Grand Union Canal Near Weedon 29.03.2013
A walk along the towpath of the Grand Union Canal between bridge 24 and bridge 25 near Weedon on the 29th March 2013.
The Grand Union Canal stretches from London in the south to Birmingham in the north for 137 miles with 166 locks. It has arms that reach Leicester, Aylesbury, Slough, Wendover and Northampton. The present Grand Union Canal came into being on the 1st January 1929 and was mainly formed by the amalgamation of the Regent's Canal and the Grand Junction Canal.
Starting at the A45 that runs through the village of Weedon Bec, scenes are taken near William Piper Narrowboats yard towards bridge 25. Also to be seen and heard are high speed trains passing on the West Coast Mainline that parallel's the canal for a short distance. (See my uploads for this footage of the West Coast Mainline from the same day).
Filmed in the company of Amy (AHHomeVideos).
139. Cruising south on the Grand Union canal in my narrowboat
No, I have not sold the boat. No, I do not live in a van now.
You might not believe it - but I'm going off cruising. Yes, in my own boat. Before the winter maintenance shutdown begins in November, I've got two months to chug around the canals so I've decided to head south, down the Grand Union towards London.
I won't go anywhere near the centre of the City - or really much towards the outskirts - because it's so busy and just plain grotty down there. Big cities are not my thing. However, I'll head down in that general direction until the end of September and then turn around and come back up again before mooring for winter once more. This is the first of my trip vlogs.

Grand Union Canal Marsworth Locks Part 79
Grand Union Canal D6 Hemel Hempstead
A cruise down the GUC in September. Day 6 sees us go from Cowroast Lock down to Hemel Hempstead and start back on our way to base.
We come across a narrowboat adrift from its moorings, an incredibly tame heron that stays lock side a few feet from people for several minutes, and wind the 58' boat round in a small space before donning the flashing blue light to follow a speeding boat ;-)
Finally see what happens when you get a TENT wrapped around your propeller just as you are entering a lock so can no longer slow your boat down!!!!!!

12. A narrowboat cruise on the Grand Union Canal, to Braunston
I was supposed to be taking the narrowboat to a winter mooring in Warwickshire but for reasons I explain in this video, I didn't. Instead of cancelling the trip though - as I had invited a friend along to show me how to do canalboating properly - we went for a two-day cruise to Braunston. This is the video of that trip.

Narrowboat Timelapse on The Grand Union Canal - Ironbridge to Uxbridge.
It rained. I got wet. Passing through Watford and on to Rickmansworth, past the farm where the film Black Beauty was shot and on through to the deepest lock on the GUC - Denham Deep, finally stopping for the night in Uxbridge.
150. Narrowboat cruise up the Grand Union canal and along the Wendover Arm
Having turned around at Cowroast, my narrowboat journey on the Grand Union canal now continued north but with a diversion down the short length of the restored Wendover Arm. The navigable canal is only about 1.5 miles long so far and I found it quite narrow and shallow but quite scenic. I moored right at the far end where there's a large winding hole.
Then I went back up the Arm and down the Marsworth locks before pausing one lock before the end of the flight.

Narrowboat Timelapse on The Grand Union Canal - Uxbridge to Yeading.
It rained again. I got wet again. A short hop from Uxbridge, through Cowley and the junction with the Slough Arm, through the towns of West Drayton and Hayes then onto the Paddington Arm slipping under Bulls Bridge where once was the heart of the Grand Union canal network. Originally the site of a British Waterways boat yard it's now redeveloped into a supermarket. A short dash past Southall and we're home.
