Brisbane (pronounced /ˈbrɪzbən/[4]) is the state capital of the Australian state of Queensland and is the largest city in that state. With an estimated population of approximately 2 million, it is also the third most populous city in Australia.
The city is situated on the Brisbane River on a low-lying floodplain between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range in southeastern Queensland. The local indigenous people knew the area as Mian-jin, meaning 'place shaped as a spike'.[5]
Brisbane is named after the river on which it sits which, in turn was named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825. Brisbane's demonym is a Brisbanite.
The first European settlement in Queensland was a penal colony at Redcliffe, 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of the Brisbane central business district, in 1824. That settlement was soon abandoned and moved to North Quay in 1825. Free settlers were permitted from 1842. Brisbane was chosen as the capital when Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony from New South Wales in 1859.
At a municipal level, the city is governed by the Brisbane City Council. In 1925, the City of Brisbane Act was passed by the Queensland Government, abolishing 20 local government authorities in the city and forming the largest local authority in Australia.[6]
The city played a central role in the Allied campaign during World War II as the South West Pacific headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur.
Brisbane is fast becoming a world city renowned for its culture, architecture[7] and landscape[8]. The metropolitan area is surrounded by many national parks, and contains many rivers, bays and inlets. The main airport serving Brisbane is Brisbane International Airport, located 14 km north-east of the CBD. In 2009, Brisbane passed Melbourne as Australia second major international airport on passenger volume.
Brisbane has hosted many large cultural and sporting events including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, World Expo '88 and the 2001 Goodwill Games. In 2008, Brisbane was classified as a gamma world city+ in the World Cities Study Groups inventory by Loughborough University.[9]

Brisbane /ˈbrɪzbən/[4] is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of 2.2 million,[1] and the South East Queensland urban conurbation, centered on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3 million.[1] The Brisbane central business district stands on the original European settlement and is situated inside a bend of the Brisbane River, approximately 23 km (14 mi) from its mouth at Moreton Bay. The metropolitan area extends in all directions along the floodplain of the Brisbane River valley between the bay and the Great Dividing Range. While the metropolitan area is governed by several municipalities, a large portion of central Brisbane is governed by the Brisbane City Council, which is by far Australia's largest Local Government Area by population. The demonym of Brisbane is Brisbanite.
Brisbane is named after the river on which it sits, which in turn was named after Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825.
The city played a central role in the Allied campaign during World War II as the South West Pacific headquarters for General Douglas MacArthur. Brisbane has hosted many large cultural and sporting events, including the 1982 Commonwealth Games, World Expo '88 and the final Goodwill Games in 2001. Brisbane is the largest economy between Sydney and Singapore, and as of 2008 is classified as a Global city.[5] It was also rated the 16th most liveable city in the world in 2009 by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Tourism plays a major role in Brisbane's economy, being the third-most popular destination for international tourists after Sydney and Melbourne.[75] Popular tourist and recreation areas in Brisbane include the South Bank Parklands, Roma Street Parkland, the City Botanic Gardens, Brisbane Forest Park and Portside Wharf. The Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary opened in 1927 and was the world's first koala sanctuary.[76]
The suburb of Mount Coot-tha is home to a popular state forest, and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens which houses the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium and the Tsuki-yama-chisen Japanese Garden (formerly of the Japanese Government Pavilion of Brisbane's World Expo '88).
Brisbane has over 27 km (16.8 mi) of bicycle pathways, mostly surrounding the Brisbane river and city centre, extending to the west of the city. The river itself was popular with bathers, and it permitted boating excursions to Moreton Bay when the main port was in the city reaches.[76] Today fishing and boating are more common. Other popular recreation activities include the Story Bridge adventure climb and rock climbing at the Kangaroo Point cliffs.
