This lovely old detached 17th century traditional Lakeland cottage would be well suited on the cover of any 'chocolate box'. Situated on the eastern (sunny side) of Grasmere, it has breathtaking views over the valley towards Silver How and the Easdale Fells and is only a few minutes' walk from the village within this 'picture postcard' location.

Grasmere is a village and tourist destination in the centre of the English Lake District. Grasmere takes its name from the adjacent lake, and has associations with the Lake Poets. The poet William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere for 14 years, described it as the loveliest spot that man hath ever found.
Before 1974, Grasmere lay within the former county of Westmorland. Today it is part of the county of Cumbria. The village is on the river Rothay which flows into Grasmere (the water body), which lies about 0.5 km to the south. The village is overlooked from the north-west by the rocky hill of Helm Crag, popularly known as The Lion and the Lamb or the Old Lady at the Piano.
A number of popular walks begin in the village of Grasmere , including the ascent of Helm Crag, a longer route up to Fairfield and a moderate 200-metre ascent to Easedale Tarn. The village is also on the route of Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk.
The A591 connects Grasmere to the Vale of Keswick over Dunmail Raise to the north, and Ambleside to the south. In other directions, Grasmere is surrounded by high ground. (As of Christmas 2015, the A591 was washed away on the Keswick side of Dunmail Raise, resulting in a long detour. It was reopened in May 2016.) To the west, a long ridge comes down from High Raise and contains the lesser heights of Blea Rigg and Silver How. To the east, Grasmere is bordered by the western ridge of the Fairfield horseshoe.
Grasmere is served by the Stagecoach 555 bus service connecting towns in and near the Lake District, such as Keswick and Lancaster. In summer it is also served by an open top double-decker 599 service, operated by Stagecoach, which runs between Grasmere and Bowness-on-Windermere.
Grasmere's famous Rushbearing Ceremony, centred on St Oswald's Church, has ancient origins. Grasmere is now home to the winner of the 'Get Started Award 2014' awarded by the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs, the Handmade Chocolate Shop. Today's Grasmere Gingerbread is made to a secret recipe popularised by Sarah Nelson (1815–1904).

Introduction
Original exposed timbers, inglenook fireplaces and authentic latch doors are reminders of this homes heritage fusing seamlessly with the impressive recent additions of the substantial open plan kitchen/dining room extension and versatile room arrangement. There are some delightful individual features in Dingley Dell, including the glass atrium in the kitchen affording much natural light and the pretty mature gardens. Wellow Wood is a picturesque rural hamlet with wonderful scenic walks and countryside offering a peaceful haven yet enjoying walking access to the local amenities of Sherfield English and Wellow and a short drive to the more comprehensive facilities of the market town of Romsey.
Description
Upon entering via the sympathetically constructed oak porch and front door you are immediately immersed in the past with beautifully preserved exposed beams, a stunning fireplace and attractive flagstone flooring in the reception hall/ snug. Refurbished windows showcase the dual aspect and the original period internal door opens into the sitting room, which is also dual aspect, enhanced by the oak flooring and glazed French doors to the gardens. An oak latch door leads to the impressive open plan, country kitchen completed in a ‘shaker style’, and is the central hub of the home, afforded much light from the attractive roof lantern. The kitchen is well equipped with an extensive range of white, eye and base level units with complementary wooden work tops and a pantry cupboard. Space is available for a Range Style oven set within a brick recess providing a focal point with integrated appliances including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge and freezer. There is access to an inner hallway which leads to two bedrooms, a study and a four piece bathroom with separate double shower cubicle.
The staircase to the first floor is accessed via the reception hall and features a rustic rope banister. The landing provides access to two bedrooms with the master bedroom benefiting from a dual aspect and ample space for wardrobes and a king size bed. Both are served by the family bathroom equipped with a panel enclosed bath, low level WC, wash basin and vanity unit.
Outside
Attractive rustic fencing and verdant hedgerow from the front boundary providing an attractive screen from passers by with remote five gate and separate pedestrian gate opening on to the gravelled driveway offering extensive parking fronting the detached single timber garage. A neatly edged raised lawn extends to the left boundary with gated pathway through to a walled seating area which meets the neatly levelled lawn edged by a well stocked flower bed and high fencing all overlooking paddocks and open countryside to the rear.
Location
Dingley Dell enjoys an extremely private and discrete position in a rural location on the fringes of the villages of Wellow and Sherfield English. The immediate scenery is stunning offering picturesque walks, cycle rides and horse riding. Such is the privacy of Wellow Wood hamlet that it remains quite unknown to many locals. Within walking distance are the beautiful Wellow church and village green and the popular Hatchett public house along with the village shop, post office and active village hall. More extensive amenities are available in the nearby market town of Romsey just a few miles away. There is excellent schooling for children of all ages both in the state and private sector.

Unusually this period home is not listed. It is served by oil fired central heating and private drainage installed by the current owners. We understand the two storey roof was completely re-thatched and the single storey re-ridged in 2012. Both roofs were cleaned and patched where necessary in 2016. The property was significantly extended and refurbished in 2012.

A charming historic olde worlde hotel on Broadway? That would be a Broadway melody to savour. New York, alas, has little to offer in this regard.Broadway, Worcestershire, however, is quite another matter. This model Cotswold village, once on the must-see list of every US tourist, has a hotel that used to be one of our most celebrated.The last time I visited the Lygon Arms was towards the end of its heyday in the 1980s when it had been acquired by the Savoy Group. Both the Cotswold stone hotel – and the chocolate-box-pretty village in which it sits – were gorgeous and delightful. And it had everything a colourful, historic hotel should have, including a ghost.With a history dating back to the 1300s, it had – as you might expect – plenty of famous connections. Both King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell stayed here (Cromwell the night of the decisive Civil War Battle of Worcester). King Charles supposedly had a hidden staircase to his room through which female companions were brought for his delight.In the 1960s, the hotel’s scandalous image was burnished when Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor stayed before they became husband and wife (for the first time!).For the past couple of decades, the hotel regularly changed hands and sadly, the Lygon Arms went into a bit of a decline. Its acquisition by the company that owns Cliveden and Chewton Glen has led to a lavish refurbishment and ushered in a glorious new era: the Lygon Arms is back and better than ever.There are 86 rooms in various wings, a wonderful spa and an excellent swimming pool. It also has a very fine restaurant, situated in the large space where Cromwell famously spent the night.The Lygon Arms (lygonarmshotel.co.uk, 01386 852255), you would have to conclude, is a Broadway hit all over again. A picture-perfect spot for a hotel – handily placed for other lovely Cotswolds towns. Tip-top: no effort has been spared in the recent refurbishment, which has updated the rooms yet succeeded in retaining their period charm. The hotel has cleverly aimed at a smart, efficient brasserie style. The menu is appetising and affordable – the root vegetables, sage and red onion cobbler is just £15. Circle of Literary Friends organised a coach trip from Liverpool City to Lake District in Cumbria. A tour of Dove Cottage Museum and Wordsworth Urdu Poetry Performance was held at the Yarwood Centre featuring poets from North West of England together with guest poets from Lahore, Karachi, Chicago & Cairo.
