If you are wondering what to do in Victoria B.C., then this is the vlog for you. We are going to share with you our top ten things to do in Victoria B.C. Put on your pedometers and fitbits because most of them are in walking distance in downtown Victoria and you will have bragging rights about the number of steps you walk each day. Some of them are a short drive out of town if you have a car. We have shared our best free things to do in Victoria and some of the things that are well worth the money.
#10 Whale Watching Tours with BC Whale Tours
Whale watching in Victoria BC is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is worth the extra money to go out on a whale watching tour. If you are in Victoria and you have the time and money, make sure you go whale watching at least once.
#9 Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown
One of the most interesting things to do in Victoria BC is visit Fan Tam Alley in Chinatown. The Alley is great for photography and shopping. My personal favourite is Kid Sister Ice Cream.
#8 Shopping in Victoria BC, Lower Johnson to Government Street
My favourite place to shop in Victoria BC are the shops on Lower Johnson and then walk along Government Street. There are lots of independently owned businesses with local artisans that you will not find anywhere else.
#7 Victoria Bakery
Victoria BC has no shortage of fabulous bakeries. Our personal favourite is Crust Bakery on Fort Street. I would recommend their cronuts, a cross between a croissant and a donut.
#6 Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo - Running of the Goats, Goat Stampede!
The gate to the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm open’s at 10 am in the summer and everyday at 10:10 am there is the adorable “Running of the Goats,” 30 seconds of sheer joy.
#5 Beacon Hill Park
Beacon Hill Park is over 200 acres of gorgeous parkland in downtown Victoria BC. There are bridges, lakes, ponds, paths, gardens, trees, flowers, running streams, ducks, birds, wildlife, eagles, and blue herons. It is a beautiful place to go for a walk or sit on a park bench.
#4 Goldstream Provincial Park
If you have a car you can take a short drive out of town to Goldstream Provincial Park. The park boasts some beautiful old-growth trees including Douglas firs and Western Red Cedars. Some of them are 600 years old. You can walk the flat trails around the lower part of the park or if you are feeling adventurous take a hike up to the Railway Trestle.
#3 Mount Doug (Mount Douglas Park)
Again if you have a car you can drive out to Saanich and take a drive to the top of Mount Doug from noon to dusk each day. Churchill Drive allows you to drive to the top seven days a week, or if you are feeling fit, you can take any of the trails from the bottom to the summit for spectacular 360 degree views of the city.
#2 Eat at Red Fish Blue Fish
Our favourite restaurant in Victoria BC is Red Fish Blue Fish. Red Fish Blue Fish actually isn’t a restaurant, you have to line up and for a long time at an up-cycled cargo container in the Inner Harbour for your fish and chips or tacones. Then you get to sit on the wooden pier and eat your seafood with a view of the sea planes, sailboats, kayakers and seals in the inner harbour. I will say it again, is worth the line up!
#1 Feed the Seals at Oak Bay Marina
Our number one thing to do in Victoria BC is to feed the seals at Oak Bay Marina. The harbour seals are super fun and entertaining as you throw them frozen fish pieces. You will love capturing their cute faces for your instagram feed. This is always the highlight of our visitors’ stay.

Bastion Square, Victoria BC Canada
Bastion Square is a historic pedestrian mall in Victoria, British Columbia. The square has a ceremonial entry arch at View and Government streets, and the exit on the Wharf Street side opens to a staircase with a view of the Inner Harbour.
Part of the original Fort Victoria, find some of Victoria’s finest restaurants, pubs and cafés (and some of the sunniest patios) in Bastion Square. The area is also part of a bustling outdoor summer market.
The square sits in the heart of downtown overlooking the Inner Harbour and includes several notable late-19th Century landmarks:
•The Court House (designed by architect H.O. Tiedeman) was the first concrete building in Victoria, built in 1889.
•The Law Chambers, designed by F.M. Rattenbury, was built in the late 1800s.
•Burnes House, originally a hotel in 1882 (then a brothel and later a warehouse) was restored in 1967.
•Strousse Warehouse was built in 1885 as a supply centre for gold miners.
•The Board of Trade building was built in 1892 by A.M. Muir.
Be sure to pass through Helmcken Alley for a more sordid look at the square’s past. Once a jailhouse where executions took place and a graveyard for unclaimed bodies of prisoners, it is said to still be haunted since the prison’s demolition in 1885.
Events held at the square include the Bastion Square Public Market, the Holiday Market, and the Art Walk.
Trounce Alley, Victoria BC Canada
A very small but historic & quaint little alley tucked in the heart of downtown Victoria. Full of local shops and some niche restaurants. Named after Victoria Pioneer Thomas Trounce, Trounce Alley contains authentic gaslights that are over 125 years old. Trounce Alley is also home to one-of-a-kind shops and authentic Spanish style tapa bars.
How did Trounce Alley in Victoria get its name?
Thomas Trounce was a gold rush miner and a builder, originally from Cornwall, England. He moved to London as a young man and later with his wife Jane, moved to New Zealand where he worked as a carpenter and joiner. When the California gold rush broke out, they sailed for San Francisco. With all the fires that occurred in San Francisco, Trounce had steady work as a builder. Then, in 1858, news of the Fraser River gold rush reached his ears and Trounce got on a ship bound for Victoria.
He first lived in a tent on Government Street while he worked as a builder. He was able to buy a property not long later. The only issue was that the right of way to his property belonged to the Hudson’s Bay Company and this they sold. What was he to do? Trounce was hardly discouraged, instead he established his own thoroughfare between Government and Broad Streets which became known as Trounce Alley.
A nice alleyway in the heart of downtown Victoria BC. Trounce Alley is quiet with an assortment of shops and a couple of restaurants that offer a mix of privacy and serenity.
This tiny alley house a wonderful Tapas venue. The offerings are shareable, reasonable and varied. paired with a pitcher of their Sangria, it is a great way to done and share an evening with friends. Go a little early because it is always busy.

