BELGIUM, EXPLORING the famous GRAFFITI STREET ????, the historic city of GHENT (GENT)
Subscribe here: - Let's visit the famous graffiti alleyway in the historic city of Ghent, in Belgium.
It’s not something you expect to find in Ghent, especially when the rest of the city is so traditional, there’s castles, cathedrals, churches and all the usual stuff in between. What’s certainly not usual is the alleyway linking Hoogpoort and Onderstraat also known as Werregarenstraat.
Belgium, a country in Western Europe, is known for medieval towns, Renaissance architecture and as headquarters of the European Union and NATO. The country has distinctive regions including Dutch-speaking Flanders to the north, French-speaking Wallonia to the south and a German-speaking community to the east. The bilingual capital, Brussels, has ornate guildhalls at Grand-Place and elegant art-nouveau buildings.
Although graffiti is supposedly banned in Ghent there seem to be a few places where the authorities turn a blind eye and this is obviously one of them. Despite it’s central location the graffiti has been allowed to stay, presumably because it’s proving to be such a popular attraction with tourists.

Today after weeks of rain , clouds an ... no sun , like always in Belgium :'( finally a glimpse of sun appeared above our beautiful city Ghent.
I brought my harmonica teacher and friend to jam and make a video. check him out
Just when we thought the day was gonna be lit THE one and only Afrika 'ramsés' came passing by randomly, he's one of the dopest artists I know he knows how to push things like Americans would do.

Ghent, Belgium's Graffiti Alley (with lots of bike art!)
Ghent's Graffiti Alley on Tweebruggenstraat is a car-free art street filled with lots of bike-themed art.
Deep in editing on my Ghent Streetfilms (there will be at least two), but putting out some stuff now that may not make the final cut! So enjoy!

During my recent trip to Belgium, I found this tiny graffiti street in Gent. Street artists can release their inner Picasso and spray or paint the walls. The annoying noise in the background is the sound of my broken bicycle, sorry for that :)
Graffiti Street? | Ghent
We headed to Ghent and made the most of our half day there! We saw the beautiful city, a whole street full of graffiti and went to a bar with over 500 beers on the menu (where they take your shoe!).

“WONDERFUL!”

Graffiti and City Tour with the Wandelbus in Ghent - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
Near our accommodation, the Werregarenstraat branches off from Hoogpoort to the north. The Werregarenstraat is a narrow alley surrounded by high stone walls. Only in the middle, there is a fence, which opens the view to the Hof van Rijhove, a listed house with a mostly original garden from the 15th century.
On the walls of the Werregarenstraat, graffiti painting is allowed. An ideal training ground for young artists.
Due to the changeable weather, we are still undecided about what we should do. Therefore we decide to buy some small things first.
Opposite the St Nicholas' Church, the Metselaarshuis with the figures on the stepped gable catches our eye. It is the guild house of the stonemasons from the 16th century.
Right around the corner is the Veldstraat, a shopping street with department stores. Yet, we are surprised to find only a few people in the pedestrian zone on a Saturday at quarter to ten.
After we have finished running your errands, we walk through various alleys to St. Bavo's Cathedral to visit the Ghent altar. It is in a shielded side chapel. Since an extra entrance fee is required and filming is not allowed, we do not visit it. Only a small view through a crevice we can throw at it.
Frustrated by the weather and the film ban, we decide to get a better overview of the city. We make a round tour with the Wandelbus. The Wandelbus drives on a fixed route with stops every few hundred meters. The bus stops only when someone wants to get on or off the bus. Very exemplary is its electric drive and that the Wandelbus can be used free of charge. As a result, this reduces the individual car traffic of tourists and locals.
The journey first leads south to the Kouter, a large square. On Sundays, it is the venue of the flower market.
Afterward, we drive north, past castle Grafenstein near the Prinzenhof, and further to the Vrijdagmarkt.
We notice that especially in the northwest of Gravensteen Castle there are a lot of restaurants and bars and this area is very touristic.

The 'Grindbakken' or Gravel Pits @ Dok Noord in Ghent (Belgium) are now a meeting place for the young at heart. The old pits are used for expositions, installations, open air concerts organized by local DJ's and as a medium for graffiti. They used to be a transshipment point where gravel was transfered from cargo ships to trucks. Therefore the presence of an old blue crane on this site.
