Gotemba Kogen Resort, Toki no Sumika, Shizuoka Japan
Here is a quick look at a great and little known resort in Shikuoka prefecture, not too far from Tokyo. You could take a day trip to Gotemba from Tokyo, but with a great resort like this one, I really recommend you go for at least a few days.

We really enjoyed staying in the Peter Rabbit Houses, aka the slow house villas. These are small cabins with one large bedroom -- our room had three beds -- and an upstairs loft sleeping area. There is a gigantic stuffed bear heaped in the corner, which kids will be sure to love.

We booked our stay through the website, and got a confirmation mail back in English. Very smooth process.
While we were there, we had a chance to enjoy a wonderful fountain light show in the evenings, not to mention the fact that the roofs of the houses were lit up as well. Add to that, a beautiful view of mount Fuji, and it's a pretty great place for a long weekend getaway, especially with kids.

Gotemba Kogen Resort Hotel is located at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
About 5.5 million light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs create a gorgeous world.
There are light tunnels and colorful and powerful lantern objects with 12 constellation motifs.
The hotel also has a restaurant with Wurst for good beer.
If you are staying, a villa or a lodge is recommended. I stayed at the lodge.

“Light of Versailles” Winter Illumination
Every year, winter illumination including fountains and lights up display were being held at Gotemba Tokino Sumika, Shizuoka Japan. There are fountain shows at night with an entrance fee of 1,000 yen for adults and 200 yen for children. But for the lights up display, it is free. You can see a 450 meter long tunnel of light and different lanterns illuminated. This year’s theme was zodiac signs. Every year, it is open from late October until late March. There are several restaurants and food stalls inside which everyone can enjoy. We ate at Gotemba Kogen Beer Restaurant. Gotemba is very famous for their tasty beers, so this is a must try. Foods are very delicious as well. Every winter, we really enjoy picture taking and dining at this place.

TOKI NO SUMIKA WINTER ILLUMINATION!
Each year at Toki no Sumika – a leisure resort in the Gotemba area of Shizuoka – there is a winter illumination involving fountains, water and lots of lights.
There are shows each day at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30. On Saturdays and Sundays, there is also a show at 9pm.
Toki no Sumika (or Gotemba Kogen Toki no Sumika to give it its full name) is also the site of the Gotemba Kogen Brewery. So a trip to the light-up can be combined with a trip to the brewery for some dark wintry brews.
