4K | Ultimate African Safari and Gorilla Trek in Uganda
In 2018 I went on a safari trip in Uganda, the landlocked African country at the equator.
The journey started in Entebbe at Lake Vicoria and continued to Queen Elisabeth National Park with the broad Kazinga channel and the tree-dwelling lions. In the rain forest of the Kibale National Park I watched the chimpanzees in the tree tops. The highlight of the journey was the Mountain Gorilla trekking in the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park next to the volcanoes of Virunga.
Further stops were at Lake Bunyonyi (world's fourth deepest lake), Lake Mburo National Park and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in Entebbe.
In the video you can see the notorious big five animals (lion, buffalo, rhino, elephant and leopard) in their natural habitat.

Again we would like to take this opportunity to thank Red Chilli Hideaway, for the wonderful trip and specialty Mr Hassan Nsubuga, our driver, ranger, organizer and friend! Thank you!
Our trip to Uganda took 10 days, and I'm sure I'll never forget it. On the top of the cake was the company of two of my sons, Marta and João, since Joana couldn't come due to her busy work agenda. Finally a great thanks to Carlos, long time true friend who, with Red Chilli Hideaway have designed the trip.
This is the second video of a serie of video I'll produce, and I pretend to give you a quick feel of this wonderful and friendly country, UGANDA!
Most tourists who come to Uganda visit more than one destination. You can combine your Queen Elizabeth safari with gorilla trekking safaris in Bwindi, or tour Murchison Falls National Park. For relaxation after your wildlife safari, you can visit Ssese Islands but if you are more interested in adventure, take on rafting on the nile, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale, Rwenzori Mountains climbing and Mount elgon hike.
Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated 1,978 square kilometres (764 sq mi). The park extends from Lake George in the north-east to Lake Edward in the south-west and includes the Kazinga Channel connecting the two lakes.
The park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park. It was renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its wildlife, including Cape buffaloes, hippopotami, crocodiles, elephants, leopards, lions, and chimpanzees. It is home to 95 mammal species and over 500 species of birds. The area around Ishasha in Rukungiri District is famous for its tree-climbing lions, whose males sport black manes. Poachers killed six elephants in the park in 2015, triggering both anger and frustration within the Ugandan conservation community.
The park is also famous for its volcanic features, including volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes, such as the Katwe craters, from which salt is extracted.
Services in the park include a telecenter run by Conservation Through Public Health and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, neighboring the Queen's Pavilion, park lodges, game and scenic drives, and boat launches.

Uganda: Planning a Trip to National Parks | #WhereisAJ?
AJAY JAIN
Sub-Saharan Africa is teeming with wildlife across many countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia to name a few. But Uganda is where you may want to be in despite it not featuring on too many itineraries.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority ( is doing a good job managing over 10 national parks and I was fortunate to visit three of their finest recently. Join me in my game drives and plan your own itinerary accordingly.
PARKS VISITED
* Murchison Falls National Park
* Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
* Queen Elizabeth National Park (drove through Ishasha wildlife sector to get here and got a good sense of this park too)
PLANNING AN ITINERARY IN UGANDA’S NATIONAL PARKS
No amount of time is enough is you really love being in the wild and close to its flora and fauna. But we all need to draw a line somewhere - do provision for at least 2-3 full days in each park. When you visit Bwindi, you can be there for just two nights - you arrive on day one, go gorilla tracking the following morning, and return the following day.
MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF EACH NATIONAL PARK
* Murchison Falls National Park: It gets its name from falls by the same name on the Nile river. Don’t miss out on a river cruise where you can get close to the falls and feels sprays all over you (and your cameras!!). The river itself is home to countless hippos and crocodiles while the park boasts an impressive line-up to include lions, leopards, elephants, hyenas, giraffes, water buffaloes and many species of birds, reptiles and other mammals. The landscape draws you in - from the crack of dawn till night falls. Magical is the word for Murchison.
* Bwindi Impenetrable National Park: You go to Bwindi for the endangered Mountain Gorillas. They sure make you work hard for the sightings. Expect to be out all day tracking them through thick forests and slushy paths; the hilly terrain tests you, and be prepared to fall, slip and slide on your backside. A good scrub is what you will need at the end - but the sightings of gorillas will leave you glowing.
* Queen Elizabeth National Park: Another park that will leave you stunned with its virgin beauty. Elephants are to be found in abundance here - as are many other species of birds and animals. Take sunset cruises in the Kazinga channel and go up close to hippos, water buffaloes, crocs and thousands of birds hovering around you. Vast plains with pockets of thick forests make game drives a pleasure and an adventure - you never know what lurks around the corner.
SELECTING THE RIGHT GAME DRIVE VEHICLE AND GUIDE
Your experience in the jungle is largely shaped by your guides and the vehicles they use. You can choose from the comfortable closed vehicles with an opening in the roof or from those open on all sides; I prefer the latter as I can shoot from all angles and also remove the soft covers should I need angles from higher up. I always interview guides before selecting one - not only is their knowledge important, but they should have a good sense and intuition in tracking animals. Of course, no one can guarantee any sightings.
DO YOU BOOK A GAME DRIVE VEHICLE ALL FOR YOURSELF OR SHARE?
It all depends on your budget. A shared vehicle in obviously cheaper but it gives you lesser flexibility in choosing shooting positions as well as asking the guides to take you to your areas of interest. Personally, I save elsewhere but prefer to have a vehicle and guide to myself. I cherish the relative privacy too - it resonates well with the silence of the forest.
HOW DO YOU TRAVEL BETWEEN NATIONAL PARKS IN UGANDA?
Most parks in Uganda are within a few hours driving distance of each other. Of course, it can take longer if you were to go directly from, say, Murchison to Bwindi. The road network in quite extensive in Uganda, and they are mostly of good quality with low traffic density. You can also book rides on small planes that land on strips inside reserves but these are more expensive than equivalent flights in countries like Kenya; lower numbers in Uganda lead to higher operating costs here.

