Todra Gorge is a gorge/canyon on the east side of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The mountain rises up to 160 m/(525 ft) above the road and the river in the gorge. The place provides spectacular views and is popular for rock climbing and hiking. In this video: views from Tinerhir, the city close to the entrance of the gorge, the gorge from the road and hike across the mountain and above the gorge.

Morocco, Maroc, Tinerhir et Gorges du Todra
Todgha Gorge (Arabic: مضيق تودغا) is a canyon in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, near the town of Tinerhir. Both the Todgha and neighbouring Dades Rivers have carved out cliff-sided canyons (Arabic: wadi) on their final 40 kilometres (25 mi) through the mountains. The last 600 metres (1,969 ft) of the Todgha gorge are the most spectacular. Here the canyon narrows to a flat stony track, in places as little as 10 metres (33 ft) wide, with sheer and smooth rock walls up to 160 metres (525 ft) high on each side.

The tiny glacier stream is something of a misfit, the river which once filled the gorge must have carried a lot more water. It is easy to hike in the gorge along a well-maintained paved road. The scenery is spectacular. Local people live in the area and can be seen with their small donkeys or herding camels and goats.
The area is no longer as remote as it once was. A well-maintained asphalt road leads up the valley from Tinerhir to the gorge. A concrete road continues up the valley, past the hotels at the mouth of the gorge all the way to the villages of Aït Hani, Tamtatouchte, and Imilchil.
Thanks to its robust rock sides with many uneven surfaces, todgha Gorge is popular among rock climbers. More than 150 routes rated French Grade 5+ to 8 have been bolted in the canyon.

Tinghir, also called Tinerhir (in Arabic: تنغير, and in Tamazight: ⵜⵉⵏⵖⵉⵔ) is a small city in the Southeast of Morocco between the high Atlas mountains and the little Atlas, known for the beautiful Gorges called Todra Gorges.
The Name Tinghir in Amazigh language (berber) originally referred to the foothills of the Atlas mountains.
According to the 2014 census, the city of Tinghir counts around 42000 inhabitants, while the whole province has 322400 (Tinghir being the capitale of the province also called Tinghir.
It is one of the major tourist attractions in Morocco not only because of the Todra gorges but also because it is in the middle of one of the biggest oases in southern Morocco. The view of all the palm trees along Todra valley is just fascinating.

Morocco: Ait Benhaddou, Agdz and Gorges du Todra
Aït Benhaddou is a 'fortified city' along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco. Aït Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and several films have been shot there.
Agdz which means resting place is located on the old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. The lively market is held weekly on Thursdays.
Gorges du Todra. The final 600 m of the Todra gorge are the most spectacular as the canyon narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in places, with sheer and smooth rock walls up to 160 m high on each side.

A 15 km du centre de Tinghir, portes d’entrée du Haut Atlas, des villages de Tamtatoucht et d’imilchil, les gorges du Todra, hautes falaises de calcaire qui semblent telle une faille creusée par l’oued Todra depuis des millénaires, impressionnent par leur à-pic spectaculaire plongeant jusqu’au lit de la rivière.
Avec des cimes qui s’élèvent jusqu’à 300 mètres au dessus du Todra qui serpente depuis sa source dans les montagnes du Haut Atlas, les gorges du Todra occupent une place primordiale dans la vallée; d’une part, en protégeant le cours de l’oued Todra qui alimente la palmeraie sur plusieurs dizaines de km mais aussi de part leur fonction symbolique et identitaire pour la population bien consciente que la position géographique de Tinghir se définie souvent dans cette oeuvre naturelle et unique.
Les gorges constituent par ailleurs un point de contact important entre la vallée et les montagnes culminantes du Haut Atlas. Malgré cet apport économique, les gorges du Todra subissent une dégradation certaine tant humaine que naturelle, celle-ci causée par les fortes intempéries qui provoquent crues et inondations du Todra.
Les gorges sont bien entendu le départ ou l’arrivée de nombreuses randonnées; de la ballade de quelques heures autour et dans la palmeraie, au trek de plusieurs jours…
