Here the wind is a constant factor and the course design lends itself to all ages and all levels of ability and in traditional links style the encourages inventive shot making.

Riding the Cockle Train from Goolwa to Victor Harbor, South Australia
The Cockle Train is a historic train route that runs between the towns of Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor, on the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia.
During the holidays it is hauled by the Steam Ranger, but at other times, as in this video, it is hauled by the venerable SAR 400 Class Red Hen, which was in use as a commuter train in Adelaide from the 1950s to the end of the 1970s
A.R.H.S (SA Division) 60th Anniversary special part 5. Goolwa to Strathalbyn. 16-6-2012.
SteamRanger steam locomotives Rx 207 and 621 are seen departing Goolwa for the return trip back to Mount Barker. As the two separate trains are now combined into one, 7 carriage train, Rx 207 and 621 are now double heading. This video clip features parts of the journey between Goolwa and Strathalbyn. 16-6-2012.
On Saturday 16th June 2012, SteamRanger Heritage Railway ran two steam hauled trains to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Australian Railway Historical Society (South Australian Division) from Mount Barker to Goolwa and return.
Rx 207 hauled an economy class train comprising of 3 Centenary carriages while 621 hauled a first class, premium economy and economy class train comprising of first class sleeping carriage Finniss (which I was in), Bowmans, first class steel carriage 503 and premium economy steel carriage 710.
Rx207 and her train departed Mount Barker at 10am and headed for Strathalbyn whilst 621 and her train departed Mount Barker for Strathalbyn at 10:30am. At Strathalbyn both trains met (Rx207 and her train in the crossing loop while 621 and her train took the main line) and a photo opportunity was organised with both steam locomotives standing next to each other. 621 and her train then departed Strathalbyn for Goolwa and half an hour later Rx207 and her train departed Strathalbyn for Goolwa.
On arrival at Goolwa the first class passengers spilt into 2 groups, 1 group went for lunch at Café Delish (Signal Point) while the other group took a cruise on the paddle steamer the Oscar W. Both groups then swapped over. Premium economy and Rx207's economy class passenger enjoyed lunch at a local hotel in Goolwa.
At Goolwa 621 and her train shunted into the passing lop to allow for Rx207 and her train to arrive. After the two consists were joined together to form one train, Rx207 and 621 proceeded to Goolwa depot for turning and watering.
Rx 207 and 621 arrived back at Goolwa railway station at around 2:30pm and at 3:15pm the double headed train departed heading back to Mount Barker. The climb from Strathalbyn to Philcox Hill with Rx207 and 621 hauling the 7 carriage train was absolute magic and proved to be the climax of what was a great day of celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Australian Railway Historical Society (South Australian Division).

A Visit to Port Elliot
A look at the harbour town of Port Elliot last Sunday. We have visited before and then it was in glorious sunshine and the video is here in my collection on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Port Elliot is a charming historic town set on scenic Horseshoe Bay. The town was established in 1854, the year Australia's first public (horse-drawn) railway began operating between Goolwa and the town. Port Elliot's intended purpose as an ocean port for the Murray River was, however, unsuccessful. The bay proved less protected than was first thought and the port was moved to Victor Harbor.
Best watched in HD.
As always just having a bit of fun and sharing the sites of South Australia that we have visited.
Take care and stay safe.
Port Adelaide - National Railway Museum - South Australia - You Travel Australia
One of South Australias hidden treasures, the spectacular Port Adelaide Railway Museum is the largest showcase of its kind, offering a glimpse into the history of Australias rail road network. With over 100 exhibits from the State Commonwealth and private railway operators.
Take a leisurely stroll around the grounds to view the many exhibits on offer. Climb into the cabs of giant steam engines and walk through elegant restored and original railroad carts, from both past and present.
The museum's operated primarily by volunteers and they encourage people to participate in the running and refurbishment of exhibits.
The museum offers a scaled steam train ride around the perimeter of the facility and is available for free to all visitors, except during special events. Trains depart regularly from Callington Station, which is located at the northern end of the museum adjacent to the car park.
The museum also offers a cafeteria car which is available for birthday bookings and party rentals during operating hours. The facility also offers a unique book and souvenir store, where childrens toys and models are readily available for purchase.
An amazing facility detailing the importance and major role rail transportation played in the establishment of, not just South Australia, but the entire country. We highly recommend checking this place out. Check their website for more details.
