Mr Parkinson, builder of a factory for the government, opens a gala to celebrate the completion of the building in record time. Brief shots of people at a fairground, and going on caged swing rides. Gracie Fields arrives, sitting in the open back seat of a car, and waves to the huge crowds. She makes her way to a platform and leads the crowd in a rendition of her famous song 'Sing As We Go' (without accompaniment). Gracie then asks the crowd move to let her go around the corner, jokingly threatening to have a fight with anyone who wants one.
