The Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association GCNA is working towards becoming HACCP Certified.
HACCP is the acronym for the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, a system applied around the world to ensure food safety.
Chairman of the GCNA board Leo Cato said as part of becoming certified the board is looking at the establishment of a new processing station for nutmeg.
Cato said talks are still ongoing regarding where the station will be located.
The GCNA will be aided by inter-American institute for cooperation on agriculture IICA (E-CA) in order to become H.A.C.C.P certified.

Famed for forests fragrant with cinnamon, allspice, cocoa and nutmeg, Grenada is actually a three-island nation including Carriacou and Petite Martinique in the Grenadine chain of islands. Carriacou is a mecca for scuba divers and snorkelers and on Petite Martinique, many inhabitants build boats or make their livings by fishing.
