Ukraine, Vinnytsia: Budget for school projects
The practice of a participative budget is used in many cities of Ukraine. However, an existing system enables participation for people 18 years and older. On our way to being a child-friendly city, we wanted to change this system. Thus, we decided to introduce a
new mechanism, which would be engaging for younger people and would help children to advocate for their needs and priorities. Our solution was to run a contest of projects for children who are 10- to 18-years-old. We invited participants to develop projects that
enhance their schools. We approached the project as an opportunity to discover new avenues for collaboration between children, local authorities, and civil society. For this, we secured support from local NGOs with extensive experience in project management, who helped to develop a contest framework and participated in project evaluations. UAH 1 million has been allocated from the budget of Vinnytsia City United Territorial Comunity for the implementation of 11 winning projects. (≈ € 34.5 thousand ).
Key project results:
- the platform for identifying, discussing and solving social issues affecting youth today has been created;
- development of a regulatory framework (Competition Regulations, the decision of the executive board), which may become an auxiliary tool for other communities;
- 8996 studentss of 5-11 grades (41% of the total number of students of the specified age) have been involved in the project at different stages.

Historical Reconstruction in Vinnytsia
A large-scale reconstruction of historical events was carried out in the center of Vinnytsia.They timed it to coincide with Ukraine's Day of Defenders. The military production was organized in Vinnytsia because this city was the first capital of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, established one hundred years ago.
