Grant Burge Wines | Winery | Vineyard, Barossa Valley, South Australia Wine Guide - WBTL
Grant Burge has an impressive resource of 200 ha from which to make top Barossa wines. Nearly all are now prefixed with a vineyard name and are made in the recently reacquired old Krondorf winery. Shiraz is naturally the strongest hand, starting with a sweet-fruited Miamba, progressing to a fuller, richer, oaky but characterful Filsell, and, from the same vineyard, Meschach, a pricey but powerful, super-stylish classic American-oaked Barossa Shiraz from 80-year-old vines that is more than a cut above the rest. Balthasar, a Shiraz Viognier, is made from mostly Eden Valley fruit in a more seductive, velvety style. The Cabernet equivalent to Meschach is Shadrach. a deep, rich and intense red, immersed in heather and blackcurrant and aged in French oak. Some early efforts of both wines lacked balance but this is not true of recent releases. Holy Trinity, composed of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre (40/40/20), mercifully is more modestly priced and is developing into an increasingly complex red; new French oak and an extended maceration on the skins are now employed to good effect. Two whites are oaky and flavoursome, a Summers Chardonnay surpassed by Zerk Sémillon Viognier. Other good whites include Thorn Riesling, Kraft Sauvignon and late-picked Lily Farm Muscat. Barossa Vines is a decent second label for varietal Shiraz, Sémillon and Chardonnay. Good sparkling and fortified wines are also made; the 20-year-old Tawny is particularly powerful, plump and appealing.

Vintage Cellars interview with Craig Stansborough, Grant Burge Wines
Born in Gawler, in the Barossa Valley, Craig grew up with the wine industry around him. He started as a cellar hand with B Seppelt & Son in 1983 and now leads the charge at Grant Burge.
A true to life Barossan, Craig Stansborough's shiraz and cabernet-making philosophy stays equally true to the region's style: big, bold and generous. We're talking the classic flavours of plum and raspberry, dark chocolate and liquorice, with perfectly balanced vanilla oak and the rich tannin structure that makes these wines such a great partner with red meat, such as steak or roast lamb. However, Craig has an impeccable talent for not overdoing the style, either. As the Grant Burge winery has access to some of the Barossa's best fruit, Craig regards the significance of letting the grapes speak for themselves as equal to the importance of crafting wine in the opulent style so many Australian shiraz
drinkers have come to know and love.

2004 Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz
Grant Burge and Andrew Caillard MW share their thoughts on the 2004 Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz.
This is Barossa Shiraz at its best, concentrated, big and bold, and it will cellar for 20 years or more. It should be kept for special occasions and served with rich beef dishes.
Sam Scarpari's WINE PASSION #109 - Grant Burge 08 Filsell Shiraz
Today I'm tasting a classic Barossa Shiraz made by Grant Burge. This would have to one of the most 'complete' wines I've purchased. For $25 it offers plenty of dense fruit, spice and flavour. This Shiraz drinks like something that sells for $40-$50.

GSM Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, Australian Wine - McGuigan Shortlist
Neil McGuigan of McGuigan Wines joins Majestic Wine to taste his Shortlist GSM (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre), a limited production wine available exclusively at Majestic -
2009 Shortlist GSM, Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre. The style that we're trying to make here is the style of the classic Rome style in France. What we try to do with our GSM is really focus on the Grenache part of the Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre. It's very Grenache driven.
It's got beautiful violets, raspberries, some touch of strawberry as well. It's got terrific color, lovely purple hues. You just smell that, all the fruits there. All those three fruits that I just spoke about are all there, and just a touch of oak, just a beautiful whiff of oak.
This is from the Barossa Valley, and normally from the Barossa you get big rich intense wines. By focusing on Grenache what we've able to do is we've been able to get elegance beautiful length and beautiful softness into the wine. It is a terrific drink. It's very soft, very velvety, and very enticing. Terrific with lamb and also be very, very good with Italian, especially pasta, terrific stuff.
