EXPLORING SPLIT (CROATIA) The magnificent CATHEDRAL (Katedrala Svetog Duje)
SUBSCRIBE: - Sunset at the Cathedral, Split (Croatia). Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Split, a town on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is known for its beaches and the fortresslike complex at its center, Diocletian's Palace, erected by the Roman emperor in the 4th century. Once home to thousands, its sprawling remains include more than 200 buildings. Within its white stone walls and under its courtyards are a cathedral and numerous shops, bars, cafes, hotels and houses.
Croatia is an Eastern European country with a long coastline on the Adriatic Sea. Encompassing more than a thousand islands, it's also crossed by the Dinaric Alps. Its inland capital, Zagreb, is distinguished by its medieval Gornji Grad (Upper Town) and diverse museums. The major coastal city Dubrovnik has massive 16th-century walls encircling an Old Town with Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

Our visit Zagreb travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Croatian), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, quirky neighborhoods, museums and a hockey game. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Zagreb tourism brochure, Zagreb itinerary or Zagreb, Croatia city tour also known as Zagreb, Hrvatska.
10 Things to do in Zagreb, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Our travels in Croatia brought us to Zagreb known for its lively street markets, vast green spaces, and varied architecture that spans numerous movements, we reached the capital and hit the ground running. In this video we’re going to show you some fun things to do in Zagreb, as well as share our favourite place for sampling the most delicious truffle dishes:
From the main square you have the Flower Market, and if you head up the steps, that leads to Zagreb’s Central Market.
Zagreb Cathedral is one the city’s main landmarks. This is the largest sacral building in the Gothic style southeast of the Alps, and it’s pretty easy to spot the spires wherever you are in the city.
Our walk through the Upper Town eventually lead us to Tkalčićeva. These days you’ll find a lively street lined with restaurants, cafes and bars.
We reached what may be the most memorable museum in the whole world: The Museum of Broken Relationships. The museum is a global crowd-sourced project that deals with heartbreak. Inside you’ll find curious objects with a corresponding story.
St. Mark’s Church bears the medieval coat of arms of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia on the left-hand side, and the emblem of Zagreb on the right.
To enjoy city views of the Lower Town there are some great vantage points along the promenade.
On our way down from the Upper Town, we walked through Zagreb’s famed Stone Gate. Once the eastern gate into the medieval settlement now houses a small chapel.
Let’s take a break from all the sightseeing to introduce you to one of our favourite restaurants in Zagreb when it comes to truffle dishes
And craving more views of the city, we then went up Zagreb 360.
Known as the Green Horseshoe, this park was named after Milan Lenuci who came up with the idea of creating connected green spaces right in the downtown. The horseshoe is home to several museums, galleries and archives.
If you’re into hockey and you visit Zagreb during the season, you can catch a game in the city. We watched Medveščak Zagreb play.
And that’s it for our visit to Zagreb! We hope you enjoyed this travel guide and that you got a few ideas of things to see, eat and do on your own visit.

Tkalčićeva Street, Zagreb, Croatia (9 June 2018)
My favorite street in Zagreb is Tkalčićeva (tuh-KAHL-chee-chay-vah), which on this Saturday night was a parade of (mostly) locals strutting their stuff. Plus Batman.

Zagreb, Croatia’s northwestern capital, is distinguished by its 18th- and 19th-century Austro-Hungarian architecture. At its center, Upper Town is the site of the Gothic, twin-spired Zagreb Cathedral and 13th-century St. Mark’s Church, with a colorfully tiled roof. Nearby is pedestrian-friendly Tkalčićeva Street, lined with outdoor cafes. Lower Town has the main square, Ban Jelačić, plus shops, museums and parks.

3LHD Tower 123
The business Tower 123 is a design by invitation for the new and tallest building in Zagreb and in Croatia. The solution for the design has been made after identifying the shortage of quality public space on the location of the Tower and the surrounding district. The analysis revealed the coexistence of two matrices-one modern and urbane, and the other, the remaining rural architecture which has been absorbed by the city space. It was evident that both matrices lacked quality public space. The principal avenue at the entry to Zagreb has been conceived as the main business area, thus giving to the image of the city a thoroughly new appearance. The Business Tower 123 is planned to become the key element of the whole area, with its height of 123m and the advanced DIAGRD structure which is a strong, safe and cost-effective diagonal structural concept. A trapezoidal ground plan is without columns which provides for various ground plan possibilities. The interior space of the tower is shared by business and public areas. The ground floor consists of a tall multi level lobby with access from all directions and different levels; the public facilities -- a café and a restaurant are located at mid height of the Tower and on the top floor, where a belvedere with a 360° sightseeing area and a Museum of Zagreb Urban Development have also been planned. The roof area is reserved for a heliport. The Business Tower 123 will be the tallest building in Croatia and in the whole region.

