Visit to Lian Lake Trondheim, Norway in Winter
Lian is a recreational area located in the border between Bymarka and Byåsen in Trondheim, Norway. The place was taken into use in 1933, when the Gråkallen Line of the Trondheim Tramway was extended there. It remains the terminus of the only tram line in Trondheim.
With the arrival of the tramway, a restaurant was built after insurance money from the former restaurant at Ugla. In addition, a ski jump was built. The area became the main location for winter sports in the city. The lake at Lian, Lianvannet, was an important swimming place during the summer, and an old cabin was converted into a beach restaurant. It was also possible to rent row boats. A dancing area was also built. Changing rooms were available in the restaurant.[1]
From 1925, during winter, the frozen lake was used for trotting, with up to 6,000 watchers. In 1927, the land owner Graakalbanen offered the trotting association 100 hectare of land for free, but the deal did not go through, but the association did not except the deal since the tramway was not yet built. Instead they established themselves at Leangen. During World War II, the new field was confiscated by the German occupation forces, and again the association was offered free land. The deal only did not strike through thanks to a single, unwilling cabin owner

Gråkallbanen- Most northerly tram system- Trondheim, Norway. Minutt for minutt!
NEW VERSION HERE!!
Recorded 15/04/2017
The Gråkallbanen is the most northly tram system in the world. It runs on metre gauge track from St Olavs gate in Trondheim, to Lian, on the outskirts of the city. Although it starts off with street running, it quickly moves on to an extremely charming reserved way, running through suburbs and woods. If you ever visit Trondheim and have a spare hour, it is possible to travel the length of the line and back on a single ticket (easily purchased through the convenient AtB app). Trams are every 15mins in the week, but can run at reduced frequencies at the weekends and holidays.

Trondheim Sporvei 75 year anniversary 1976
In december 1976 the 75 year anniversary with trams in Trondheim was celebrated. The video shows Trondheim Sporvei vintage car no 12 built in 1903. This was the first type of cars entering service in Trondheim. As you can see, the drivers place was quite open, with no walls or windows to protect him from the snowy weather! The first clip shows the car passing through the Olav Tryggvasons gate. The next clip shows the car passing through the Elgeseter gate with the famous Nidarosdomen church in the background. The last clip shows the car running into the depot at Dalsenget. As you can see, the car was numbered 1 prior to the 50 year anniversary in 1951. But it is still the car no 12!