It is the one year anniversary of this vlog. To celebrate we decided to show you around some of our favourite things to do in the city we live, Victoria B.C. I started the vlog in the Inner Harbour. You will see a busker behind me on the busker stage doing some juggling. There are always lots of artists sharing their talents in Victoria :)
The first thing we did was go to Oak Bay Marina to feed the seals. The end of January on a Tuesday afternoon is a good time to feed them. They are good and ready for some frozen herring then!
We did a little mailtime. Thanks Nicci for your care package for Dressember. The other thing that came was a hard drive. We need a lot of hard drive space to backup our videos. We received a 6 terabyte hard drive. Thank you for your donations, they help us to back up our videos. During mailtime there were a family of otters.
I love going shopping on Lower Johnson street in Victoria and supporting the local shops. I also love Davids Tea. Government street is also a great place to go shopping. We recommend Murchies and Munros on Government Street. Rogers chocolates is great for samples. We love Rocky Mountain chocolate factory for the chocolate apples. We always get them for birthday gift. Today we got one for Trinity’s fifteenth birthday.
Trounce Alley is another great little alley to check out off of Government street. There is a store down that alley that just sells buttons. Instinct art and gifts is where we get our incense. When you come through Trounce Alley, you come to Broad street and I show you The Vitamin Shop and that is where I buy my vitamins.
On Friday morning we went for a hike. My number one reason for moving to the West coast was the hiking. Our tactic for finding a place to hike was to drive past Langford, looked for cars parked on the side of the road and walked into the woods. The ground was so lush in the forest.
Annemarie asked me what my biggest fear was, how I overcame it and how it transformed it. I thought it was a good question. I answer this question in the vlog at around 13 mins.
Saturday morning we went to some of our favourite bakeries in Victoria. This was a unanimous vote when we asked you what you wanted us to do!
I think Crust Bakery is one of the most irresistible bakeries in Victoria B.C.
Next up was Fol Epi. This bakery is stunning!
My favourite bakery is Origins Gluten Free Bakery. This bakery has a wide assortment of gluten free options. I love their pastry.

Also seen here are the famed Empress Hotel, Royal BC Museum, and the British Columbia Legislature (capital building).

James Bay is a high density neighbourhood of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It is the oldest residential neighbourhood on the West coast of North America that is north of San Francisco. James Bay occupies the south side of the Inner Harbour close to downtown. Access to the neighbourhood is along Belleville Street, Government Street, Douglas Street and Dallas Road.
Fisherman's Wharf remains an active marina, and the outer harbour today is further ringed by a heliport, coast guard facilities and cruise ship terminal at Ogden Point. A commercial area is centred on the intersection of Menzies and Simcoe Streets. The Inner Harbour area continues to be dominated by the legislature Buildings and ancillary government offices along Superior Street, but is also the hub of Victoria's tourist industry with the Royal British Columbia Museum and the adjacent Empress Hotel serving as focal points for visitors to the city.

Today I am going to share with you my favourite places to take instagram worthy photos in Victoria B.C.
My favourite place for neutral backdrops and a natural feeling is the beach in front of Ross Bay Cemetery. There is tones of driftwood and lovely neutral stone walls.
Discovery Coffee at 1001 Blanshard St. in Victoria B.C. is a must-stop for your all your photo needs. Within about one block you can get about 5-different neutral walls for your photo backdrops.
Union Pacific Coffee Shop is Victoria’s Heritage coffee shop. No matter where you sit in this coffee shop there is a wonderful, natural backdrop for your photos. The owner, Alan, is super friendly and open to photographers.
The Atrium, 800 Yates Street in Victoria BC is an amazing indoor space to take photos in Victoria B.C. There is a large wood seat for perching and also indoor trees and a Poppies Floral Art. All of these spaces make for an excellent indoor photo space. The lighting can be good on a sunny day.
Finally, last but not least, Fan Tan Alley is perhaps the most photographed place in Victoria BC. Fan Tan Alley is an alley in Victoria, British Columbia's Chinatown. It runs south from Fisgard Avenue to Pandora Avenue in the block between Government Street and Store Street. If Fan Tan Alley is crowded you do not have to stick to this alley, there are lots of alleyways in Chinatown that are perfect for photography. Remember to check out my favourite, Kid Sister Ice cream while you are there.
