ST Bonaventure UNIVERSITY, OLEAN New York 1
St. Bonaventure
New York
St. Bonaventure is a hamlet and census-designated place in the town of Allegany in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 2,044 at the 2010 census. This community, located between the village of Allegany and the city of Olean, is established around St. Bonaventure University. Since the campus comprises the majority of the CDP, it has a much lower per capita income than most communities in the state, as do the several other CDPs statewide that are drawn around college campuses. St. Bonaventure also has its own on-campus post office and ZIP code, separate from Allegany and Olean's.

Back in the years of 2008 - 2009, during my sophomore year, we (the marching band) made it to State Semi-finals! :D And it's the first time my school's made Semi's in 21 years!!! Lol. A small group of us decided to take over the hotel's pool and have some fun (this was back when we had like 120 kids or so).

Lock 42 & Genesee Valley Canal - History Happened Here Historic Marker Vignette
The Genesee Valley Canal is not well known outside of the region, but it played a vital role in the economic development of the United States in the mid to late 19th century. This lock was one of several on the canal-way that provided access between the Erie Canal near Rochester, New York, and the Allegheny River near Olean, New York. While the Erie Canal provided access from the Atlantic to the Great Lakes via the Hudson River, the Allegheny River eventually meets the Ohio River, which meets the Mississippi, and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. The Genesee Valley Canal provided an important linkage between the three major routes for moving goods and people throughout the US, while avoiding the open water of the Great Lakes. The canal was only open for 35 years, eventually being supplanted by railroads, but many parts of it are still visible today as part of the Genesee Valley Greenway.

Letchworth State Park in Autumn
Letchworth State Park is one of America's Top State Parks (USA TODAY Readers' Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States). It is referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East
Letchworth State Park is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls (Upper, Middle & Lower Falls) between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests.
Autumn is by far the best time to see Letchworth. New York trees turn majestic colors in Fall ranging from red and orange to gold and yellow. Seeing the gorge adorned in color is something everyone should enjoy.
In this video, take a tour through Letchworth State Park in Autumn. We will take you past the Seh-ga-hun-da (The Vale of Three Falls) passing the Three Sisters (Upper, Middle and Lower Falls). Your tour will stop at all of the major overlooks including Inspiration Point, Archery Field, Humphrey's, Great Bend and Tea Table.
The video includes bonus footage of the lower cascade of Wolf Creek call the Shower Curtain Cascade.

Eastern Hills Mall - Raw & Real Retail
This is our walkthrough of the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence, NY from June 23 and 24, 2019. This is a sad dying mall that has a really interesting center corridor that is drastically different than the rest of the mall featuring an almost secret society ritual sort of motif. This mall felt wonderful to walk around.
Check out our ongoing series of dead and dying shopping malls!

