On the Road in Southern Vermont: Grafton Village Cheese | Connecting Point | Nov. 2, 2016
Cheese making has long been a part of Vermont life. In 1892, the Grafton Cooperative Cheese Company was founded by dairy farmers who would turn their surplus milk into cheese. After fire destroyed the facility in 1912, the Windham Foundation restored the company and the fine art of cheese making continues to this day in Grafton. Connecting Point Producer Dave Fraser visited the company at its Brattleboro facility and shares this story.

A Grafton, Vermont House Restoration
The 1867 H.N. Bixby House, set in a prime quiet location in the heart of the village, began a loving, custom renovation in 2010 that would span the next year and create incredible changes. Every inch of the house was restored with state of the art systems and high-end finishes, all in keeping with the period of this vintage dwelling. The result is a quintessential home with sunny rooms that flow into one another with 9 foot ceilings. Sillites adorn every window of the property and turn on with a flick of a switch. Attention to detail can be found with vintage lighting, period fixtures, marble bathroom vanities, gorgeous custom glass shower, and granite countertops. Take in the beautiful vistas of the village, just steps to all its amenities: The Grafton Village Cheese Shop, recreation center, The Grafton Inn, Phelps Barn Pub, art galleries, The Grafton General store, and sweet little library. A truly unique find in a unique village. No wonder USA Today donned it as one of the Most Beautiful Places to Live.

Barber's Cheddar | Meet the Ranchers | Whole Foods Market
Made by the longest operating Cheddar producers in the world, Barber's 1833 Cheddar has quite a history. The Barber family has been farming and making cheddar just outside the village of Cheddar, England since 1833 — that's before half of the US states were formed.
Available in all of our stores, Barber's 1833 Cheddar was made from one of the unique culture blends specifically selected by Whole Foods Market's team of cheese mongers. Aged for a minimum of 20 months in wooden boxes to ensure the Cheddar keeps a firm, closed structure, this is a high-intensity Cheddar that retains a smooth, creamy texture with nut and fruit flavors.