ZAGREB 2
Kaptol Square is dominated by this cathedral, formerly known as St Stephen's. Its twin spires --almost permanently under repair -- soar over the city. Although the cathedral's original Gothic structure has been transformed many times over, the sacristy still contains a cycle of frescos dating from the 13th century.
Ban Jelačić Square is the central square of the city of Zagreb, , named after ban Josip Jelačić. Many of the buildings on the square have antique façades which require renovation.
Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square (popularly referred to as Zrinjevac) is a square and park in Donji Grad, the central part of Zagreb. It is located near the central Ban Jelačić Square, halfway towards the Main Railway Station.
Starčevićev dom is a building on today's Ante Starcevic Square in Zagreb. It was built by voluntary contributions of citizens. Today, it is the City Library and the Registrar Office Library in Zagreb.
Zagreb Glavni kolodvor (Zagreb main station) is the main railway station in Zagreb. Located 1 km south of the city's main square, it is largest station in Croatia and the main hub of the Croatian Railways network.

Osijek in 60 sec — Croatia | DRONE FOOTAGE | Pointers Travel
Osijek - City on the Drava River was named after the word oseka which means „low tide“. It's the fourth biggest city in Croatia with a population of about 100,000 and the cultural, economic and academic center of Slavonia and Baranja region. Osijek is located at only 20 kilometers from the confluence of the Drava and the Danube. In this part of the European Podunavlje (Danube region) Croatian and old Austro-Hungarian heritage meet and you will first notice that in the architecture and rich traditions and gastronomy.
Top things to see and do in Osijek
5. Visit Tvrđa - Tvrđa (eng. citadel) is the Old Town of the city of Osijek in Croatia. It is the best-preserved and largest ensemble of Baroque buildings in Croatia and consists of a Habsburg star fort built on the right bank of the River Drava. Tvrđa has been described by the World Monuments Fund as a unique example of an eighteenth-century baroque military, administrative, and commercial urban center. Climb atop the walls of Tvrđa and enjoy the beautiful view of Drava River and the old town of Osijek.
4. Osijek Co-Cathedral (The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul): the co-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek, is a neo-Gothic sacral structure located in Osijek, Croatia. The multi-tiered 90-metre spire is one of the city's landmarks. The church was built in 1898 on the initiative of the Bishop of Đakovo Josip Juraj Strossmayer. The church is entered via a small door to the right of the main portal, overlooked by a trio of gargoyles. The interior is a treasure trove of neo-Gothic ornamentation, with a succession of pinnacled altars overlooked by exuberant stained glass windows. The interior was finished in 1938–1942 when leading Croatian painter Mirko Rački covered the walls and ceilings with brightly colored frescoes illustrating famous episodes from the Old and the New Testament.
3. Osijek Zoo and Aquarium: spreading over 11 hectares on the Drava River bank opposite of Osijek and is the largest zoo in Croatia. Here you can enjoy the nature as well as see over 1050 animals and 108 animal species. It is open every day so the only thing you need to visit is a bit of good weather.
2. Kopački rit nature park: Kopački rit is a floodplain that developed due to the activities of two large rivers, the Danube and the Drava. Significant flood areas exist in the northern, southern and western surrounding parts of the Nature park that stretch from Batina up north, to Bijelo Brdo down south and Donji Miholjac towards west. Kopački rit is a beautiful nature park known for its many species of birds as well as fish, molluscs, mammals and other interesting animals.
1. Zlatna Greda eco center: one of the must-see destinations when in Osijek! It is a stress-free place in the heart of Kopački Rit. It has an accommodation facilities and a restaurant but it's best known for its adrenaline activities: treasure hunts, zip-line, adrenaline park, rock climbing, tug-o-war, canoe adventure and many more things. It's child-friendly so whether you're coming with family or with friends, you're guaranteed a day to remember.
