Chesterfield, Buxton, Peak District Goyt Valley UK road bike ride
My first visit this year to one of my favourite cycling destinations; the beautiful Goyt Valley. The weather was finally improving and luckily I was able to ride there on a Monday, so although it wasn’t quite deserted it was still very quiet.
The circuit involved plenty of climbing but also some superb descents from its highpoint near the Cat & Fiddle down towards Earl Sterndale. I hope to back there soon.
All music by Arc North. Click here for more details:

Miller's Dale Valley Buxton - Derbyshire
Join Views of Cheshire as we take a trip down to Miller's Dale Valley on the River Wye in Derbyshire.
It is a popular beauty spot in the Peak District of England, much of the area being preserved as a site of Scientific interest.
The most local landmark is the viaduct, first built by the Midland Railway in 1866. Increasing traffic meant that a second viaduct parallel to first was built in 1905, increasing the tracks to four. Miller's Dale railway station was at the junction where passengers from Buxton joined or left the trains between London and Manchester.

Many thanks, Views of Cheshire.

Goyt Valley walk 11: Derbyshire Bridge
Autumn has arrived here in the Goyt Valley, and the leaves are starting to turn from rich greens to glorious golds.
This easy three mile circular walk starts from a small car park at Derbyshire Bridge, which is clearly signposted, about 4 miles west of Buxton, just down from the A537 Buxton to Macclesfield Road.
Passing along the old Buxton to Macclesfield road, it then crosses open moorland to reach the small packhorse bridge which once stood in the heart of the hamlet of Goyt's Bridge, before it vanished under the cold waters of Errwood Reservoir.
This is the eleventh walk in a series, all of which are featured on the companion website at goyt-valley.org.uk. Along with some wonderful old photos of this part of the valley before it was flooded.

Peaks Skyline Recce - 17miles from Buxton, Peak District
Here we are recce-ing part of the Peaks Skyline Race that my friend is doing Sun 6 Aug 2017. We ran from the start in Buxton, up Grinlow to Solomon's Temple, then to CP1 past awesome Panniers Pools which you absolutely MUST stop at and paddle if you have time and it's sunny. Then from CP1 road/path junction we cut across to CP7, the summit of Shuttlinghoe 506m, the steepest climb on the race route at about 18miles in. From there you can see how far away the Roaches are (CP3 to CP5). Then we climbed up picturesque, steep-sided valleys to CP8 at the Cat & Fiddle Pub, but it was closed!!! Argh! No water! Then we ran straight back down the road and track heading east into Buxton, no time for the last peak, Shining Tor (559m) today. Excellent run and well worth the trip! Let me know if you do this route/race and how you got on.

Goyt Valley walk 6: Taxal Edge
An enjoyable six-mile circular walk from Errwood Reservoir in the Peak District , up and along Taxal Edge, with wonderful views across the picturesque Goyt Valley, between Buxton and Whaley Bridge, and returning past Fernilee Reservoir.
Goyt Valley before Errwood Reservoir
This film was taken in 1932, during the construction of Fernilee Reservoir. It shows the most picturesque, southern part of the Goyt Valley, including the hamlet of Goyt's Bridge. Although all the buildings - including Errwood Hall - were destroyed during this time, the area wasn't flooded until Errwood Reservoir was completed in 1968.
The cine film is featured on my website at goyt-valley.org.uk, along with another film taken at the same time of the inauguration ceremony at Fernilee.
Update March 2016: I've created a shortened version of this film set to music. See
