Gorichen Peak Gorichen Peak images, best time to visit Arunachal Tourism History, Reviews, Photos of famous
At a staggering height of 21300 ft. Gorichen peak is the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. The peak is considered by the local Monpa tribe as the protector from evils. Gorichen is a technical peak and only seasoned mountaineers try to make it to the top. You get a good view of the peak from the outskirts of Bomdila.Gorichen peak, also called as Sa-Nga Phu is well visible from Tezpur. The view on the road Nechipu to Seppa is also pretty good. Most tourists come across it while traveling from Bomdila to Tawang. The snowcapped peak offers a beautiful view across the valley. Even though Gorichen is the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh it is not directly visible from Tawang. Even when you are at high altitude places like Sela and Bumla you wouldn’t be able to notice Gorichen Peak.Very few tourists travel to the base of the peak and even fewer go on a mountaineering expedition. The distance from Nuranang to the base of Gorichen Peak is about 25 kms, so if you are interested you can visit it when you are Nuranang.Keep your eyes open for the view of the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. The background is ideal for photographs. If you are in Bomdila or Tezpur do go the distance to get a view of this majestic peak. This is the first civilian expedition to Mt Gorichen, organized by the State department of Sports & Youths Affairs in collaboration with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. If successful, it will be a curtain raiser for high altitude trekking and mountain expeditions to Arunachal Himalayas.

Bailey Trail Trek | Arunachal Pradesh
The trail traces the historic routes taken by Lt. Col. F. M. Bailey and Capt H. T. Morshead during their survey in the Arunachal Tibet border during British rule in India to draw the famous McMohan line in 1914. This route gain popularity as Bailey Trail. The Bailey Trail trekking route goes through remote forest, high mountain passes, crystal clear lakes, abandoned army bunkers and breathtaking views of Gorichen and Kangto peak.
Sela Pass, a high-altitude mountain pass in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh
Flying over Sela Pass, is the high-altitude mountain pass located in Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh state of India. It has an elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) connects the Buddhist city of Tawang Town to Tezpur and Guwahati and is the main road connecting Tawang with the rest of India. Tawang is situated at a distance of 78 km from Sela Pass while Guwahati is at a distance of 340 km.
The pass has hardly any vegetation and is usually snow-covered to some extent all through the year. During winter temperature in the pass can go down to −10 degrees. This place is snowed in most of the year and offers excellent and heavenly views all year round. This part of the Eastern Himalayan range is pretty special for the Buddhists as it is believed that about 101 lakes exist in and around Sela pass and each of these lakes has a huge religious significance for the Buddhist community. Very close to the Pass is the beautiful Sela Lake (sometimes called Paradise Lake because of its beauty), which could be fully or partially frozen in winter. Some small rivers also flow out of the lake and during grazing season, yaks grazing around the lake. While Sela Pass does get heavy snow in winters, it is usually open throughout the year unless landslides or snow require the pass to be shut down temporarily. Sela Pass is the main route to access Tawang town, and given the proximity of Tawang District with Tibet.
Sela Pass is situated at a distance of 78 km from Tawang town. The pass is open throughout the year. During landslide and heavy snow the pass is shut down temporarily. Tawang district lies in close proximity to Tibet and is also the main rout to access Tawang.[4] Border Roads Organization (BRO) of India works hard to keep the pass open throughout the year. While summers at Sela Pass are not very cold, temperature in winter can dip down to -10 degree Celsius.
According to legend, a sepoy of the Indian Army named Jaswant Singh Rawat fought alone against the Chinese soldiers near the pass during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. A tribal woman who had brought food and water to him (named sela)) is said to have killed herself upon seeing the dead body of Jaswant Singh rawath . Singh was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his courage and devotion to duty.

Amazing Snow View in Arunachal Pradesh
Driving to the remote part of Arunachal Pradesh in the north east corner of India was an exhilarating experience . Colours change with every curve in the mountains and so does the scenery. bright yellow mustard fields merge ith some brilliant orchids that suddenly morph into dense forests with rivers gliding past them to snow clad mountains and conifers kissed by snow flakes to frozen lakes to a valley of clouds that wrapped mountains…
If there is heaven on earth, this is it . A valley of clouds that hid everything from mountain peaks to grasslands , flowers and birds and touched our cheeks gently as we got down to capture it on our lens .
Tawang set high in the Eastern Himalayas The mountains curved as River Kameng . It had just snowed. All of a sudden, it was white all around. Snow, ice and clouds – all around. A glacier , snow clad mountains wrapped in a valley of clouds was all you could see till you came to a gate guarded by dragons with bright coloured flags fluttering all around.
At Sella Pass , where history and romance meet at 13700 feet. At the height of Indo-China war in 1960s, Sella was a local maiden who had fallen in love with Jaswant Singh , an Indian soldier . She died a martyr and the pass was named after her and was marked as a boundary between India and China. Jaswant Garh,a memorial for the soldier is also close by.
Tawang is a town which sees the first rays of sun in India, but ironically the sun never shines . The temperature was many numbers below zero. Tawang is famous for its monasteries, gompas on one end, a war memorial on the other .Its a town ravaged by war and was once in possession of the Chinese. The home of the Mompas, Tawang is known for the lakes and waterfalls. And we set out looking for them. This is the road that takes you to Tibet and China.
Snow was snow scattered all over , carpeting a mountain here and there , while the lake was frozen. There were several lakes , a mix of water and ice ;some with coloured flags fluttering high, some dotted with a small temple .
Getting there Tawang is in Arunachal Pradesh and you need a permit to visit AP. You can get one at Gauhati. A long journey by road via Tezpur and a stop over at Bomdila or Dirang is a must .Ideally break the journey into two days . A commonly-used route is Tezpur to Dirang by road. During this journey, one comes across the check post at Bhalukpong. To do this, tourists usually hire a Tata Sumo, which are readily available near the bus station in Tezpur and the only model available for tourists. A seat in a Tata Sumo will cost you around Rs 600/-. These old war horses do a great job running over roads which are sorely in need of an asphalt surface.
Bhalukpong is the entry point of Arunachal Pradesh, located in West Kameng District and is 60 km from Tezpur. This small town is a mesmerizing place for wildlife enthusiasts as it is close to the Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary. The mighty river Kameng enters Bhalukpong after completing turbulent courses. This mountain river provides rare opportunity for adventure tourism.
Passing Bhalukpong, Tenga Valley and Bomdila, you will reach the fabulous stone village of Dirang after nine hours of journey.