Kampala, Entebbe, Reptile Village, Murchison Falls and Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda, 2016
A report on our travels in Uganda. We started out with a walking tour of Kampala. I highly recommend this 3 or 6 hour walk which is lead by Zulaika -
In Murchison Falls National Park is located on east and west sides of the Nile river. On the east side it's a rain forest and on the west it's more of a savanna. While at the Murchison Falls we saw a variety of wild animals. Hippos, crocodiles, baboons, elephants, jumping monkeys, monitor lizards and various bugs.
After the falls we returned to Kampala. After a day we took a Post Office bus to Kabale in the south west of Uganda. From Kabale we went to a crater Lake Bunyonyi that is over one mile above see level. The depth of the lake reaches 900 meters (over 2700 feet). Locals who live around the lake get around by canoes that are extremely hard to maneuver. People were very friendly and kids never missed an opportunity to practice their English.
We returned to Kampala and immediately left for Entebbe. We stopped by the Botanical Gardens where the original black and white Tarzan was filmed. In the morning on the day of our flights we visited the Reptile Village. Monitor lizards, crocodiles and chameleons were within reach.
Some of the things we didn't do was mountain and silver back gorilla tracking and chimpanzee tracking.
Overall, Uganda made a great impression on both of us. I highly recommend visiting this amazing country. We are definitely planing to return.
UGANDA: 3 TOURIST MASSACRE SURVIVORS LEAVE ENTEBBE AIRPORT
(4 Mar 1999) English/Nat
Three survivors of the massacre of a group of tourists in Uganda have left Entebbe Airport amid an intensified hunt for the Rwandan rebels who carried out the attack.
Four British nationals, two Americans and two New Zealanders were hacked to death with machetes after the Hutu rebels, based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, raided several tourist camps.
Meanwhile in Kampala, the eight bodies of those killed were being prepared to be flown out of the country.
For eight foreign tourists the chance of a lifetime - to visit southwest Uganda's impenetrable Forest.
But their trip ended in a violent death at the hands of Rwandan rebels.
The Hutu rebels initially kidnapped 31 foreigners as part of their crusade to undermine Rwanda's Tutsi-led government.
Seventeen of these escaped or were freed shortly afterwards.
But 14 more were frogmarched towards the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Eight of these were killed while the remaining six were released.
Now those that survived the brutal attack must try to come to terms with their recent trauma.
Australian Pathen Brocke escaped capture in the park.
And Danja Walthers, a Swiss flight attendant, told journalists in Kampala on Wednesday the rebels forced the hostages to walk barefoot through the jungle.
The survivors - on their way to Nairobi - were accompanied by Mark Ross.
Ross, the American-born pilot and guide is credited with negotiating the release of the six survivors.
And he said that in spite of recent events, he would return to Uganda once the park is deemed safe.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I'm not giving up the business, that's for sure - if someone is shot in New York City, people still go to San Francisco. A vast majority of East Africa and Southern Africa is fantastic - wonderful wildlife and wonderful people. No I'm not giving up the business at all. What happened was a really sad, freaky and, I think, unpredictable
occurrence, unlike the wildlife which is quite predictable.
SUPER CAPTION: Mark Ross, Survivor and Tour Guide
The search for the killers is focusing on dense jungle just over the border.
A government newspaper says the army has arrested a suspect who had apparently helped brief the rebels on where to find the tourists.
F-B-I and Justice Department teams are also investigating the attack.
Uganda's president admitted on Wednesday partial responsibility for not protecting the tourists from the rebels.
Potential tourists will now think again before journeying to the Ugandan rainforest in the hope of spying on rare mountain gorillas.
The rebels say they wanted the world to know there is a war in Congo -- a goal the bloody murders have surely accomplished.