The nearby Australia Zoo, made famous by Steve Irwin, also encourages many tourists to visit Brisbane.[77]

Story Bridge is a symbol of Brisbane. It has been popular since 2005 with an unusual program to climb the bridge. Hello Welcome Can I challenge myself? Yes Anyone can apply if you apply at the center under Storybridge. I'm from New York. I'm excited to see the scenery and the sunset from the top of Brisbane. Whether alcohol is drinking. You can not bring anything back to the story bridge. Therefore, the whole body is thoroughly inspected. Even coins in your pocket are not allowed. I got permission to shoot in advance, I was also examined without exception. Wraps the bands up to the bracelet. Safety is paramount. Do you care about safety? Of course. We do not allow silk pins in women's heads. We need to remove everything in the watch, hairpin, and pocket because if it falls down, a big accident can happen. We are ready to wear all sorts of equipment to keep our safety on the bridge. I'm not scared. I'm ready. I finally headed for Story Bridge. The bridge, started in 1935, measures 1,375 meters in length and 80 meters in height. Especially the entire leg is made of iron. Lined up in a row and climbing up a steep staircase. Storybridge connects the north and south of the city across the Brisbane River. I'll come down and drink a beer at the Storybridge Hotel. It's a beautiful place. It takes quite a while to reach the summit than I expected. Bridge Arrangement Six-lane, round-trip Bradfield Highway runs. The taste of climbing on top of it is very exciting. The safety equipment worn on the body is connected to the legs, but the higher the height, the more fear increases. You can see the Brisbane River, where ships always pass by, at a glance. CityCat, which is used not only as a cruise ship but also as a means of transportation, is being offered to citizens. good. It was not hard to come up. It is one of the three climbable bridges in the world. Brisbane overlooking there is slim and beautiful. A new look of the city can be seen. I really like Brisbane. We did it. New York does not have a program to go up this bridge. I can get up on the Empire State Building, but I like it because I'm here. I like the air.

Brisbane Bike-way on the ride to work today
The last few kilometers of my ride to work. Starting at Wesley hospital in Toowong, we ride along the Brisbane river, coming off the Bike-way alongside Coronation drive in Milton. We cycle past Suncorp Insurance and up over the foot bridge onto the concourse of Suncorp stadium. Glorious blue skies, ends with Mick complaining about something or other.

2030 Greater Victoria Commonwealth Games - Greater Shepparton
A revolutionary approach across Victoria led by the Greater Shepparton City Council would see a potential Commonwealth Games held across eleven regional cities in 2030.
#GreaterSheppUpdate: For details, plus more local info, first, free and from the source, tap to
‘The Greater Victoria’ bid concept will be announced Thursday at the iconic Victoria Park Lake in central Shepparton attended by Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem, Member for Shepparton District Suzanna Sheed, Victorian sporting legend John Steffensen, and other members of a newly formed bid working group including chair Adem Karafili, deputy Chair Nick Holland and Heloise Pratt AM.
“What we are unveiling today is a ‘first of its kind’ vision – the “People’s Games” - and what we believe could form the blueprint for future major sporting events given the cost required and infrastructure needed to hold global competitions like the Commonwealth Games,” declared Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Dinny Adem.
“Importantly, staging a ground-breaking concept such as this across regional cities and towns will leave a legacy for millions of people like we have never seen before. The economic and social impact will be so significant, not to mention the wave of optimism that would sweep the state,” suggested Mayor Adem.
“For us, Greater Shepparton with our rich multicultural mix is truly representative of what the Commonwealth Games is all about. Thirteen per cent of our population are born overseas and we’re home to the largest Aboriginal community outside of Melbourne, just as the Commonwealth Games is representative of many faiths, races, languages, cultures and traditions”, contends Mayor Adem.
As Melbourne did in 2006, the Greater Shepparton Council has appointed a Goodwill Partner should our vision for the 2030 “People’s Games” be successful.
Co-founded by young Victorian and former Young Australian of the Year Hugh Evans, international advocacy organisation Global Citizen aims to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030.
Regional Victoria has already staged many international sporting events and a standalone Commonwealth Games would be a further step forward and reinforcing Victoria as Australia’s premier sporting state and bringing sport to the people.