Here is some info from Wikipedia. I do suggest you also check out eh much more extensive history on the mall hall of fame blog:
Eastern Hills Mall is a shopping mall located 11 miles northeast of Buffalo, New York on the western border of the Town of Clarence in Erie County, New York, United States. The name Eastern Hills refers to the very low hills that contribute to a slightly higher elevation than the bordering areas along the Onondaga Escarpment. It consists of two long wings running north and south and one short wing running east and west, which connects the north-south wings in a double L-shaped formation. A three-screen movie theater showing mainly independent films is also located in the mall, as well as a small New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office. Eastern Hills is considered by many area residents to be a dead mall and is listed on the website Deadmalls.com.
The Eastern Hills Mall was developed by the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation. The mall was originally to be named Buffalo Mall, but the name was changed to Eastern Hills Mall at the request of the town of Clarence. Fourteen stores opened by November 8, 1971, and the mall was completed by 1972. The original anchors were AM&A's, JCPenney, Sears, Jenss, Woolworth and Hengerer's. Hengerer's became Sibley's in 1981. The mall underwent an extensive overhaul in 1987 that added a food court. Originally the largest mall in the Buffalo, NY area, the mall lost that title to the Walden Galleria in 1989. Sibley's became Kaufmann's in 1990. AM&A's became The Bon-Ton in 1994. By the 1990s the mall was in a state of decline losing many national tenants. In 1997 after ceasing operations, Woolworth closed their store and later that year Jenss closed. In 1998, Burlington Coat Factory moved into the former Jenss location and remained open until 2005. Another renovation to the small east-west center concourse and food court took place in 2005, largely cosmetic in nature. New floor tile was installed in both the center concourse and food court, and imitation fireplaces, small flat screen televisions, and new seating were installed. The longer north-south concourses remained untouched during this second renovation, causing a break in a pink zig-zag floor tile line pattern, which prior to the 2005 renovation could be followed through the entire mall from end-to-end, but now remains only in the north-south concourses, broken by the new tile in the center concourse. In 2006, Federated Department Stores acquired May Company and converted all local Kaufmann's stores to Macy's. By this time, the mall was seeing a minor revival in foot traffic and featured many younger national chains. Many of these storefronts remain empty and only some have been replaced by mom-and-pop stores. Television station WBBZ-TV established its broadcast studios at the mall in 2012.
On January 6, 2016, it was announced that Macy's would be closing as part of a plan to close 36 stores nationwide. The store closed in April 2016. In April 2017, Sears closed their Auto Center. In June 2017, Niagara Emporium opened in the former Macy's space on the first floor, and stating later that they may open on the second floor in the future. On April 18, 2018, it was announced that The Bon-Ton would also be closing as it was going out of business. The store closed on August 29, 2018. On July 27, 2018, it was announced that Raymour & Flanigan would be opening in the former Bon-Ton in 2019. On September 19, 2018, Sears had sold its location in the mall back to the developers. Sears closed in December 2018 after 47 years of operation. As of 2019, JCPenney is the final remaining original mall tenant.
In March 2018, Uniland Development, a local commercial development company, agreed to purchase a stake in the mall's equity, sharing co-ownership with current owners Mountain Development Corporation. Uniland's long-term plans for the mall are to convert some of the mall's space to residential apartments and create a mixed-use development that it dubbed a lifestyle center. The Clarence Town Board approved plans for the lifestyle center in August 2018.

Wally Higgins Dies At 92
August 23, 2018
World War II veteran, Staff Sgt. Wally Higgins of Alfred Station, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, died Wednesday, at the age of 92. Higgins had been awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the New York State Medal for Merit. After the war, Higgins attended Alfred University where he graduated with a degree in ceramic engineering.
Congressman Tom Reed: “Wally was a hero both during war in the air and at home on the ground. A Tuskegee Airman, he should be remembered for his bravery and willingness to serve his country and community up until his final days here on earth.”
State Senator Cathy Young:
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Wally Higgins, a decorated World War II veteran and a beloved member of our community. An original Tuskegee Airman who served in the Pacific Theater, Wally was among the first African-American military aviators in the U.S. Armed Forces. Although he lived during a time when racial discrimination and segregation were still terrible realities in many parts of the United States, his patriotism never wavered and he willingly risked his life for our nation.
It was my honor to induct Sergeant Higgins into the Senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame in 2015 and an even greater privilege to have the opportunity to get to know this extraordinary man. A loving father, husband and active member of our community, Wally’s life was dedicated to service. Despite his achievements, he lived his life with great humility, kindness, compassion and excellence. Everyone he met was a friend.
America has lost one of its true heroes. However, his legacy endures and his spirit lives on in our hearts.”

