Kayak Grand River, Painesville, Ohio.
The SWB's, twenty strong, kayaked the beautiful Grand River, paddling through this designated wild and scenic river, near Painesville Ohio. The put-in was a few miles South of I90 exit 218 (Geneva/Painesville) at the Harpersfield Covered bridge. We paddled nine miles downstream in 2 ½ ft. water to the take-out at Hidden Valley just before the Rt. 528 bridge.
After our paddle we went to Ferrante Winery & Restaurant, 5585 State Route 307 for a very enjoyable late lunch.
Wine Country
With 103 wineries throughout the state of Ohio, many of the best grape-growing spots exist right along Lake Erie. In fact, Northeast Ohio boasts more wineries per square mile than in any other region in Ohio. The great lake’s shores are home to the Grand River Valley, a recognized American Viticultural Area (AVA), a designated wine grape-growing region that sets the perfect stage for producing cool climate varietals—Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab Franc, in addition to some ice wines.
Just an hour drive east of Cleveland, Northeast Ohio’s vineyards attract visitors from near and far. From The Lodge at Geneva and Ferrante Winery & Ristorante in Ashtabula County, to Debonne Vineyards and Laurentia Vineyard in Lake County, our wineries offer an opportunity to experience unique, locally-produced wine up close and personal. The shores of Lake Erie present an endless wine trail of lodging, live music and unique events heralding the region—all poised for you to enjoy a glass of your favorite grape variety.

Secondary Benefits of Buffalo District's Harpersfield Dam Project in Geneva, OH
The main goal of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District’s new sea lamprey barrier at the Harpersfield Dam in Geneva, Ohio is limiting the migration of aquatic invasive species. The project has many additional economic, recreational and infrastructure benefits, and will not impact the historic bridge. This project is funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, a multi-agency coalition committed to creating a new standard of care that will leave the Great Lakes better for the next generation.
In short, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is #BuildingStrong and #MovingDirt.
