Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, BARBADOS : Travel Vlog
Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary occupies 42 per cent of the Ramsar wetland at Graeme Hall, in Christ Church, Barbados. It is owned by Peter Allard, a Canadian investor and philanthropist.
The Graeme Hall swamp, Worthing, Christ Church was once part of a 373 acre plantation estate partially owned by the Kirton family in the 1600's. Owen Graeme occupied a section of the land at this time and upon his death in 1661, his portion was left to Evan Graeme
On the busy south coast of Barbados is The Sanctuary Café, a wonderful spot for breakfast, lunch or a snack in a most amazing setting!
The Café is located just off the main south coast highway at the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary. On entering the brightly coloured traditional Barbadian chattel house you are immediately greeted by the scent of freshly brewed coffee! Choose from a selection of gourmet coffees, or if it’s a warm day pick a cooling frescante or iced tea.
The menu includes wraps, sandwiches and salads as well as daily specials such shrimp with Basmati rice! All of which look, and are, absolutely delicious!
On making your selection, head out into the Sanctuary garden and stroll along flower-lined pathways to select one of the lovely cabanas where you’ll enjoy the cooling breezes and beautiful views, while the staff prepare your meal or snack.
The garden overlooks the Mangrove swamps which are home to numerous fish and birds. In the winter season migratory birds make their south for the warmth and safety of this area. Head down to the lookup point for a great view across the swamp and to see the fish up close (they’ll appreciate a snack as well!).
Unfortunately the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary is no longer open for full tours, but thanks to the Sanctuary Café you can still enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the special place.