Remembering Louis Zamperini(Unbroken), Jim Brosnan, Mike Hawker
The Unbroken Hero
HEROISM AND REDEMPTION, THE PITCHER TURNED AUTHOR, AND THE BRITISH SONGRWITER
Louis Zamperini was a young California track star who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Several years later, as part of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he was shot down over the Pacific, and after several harrowing weeks at sea was picked up by the Japanese and sent to a prison camp. After World War II, he was suffering from post-traumatic stress and was saved by his religious connection to Billy Graham. His story was told in the 2010 bestseller, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand. Jim Brosnan was a major league pitcher for a decade, better known for his groundbreaking book The Long Season (1960) about the inner workings of baseball. Mike Hawker was the British songwriter responsible for the hits that made the careers of two of England's top female artists, Helen Shapiro and Dusty Springfield.
Louis Silvie Louie Zamperini (January 26, 1917 -- July 2, 2014) was an American World War II prisoner of war survivor, inspirational speaker, and Olympic distance runner. In 2010 Laura Hillenbrand wrote a best-selling book about his experiences, which was adapted into film in 2014, Unbroken, directed by Angelina Jolie, adapted by the Coen brothers, and with Jack O'Connell playing Zamperini.
Zamperini was born January 26, 1917, in Olean, New York, to Italian immigrants Anthony Zamperini and Louise Dossi. He had an older brother named Pete and two younger sisters, Virginia and Sylvia. The family moved to Torrance, California in 1919, where Louis attended Torrance High School. Zamperini and his family spoke no English when they moved to California, making him a target for bullies. His father taught him how to box in self-defense. Soon he claimed to be beating the tar out of every one of them..... but [he] was so good at it that [he] started relishing the idea of getting even. [He] was sort of addicted to it.[1]
To counteract Louis' knack for getting into trouble, his older brother Pete got him involved in the school track team. In 1934, Zamperini set a world interscholastic record for the mile, clocking in at 4:21.2 minutes at the preliminary meet to the California state championships.[2][3][4][5] The following week he won the championships with a 4:27.8 minutes.[6] That record helped him win a scholarship to the University of Southern California and eventually a place on the 1936 United States Olympic team in the 5000 meters. At 19 he was the youngest American qualifier ever in that event.[7] While attending USC, Zamperini was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and lived in the fraternity house along with his brother.
Zamperini enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in September 1941[14] and earned a commission as a second lieutenant. He was deployed to the Pacific island of Funafuti as a bombardier on a B-24 Liberator bomber. In April 1943, the plane was badly damaged in combat, and the crew were assigned to conduct a search for a lost aircraft and crew. They were given another B-24, The Green Hornet, notorious among the pilots as a defective lemon plane. While on the search, mechanical difficulties caused the plane to crash into the ocean 850 miles west of Oahu, killing eight of the eleven men aboard.[15]
The three survivors (Zamperini and his crewmates, pilot Russel Allen Phil Phillips and Francis Mac McNamara), with little food and no water, subsisted on captured rainwater and small fish eaten raw. They caught two albatrosses, which they ate and used to catch fish, all while fending off constant shark attacks and nearly being capsized by a storm.[16][17] They were strafed multiple times by a Japanese bomber, which punctured their life raft, but no one was hit. McNamara died after 33 days at sea.

Should All Drugs Be Legal? A Soho Forum Debate

That was the resolution of a public debate hosted by the Soho Forum in New York City on October 7, 2019. It featured Jacob Sullum, a senior editor at Reason magazine, and former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson. Soho Forum Director Gene Epstein moderated.
It was an Oxford-style debate, in which the audience votes on the resolution at the beginning and end of the event, and the side that gains the most ground is victorious. This was the Soho Forum's first tie, as the debaters each convinced 9.76 percent of the audience to come over to their side.
Arguing for the affirmative was Sullum, who is the author of Saying Yes: In Defense of Drug Use (2003) and For Your Own Good: The Anti-Smoking Crusade and the Tyranny of Public Health (1999). He was the 2004 recipient of the Thomas S. Szasz Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Cause of Civil Liberties.
Berenson, who argued for the negative, is the author most recently of Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence (2019). Berenson is also a best-selling spy novelist. His popular titles include The Deceivers, The Silent Man, and The Ghost War.
The Soho Forum, which is sponsored by the Reason Foundation, is a monthly debate series at the SubCulture Theater in Manhattan's East Village.
