EXPLORING GRAIN COASTAL DEFENCES KENT | PART 3 OF 3 | GRAIN FORT TUNNELS
In the 3rd and final part of a 3 part series, I met up with the lads from Beyond The Point TV to go and explore the many coastal defences in Grain, Kent.
In part 1 we explored Grain Tower out in the River Medway whilst the tide was out and I had a Canadian Ration Pack.
In part 2 we explored the Dummy Battery, a small ruinous gun battery on the mainland at Grain, overlooking the tower and Isle of Sheppey.
In this part, we saved the best til last and went in search of the remains of the huge Grain Fort nearby in the coastal park. We found the entrances to the last 2 remaining sets of underground tunnels and explored them both in great detail. What we found down there was truly amazing!

WILD CAMPING ON GRAIN TOWER SEA FORT | KENT
I joined Andy from Kent Survival for this special wild camp in Kent, spending a night on top of Grain Tower out in the River Medway!
We crossed the causeway at low tide and climbed up onto the historic tower, before exploring the whole structure which has both Napoleonic and World War II sections, all in brilliant condition.
We set up camp on top of the gun emplacement atop the martello tower section and had a fire, cooked food and drank copious amounts of alcohol!

Garrison Point Fort
Garrison Point Fort is a former artillery fort situated at the end of the Garrison Point peninsula at Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. Built in the 1860s in response to concerns about a possible French invasion, it was the last in a series of artillery batteries that had existed on the site since the mid-16th century. The fort's position enabled it to guard the strategic point where the River Medway meets the Thames. It is a rare example of a two-tiered casemated fort – one of only two of that era in the country – with a design that is otherwise similar to that of several of the other forts along the lower Thames. It remained operational until 1956 and is now used by the Sheerness Docks as a port installation.

Grain Tower
Grain Tower is a mid-19th-century gun tower situated offshore just east of Grain, Kent, standing in the mouth of the River Medway. It was built along the same lines as the Martello towers that were constructed along the British and Irish coastlines in the early 19th century and is the last-built example of a gun tower of this type. It owed its existence to the need to protect the important dockyards at Sheerness and Chatham from a perceived French naval threat during a period of tension in the 1850s.

Grain Tower Sea Fort
A mid 19th century gun tower down in Kent on the River Medway.
Rapid improvements to technology during that time meant that the tower was pretty much obsolete as soon as it had been built.
It was used in the first and second world war after it had modified to support new guns.
Decommissioned in 1956 and now belongs to a private owner who I think should turn it into a really cool hermit house regardless of the cost!
We had to wait until the tide went out so we did some research and turned up a bit earlier to have a look at the beach which was covered in shells and crabs :/

ENGLAND, EXPLORING a NAPOLEONIC era defensive FORT (MARTELLO TOWER) ???? in ALDEBURGH
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit one of the remaining Martello Towers in England, this one is at the beautiful village of Aldeburgh. Between 1804 and 1812 the British authorities built a chain of towers based on the original Mortella tower to defend the south and east coast of England, Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey to guard against possible invasion from France, then under the rule of the Emperor Napoleon. A total of 103 Martello towers were built in England, set at regular intervals along the coast from Seaford, Sussex, to Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The northern-most tower at Aldeburgh is of quatrefoil design, i.e. four in one.
England, birthplace of Shakespeare and The Beatles, is a country in the British Isles bordering Scotland and Wales. The capital, London, on the River Thames, is home of Parliament, Big Ben and the 11th-century Tower of London. It's also a multicultural, modern hub for the arts and business. Other large cities are Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol and the university centres of Oxford and Cambridge.

Grain LNG - Case study - Full version
The UK's indigenous gas supplies are declining, and yet the UK is the second largest gas consumer in Europe and one of the fastest growing markets for gas imports. As such, the need for adequate infrastructure to support the import and storage of LNG in the UK is an important topic. A best practice example of industry working to pro-actively tackle potential issues is when Trelleborg Marine Systems supplied several docking, mooring and fendering products for the upgrade of jetty ten and the construction of a new jetty at the National Grid LNG terminal on the Isle of Grain, Great Britain.

Grain Fort - Kent
Some Info:
Grain Tower is a mid-19th-century gun tower situated offshore just east of Grain, Kent, standing in the mouth of the River Medway. It was built along the same lines as the Martello towers that were constructed along the British and Irish coastlines in the early 19th century and is the last-built example of a gun tower of this type. It owed its existence to the need to protect the important dockyards at Sheerness and Chatham from a perceived French naval threat during a period of tension in the 1850s.
Rapid improvements to artillery technology in the mid-19th century meant that the tower was effectively obsolete as soon as it had been completed. A proposal to turn it into a casemated fort was dropped for being too expensive. By the end of the 19th century the tower had gained a new significance as a defence against raids by fast torpedo boats. It was used in both the First and Second World Wars, when its fabric was substantially altered to support new quick-firing guns. It was decommissioned in 1956 and remains derelict today. The tower has been privately owned since 2005 and was reportedly sold to a new owner in 2014 for £400,000.
The point of interest I did in this video was a bit rubbish and I cut off a few details of the fort. Next time I will do some of the in-built quick shots for a better result. Like and I will go back and explore the fort with my DJI Spark and DJI Osmo Mobile 2
