Grasslands National Park (East Block) // Road Trip 2019
Who says the prairies are boring? Our first experience driving through Saskatchewan was pretty memorable! The skies are alive! Beautiful green wheat fields as far as the eye can see, and come dusk the skies are pink, orange, yellow, purple you name it! It was a memorable drive -- long, straight, flat roads with nobody else around. We drove a good 15 km/h under the speed limit the entire way. No rush!!
Grasslands National Park (East Block) is a tiny park consisting of one campground and one paved road with 5 lookout points. It's small, it's quiet, and it's relaxing. Nothing too overwhelming or exciting here, but memorable none the less. We were hoping to see some bison, but we weren't so lucky.
Maybe we will have better luck in the West Block!!

The Story Of Grasslands National Park
Grasslands National Park is one of the largest areas of undisturbed mixed prairie grassland in Canada and is a destination for visitors from around the world.
The vast landscape commands your attention while the immense sky overwhelms the first time visitor with wonder and contemplation.
In this documentary, we examine how the landscape supported the various cultures of people who inhabited the area and how the dream of creating a National Park was realized.
Grasslands National Park
Located in southwest Saskatchewan, stretching for over 900 square kilometres, Grasslands National Park houses the last untouched piece of the Canadian prairie. Inside its borders you will find many endangered species and a stunningly-beautiful landscape
Grasslands National Park
Grasslands National Park. We went to the West Block of Grasslands. Unfortunately we were not that close enough to see bison but still saw them from far away. I recommend going camping either by an Otentik, tent, trailer, whichever feels comfortable for you. The fresh air, and quiet atmosphere really puts in at peace. I recommend everyone take a break from the city and explore the country.

Hiking Saskatchewan: Grasslands National Park
Hello there! Welcome to Plain Girl Life! My name is Keelan and in this week’s video I decided to take you guys with me as I hiked the 70 Mile Butte Trail in Grasslands National Park!
At first I had made plans to shoot a video close to where I am originally from, however, plans changed and I decided to drive out west towards Grasslands National park! I am soooo happy that I did because I had beautiful weather for hiking and I also managed to catch some good shots for my insta account (pssstt go check it out!). The hike was a nice break from my busy life, I got to see TONS of flowers in bloom as I relaxed and ate a nice afternoon lunch!
Lol any whom, I hope you enjoy my video and subscribe to my channel!
Cheers!

Grasslands National Park - Saskatchewan
This park sits on Canada's border between Saskatchewan and Montana. Two separate blocks, one east and one west, protect the North American mixed grass prairie - one of the most threatened ecosystems in North America. In an attempt to protect the land, and the endangered species that live here, Parks Canada is trying to stitch the landscape together by buying chunks of real estate from willing sellers. They are also using the ranchers that sold their estates back to the Park as rangers. It's a unique treatment but it needs to work. The future of the park hinges on it.

Grasslands National Park (West Block) // Road Trip 2019
Grasslands National Park! A lesser-known, spacious, and altogether incredibly quiet National Park, located just on the border of Saskatchewan and Montana. In this video, we were in the West Block, looking for some bison and some prairie dogs. We saw both!, although the bison were pretty far away. Still counts! We also really loved the colours of the sky, at dawn & at dusk. Land of the living skies -- no kidding! We completed the 70 Mile Butte, and the Eagle Butte hikes, and then headed for the Scenic Ecotour drive.
We would recommend Grasslands National Park who is looking for some relaxing, and quiet camping. There are certainly more adventurous, and exciting hiking trails in other National Parks. But the vast emptiness and the colorful sky are pretty mesmerizing. Watching the sun come up with a cup of coffee was something to remember.

Plains Bison Of Grasslands National Park
Grasslands National Park sits along the United States border in southwestern Saskatchewan, roughly four hundred kilometres south of Saskatoon. The nine hundred square kilometre park is divided in two sections. The east block is filled with all sorts of fun, such as rattlesnakes, lightning sparked grass fires, black widow spiders, quicksand and a campsite. The badlands of the east block are considered the richest deposit of dinosaur fossils in the country. The west block has the same snakes, spiders and fires, plus it has bison - just under four hundred of them. The park is also home to a few endangered species, like the black-footed ferret, eastern yellow-bellied racer, greater short-horned lizard, shape-tailed grouse and the burrowing owl. In terms of Canadian national parks, this one is still in its infancy, as it was only officially proclaimed a national park in 2001 and the bison of the west block are even younger.
The plains bison of Grasslands National Park were introduced to their current digs in May 2006, after spending the winter in a small paddock in order to acclimatize to their new environment. The initial 72 very young bison came from Elk Island National Park in Alberta. For those unfamiliar with Elk Island, the bison there have been the “seed source” for most bison populations in Canada since 1967. What makes the plains bison of Elk Island special is what they’re missing - particularly disease and unwanted cattle and wood bison genes. The healthy herd multiplies quickly and with only a 136 square kilometre habitat, the population must be controlled, and translocating animals to create new herds elsewhere is the best option.
