freight–only service until September 1967. Along with the South American and the Milwaukee Clipper, the Keewatin was among the last of the turn-of-the-century style overnight passenger ships of the Great Lakes. The Keewatin was eventually moved to Douglas, Michigan, in 1967, where she was a museum ship across the river from the summer retreat Saugatuck, Michigan.
The ship had also become a floating set for a number of maritime-related documentaries and television docudramas, including subjects involving the torpedoed ocean liner Lusitania, the burned-out Bahamas cruise ship Yarmouth Castle, Canadian Pacific's Empress of Ireland, as well as the Titanic. She was also used extensively in the opening episode of Season Seven, Murdoch Ahoy, of Murdoch Mysteries.

ABOUT THIS FEED:
Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, in the Canadian Rockies, is located on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), where their Shuswap Sub meets their Mountain Sub. The Shuswap Sub runs to the west to Kamloops, BC (towards Vancouver, BC), and the Mountain Sub runs to the east to Field, BC, through Rogers Pass.
The CP traverses the Canadian Rockies over 2 passes. Rogers Pass, which is to the immediate east of Revelstoke, and further east, Kicking Horse Pass, which is to the immediate east of Field. Rogers Pass is at 4,360 feet (1,330 meters), and Kicking Horse Pass is at 5,339 feet (1,627 meters). To the west of Revelstoke is the lower Eagle Pass, at 1,804 feet (550 meters).
Among the freight trains seen here are unit potash, unit grain, and unit coal. Loaded westbounds feature both mid-train and end-of-train DPU’s, and empty eastbounds have fewer engines, both on front and as DPU’s. Many but not all eastbounds will stop to enter the yard, which is located to the east of the museum and cameras. Also seen are manifests, intermodal, and combined intermodal/manifest..
On occasion, the gates will activate, but will soon after deactivate, with no train, which is due to the switcher in the yard proceeding far forward enough to enter the crossing's track circuit.
There are no VIA Rail passenger trains through Revelstoke, however, during part of the year the Rocky Mountaineer can be seen.
There are 2 ATCS layouts, one for each sub, but there is no server coverage. No radio feeds are available.
There’s no schedule for freight trains, but some of our more knowledgeable members will provide real-time information when it’s available. Please refrain from asking.

The Wadsworth House, Bed & Breakfast, Traverse City, Michigan
Welcome to The Wadsworth House
The Wadsworth House is a recently renovated five-bedroom vacation home in Traverse City’s Historic District. It is located adjacent to Lars Hockstead auditorium, three blocks from West Bay and the heart of downtown.
The Wadsworth has operated for over 100 years, as a rooming and boarding house. Amenities include: a shared kitchen and bathrooms, upscale furnished rooms, incredible location, and a quiet historic neighborhood.
The Wadsworth was initially purchased renovated in December 2012 by the Shaws. They spent countless hours restoring the historical features, and updating rooms and bathrooms.
On May 17th, 2016 Jason and Daena Thibodeau purchased The Wadsworth and continued the renovations and updates. They look forward to continuing the Wadsworth as an inn style vacation getaway.
The History:
The Wadsworth House dates back to as early as 1899 when Mrs. Cora Downing took in boarders. In 1910 the U.S. census listed six residents at 402 Wadsworth. They included Henry and Bertha Sparling – head of household, Mary Louise Fitts-boarder and teacher in Traverse City, Clara Miner-boarder and assistant clerk at the Traverse City clerk’s office, Robert Edwards-roomer and salesman at a local Traverse clothing store, John Hike-roomer and commercial traveler and Etta Minor-roomer who worked as a sales lady at a dry goods store.
The difference between roomer and boarder were meals. The boarders of course were served food and the roomers had a room only. The Wadsworth is currently not serving food, but we do provide a private kitchen with goodies for the guests.
Henry Sparling died in 1951 and the Wadsworth sat vacant for a couple of years until it was purchased by the Anderson family, who ran the home as The Wadsworth House for Girls. The third owner was Francis Vannunen, who deeded the property to Diane Fotchman. Ms. Fotchman continued operations until she sold the home in December of 2012 to William and Deborah Shaw. The Shaws significantly renovated the home over 4 years, until sold to Jason and Daena Thibodeau in May of 2016. The Thibodeau’s have continued (and are still continuing) renovations. The Shaw’s then the Thibodeau’s opened the home as a vacation getaway to Traverse City visitors since 2013.
The Wadsworth is, as far as we know, the only grandfathered-in boarding/rooming house in Traverse City. The Thibodeau’s are operating the Wadsworth under a Traverse City rental license Number CR13-0001.

Just to name a few and all walking distance.
The Wadsworth is across the street from Lars Hockstead Auditorium, 2 blocks from the Cherry County Playhouse, 3 blocks from West Bay, and 3 blocks from downtown. In just 5 minutes and you can be eating breakfast on the patio of Patisserie Amie sipping a cappuccino, strolling the beach for Petoskey stones, or watching a movie at the State Theater.
The walk is not just a walk. It is a river walk, past the turn of the century mansions on sixth street, through the Hannah Park by the old Library (now the Traverse City Arts Center) along the Boardman River. You will think you have landed somewhere in Europe if you walk from The Wadsworth, but that’s just Traverse City.
Who knew Northern Michigan was so beautiful and had so much to offer!

The dispatcher(s) in Atlanta didn't make it easy for me today. After having chased southbound manifest Q667 from Carlton to Hull GA, the signal in Hull was Approach for another southbound. I rushed south to Howie Siding to increase the chase distance, but there all lights were red! I turned and went north again - and promptly bumped in Colbert GA into Q194, which is a northbound (!) intermodal. The chaos with dispatch and signals continued when Q194 was forced to stop at NE Howie Siding, although no southbound train was approaching. Whether there was a signal malfunction or simply confusion - I didn't find out. I had enough and went home.
The leader of Q667 was a new GE Tier 4 ET44AH engine, CSXT #3322.

Mini-Monster - CSX Coal Train with Single Pusher Locomotive
Loaded coal train N050 is southbound in Athens, Alabama at the L&N passenger platform. For a while CSX was running long coal trains, christened Monsters after a comment by a dispatcher, with radio engines inside the long train. This train wasn't one of the long ones, but it had a single pusher locomotive on the rear (instead of two being about 2/3 of the way back).
The lead locomotives are CSX 3202 and CSX 529. CSX 723 is on the rear.

A CSX coal train is southbound at Bethel Road near Thach, Alabama, between Ardmore and Athens.
The OUCX reporting mark is for Orlando Utilities Commission.
