WORLD'S BIGGEST MIRROR | Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia
THIS ADVENTURE MADE POSSIBLE BY: Kuoda Travel
/// The Bolivian Salt Flats in Uyuni, Bolivia are one of the most beautiful and unique places we've ever been! They are the biggest in the world (10,000 square kilometers of salt!). We drove 70 miles in the middle of the flats and had a gourmet picnic, and then hiked on an island that has formed on top of the flats. We ended the day with a gorgeous sunset and settled in our salt hotel for the night!

Is Uyuni Worth the Hype?! Bolivia's Salt Flat
The Uyuni salt flat also commonly known as salar de Uyuni is a less shared destination in the middle of Bolivia. I have had the Uyuni salt flat reflection on my bucket list for a couple years now, but the problem is, we visited August 2019 during dry season. Was our visit still worth it?

Earth's BIGGEST Mirror - Wonder of the World
One of the most incredible places in this world is this, the Word's Largest Salt Flat in Bolivia called Uyuni. Today I venture off into the middle of the salt flat on my KLR 650, it's a dangerous and risky thing to do, but as the day progresses I realize the permanent damage to the bike because of the saltiest water on Earth, is a small price to pay for the most amazing sight I've ever seen.

More than just a tourist destination: Bolivia's salt flats are key to its future
Bolivia hopes it will revolutionize its economy by becoming the Saudi Arabia of lithium as global demand for the resource explodes.

World's largest MIRROR: Salar De Uyuni salt flat in Bolivia
A salt flat in Bolivia called the Salar De Uyuni is consisted to be the largest mirror in the world. The salt flat itself takes up 10,582 sq km (4,086 sq mi) of territory and even after a mild rain looks like a white landscape mirror.
Scientists say that such large flat is covered in a few meters of salt crust, due to the transformations between several prehistoric lakes. Over the years this gigantic flat has become one of the top travel destinations in Bolivia (especially spectacular during the car racing championships).
The significant tourism demand has created the need for new hotels, many of which are created with the help of the only material available in the region – the salt. Walls, furniture and even the roofs of the rooms are created with salt, how cool is that?
To find out more about unusual destinations in Bolivia and other colorful countries of the world, please check out this video presentation:
In our video clip we have briefly reviewed such incredible tourism destinations:
- Fly Geyser, Nevada, USA;
- Lencois Maranhenses National Park, Brazil;
- Devil's Bridge, Germany;
- The Door to Hell, Turkmenistan;
- Horsetail Fall, USA;
- To Sua Ocean Trench, Samoa;
- Jigokudani Monkey Park, Japan;
- more video reviews are coming up.
Thanks for your time and don’t forget to share your favorite destinations in the comments below.

Huffington Post:
So I arrived in Uyuni Bolivia to check out the salt flats before I headed north east in Bolivia. In all honesty, the salt flats are not a bucket list item for me but being in Bolivia I had to go check them out. I had been told there were half day tours where you leave at 8 in the morning and come back at 2. Terrific I figured, 6 hours to explore the Salar de Uyuni, that would be plenty. Turns out, there are not half day tours and the salt flats tours in Uyuni come back around 6. Well I had already booked my bus for 630, which I could not cancel so I started looking at ways to get out to the Uyuni salt flat myself.
Full disclaimer, I would suggest doing the tour if you come this far but if you want to do it on your own, and see the salt flats in Bolivia on your own little adventure, that is possible too. I got a bus up the road from Uyuni to a tiny forgotten town called Colcahi, Bolivia. Here, I simply trotted through the town to the point where the dirt road began to become more and more white. Eventually, with the help from a nice Bolivia person who drove me out to the salt hotel, I was walking along the slat flats and I even came up beside some of the tours companies that looked at me confused as to where I had appeared from.
The incredible expanse of the salt flats of the Salar de Uyuni is what I came to see, and viewing jeeps ripping across the horizon at high speeds yet seeming to cover no ground, showed how enormous the salt flats of Bolivia really are.
Coming from other parts of Bolivia to here show an amazing contrast of this country with the dusty, dry towns like Copacabana Bolivia on Lake Titicaca, and here, in Uyuni on the worlds largest salt flat.

After the salt flat here in Uyuni Bolivia, I headed off towards Sucre Bolivia on a night bus and spent a few days there. Make sure to subscribe for more videos regarding travel through Bolivia and after, I will be heading out of Bolivia and on to Chile so stay tuned!

While in space, Neil Armstrong once mistook the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia for a giant glacier. Dotted with volcanic isles and curious wildlife, the otherworldly landscape of a huge salt flat makes for a mesmerizing experience.

BOLIVIAN SALT FLATS - SALAR DE UYUNI | Travel Bugs
Three days of jeep riding & picture taking at Bolivia's salt flats near Uyuni.
We had made such close friends with fellow volunteers of La Senda Verde that we decided to all meet up again for the salt flat tours. While we were separated for the better half of the trip, we certainly made the most of the time we got to spend together. Thanks to Ellen's Heads Up Game we laughed until we cried!
What's the most creative photo you've seen taken at the salt flats?!
Uyuni Salt Flats Tour - Salar Uyuni Bolivia
The Bolivian Salt Flats just outside of Uyuni are world renowned attracting thousands of travellers every year. To cater for the hundreds of tourists there are hundreds of Salar De Uyuni Tour options.
There is the popular and more know route that you can take from Uyuni Bolivia, but there are also a few more options, Including starting in Tupiza. Tupiza to Uyuni tours is popular as you get another day through terrain that you wouldn't get from Uyuni.
There is also the option to go from Chile, all tours vary on price and experience, so its best to do your research to see what suits you. We decided to go from Tupiza to Uyuni as Tupiza is the closest border town to the North of Argentina where we crossed.
The tour lasted four days and crossed some of the most hostile and beautiful landscapes I have ever seen including the famous Laguna Colorada.
After talking to people who do other forms of the tour it sounds like our option was the best, because of the extra day you get from Tupiza. But I'll let you be the judge, here are the full four days from Tupiza to Uyuni Bolivia.
