$500 million milestone for QIC Grand Central redevelopment
QIC announced today the commencement of Grand Central's much anticipated $500 million redevelopment, which will transform the city centre into a retail, entertainment and lifestyle destination.
Managing Director of QIC Global Real Estate, Steven Leigh said QIC was pleased construction had commenced, which will introduce new discount department stores, new supermarkets, and approximately 160 speciality retailers.
The development will incorporate an exceptional fashion offer, new fresh food percent and a new alfresco dining destination that will include restaurants, cafes and street food.
The redevelopment of Grand Central, including a new two-level retail galleria linking to the former Gardentown Shopping Centre, will maximise the prime location of the Centre at the heart of a vibrant, diverse and bourgeoning regional area, Mr Leigh said.
Once complete, the development will double the size of Grand Central, to a total of approximately 90,000 square metres.
The development will deliver an additional 2,000 car parks, bringing the total number of spaces at the Centre to approximately 4000. It will also attract further investment dollars to the region and generate local employment opportunities, with an estimated 1,500 jobs during the construction phase and around 1,000 local retail jobs upon completion.
Construction of the Grand Centre development is anticipated to be completed by early 2017.

Flash flooding along West Creek and Dent Street Toowoomba. The footbridge in the video was washed away about half an hour later and cars were being washed down the street. Lea, unbelievably, won the prize of a ten minute shopping spree at Grand Central (Toowoomba) a few years ago. She received the news as we were in the airport on our way to the (gulp) Relworkers Ball in Melbourne...

Chadstone (Vic) has a mall which was similar in layout. Having devised the plan, we put it through its paces and conducted a video review. Stu ran video and timing, and a number of other folks contributed to the plan.
With precision, flashcards and the benefit of competition RW training, Lea ran her heart out, snagging $10,000 worth of kit in well under the ten minutes. Comprehensively outran the judges, centre staff and the local DJ.
Awesome life experience.