As part of the initial concept it is proposed that the venues for the ten compulsory Commonwealth Games events could be (PROPOSED ONLY):
•Aquatics including Para-Swimming Events – Greater Bendigo Indoor Aquatic Leisure Centre
•Athletics including Para-Athletic Events – Shepparton Sports Precinct at a new stadium
•Badminton – Ballarat Badminton Centre
•Boxing – Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports and Entertainment Complex - Traralgon
•Hockey – Geelong Stead Park Hockey Centre
•Lawn Bowls including Para-Lawn Bowls – Shepparton Park Bowls Club
•Netball – Ballarat Sports and Events Centre
•Men’s and Women’s Rugby 7’s – Skilled Stadium – Geelong
•Squash – Shepparton Sports Stadium
•Weightlifting and Para-Powerlifting – Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports and Entertainment Complex - Traralgon
While preliminary ideas for venues of optional Commonwealth Games events may include (PROPOSED ONLY):
•Men’s Basketball – Shepparton Sports Stadium
•Women’s Basketball – Bendigo Stadium
•Road Cycling at the Warrnambool/Port Campbell, Mountain Bike Cycling at Mount Buller and Track Cycling at Bendigo’s Tom Flood Centre
•Diving – Greater Bendigo Indoor Aquatic Leisure Centre
•Gymnastics – Geelong Convention Centre
•Rowing – Lake Nagambie
•Sailing – Lake Mulwala, Yarrawonga
•Tennis – Wodonga Lawn Tennis Centre
•Triathlon – Victoria Park Lake - Shepparton
As part of the bid concept, Greater Shepparton City Council is proposing up to three test events for the 2030 Commonwealth Games – Cricket, Softball and/or Beach Volleyball in Mildura and BMX in Shepparton, with Greater Shepparton Council currently bidding for the BMX World Cup.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Brisbane ( (listen)) is the capital of and the most populated city in the Australian state of Queensland, and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane's metropolitan area has a population of approximately 2.5 million, and the South East Queensland metropolitan region, centred on Brisbane, encompasses a population of more than 3.6 million. The Brisbane central business district stands on the historic European settlement and is situated inside a peninsula of the Brisbane River, about 15 kilometres (9 miles) from its mouth at Moreton Bay. The metropolitan area extends in all directions along the floodplain of the Brisbane River Valley between Moreton Bay and the Great Dividing Range, sprawling across several of Australia's most populous local government areas (LGAs)—most centrally the City of Brisbane, which is by far the most populous LGA in the nation. The demonym of Brisbane is Brisbanite or Brisbanian. One of the oldest cities in Australia, Brisbane was founded upon the ancient homelands of the indigenous Turrbal and Jagera peoples. Named after the Brisbane River on which it is located—which in turn takes its name from the Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825—the area was chosen as a place for secondary offenders from the Sydney Colony. A penal settlement was founded in 1824 at Redcliffe, 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of the central business district, but was soon abandoned and moved to North Quay in 1825, opening to free settlement in 1842. There was conflict between the European people and the Aboriginal people from 1843 to 1855. The development was partly set back by the Great Fire of Brisbane of 1864, and the Great Brisbane Flood of 1893. Brisbane was chosen as the capital when Queensland was proclaimed a separate colony from New South Wales in 1859. During World War II, Brisbane played a central role in the Allied campaign and served as the South West Pacific headquarters for United States Army General Douglas MacArthur.Today, Brisbane is well known for its distinct Queenslander architecture which forms much of the city's built heritage. It also received attention for its damaging flood events, most notably in 1974 and 2011. Major landmarks and precincts include; the South Bank Parklands and the Queensland Cultural Centre, City Hall and King George Square, the Story Bridge, the City Botanic Gardens and Parliament of Queensland, ANZAC Square, Howard Smith Wharves, Fortitude Valley, West End, Roma Street Parkland, New Farm Park and the Brisbane Powerhouse, St John's Cathedral, Mount Coot-tha, Redcliffe and Moreton and Stradbroke Islands. The city is a popular tourist destination, serv ...
