Takeda Shingen Shrine
Hey everybody! A few days ago, me and some friends went to this shrine in Kofu dedicated to Takeda Shingen. Takeda Shingen was a warlord during the feudal times in Japan and was well known for his military prowess. He was one of the greatest warriors of his time, but he died due to unknown causes as he was about to go into battle. Some say he was assassinated, some that he succumbed to old wounds, and others say he died of pneumonia. Whatever the cause, he is still admired today for his contributions to Japans history.
P.S. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to record videos, so if the quality is not great, I apologize. I'm working on it.
Archaeological dig at Tsutsujigasaki Yakata (Takeda Shrine), Kõfu, Yamanashi, Japan
Archaeological dig at the west kuruwa (bailey) of the former Tsutsujigasaki Yakata (palace) of the Takeda clan in Kõfu, Yamanashi Prefecture Japan.
Originally built in 1519 by Takeda Nobutora - the father of Takeda Shingen, the Tsutsujigasaki Yakata was the home and headquarters for three generations of the Takeda clan - Takeda Nobutora, Takeda Shingen, and Takeda Katsuyori.
The palace fell into ruin following the defeat of the Takeda clan during the late Sengoku era. During the Tokugawa period (1600-1868) it is recorded that virtually nothing remained apart from some of the moats and stone walls.
During the Meiji period castles were ordered to be demolished, this saw the few remaining walls being either buried or the stones carted off to build government roads and the moats being filled in.
A visit by the Emperor Meiji in 1880 inspired the locals of Yamanashi to build a shrine on the site dedicated to the memory of those who had fought on the side of the loyalists in the Boshin war (1868-69).
In 1915 the Emperor Taishõ commissioned the Takeda shrine in honour of the great warlord Takeda Shingen. The shrine was completed in 1919.
Currently the archaeological digs have revealed a part of the western kuruwa (bailey) and its surrounding moat. The site was a very well fortified palace, if not a castle. It consisted of a number of baileys as would be found in a castle of the era, surrounded by wide defensive moats.
A number of walls and entrances are being slowly uncovered and rebuilt following diagrams and drawings of the era based on the archaeological dig. Aerial photography and radar equipment has allowed the outline of the palace site to be distinguished and the placement of original buildings to be determined.
A number of artefacts have been found and are on display in a temporary hut nearby. (I wasn't allowed to film those).
Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan, 甲府市 - Canon 80D - Virtual Trip
Kofu is the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, about an hour and a half west of Tokyo. It is one of the famous cities in the country for its wine, famous even internationally because it has won many awards. The town of Kôfu lies in a deep valley surrounded by the Japanese Alps and the Oku-chichibu mountain range. One of the assets of the city is its proximity to Mount Fuji: the volcano and other peaks are visible from any point cleared or high in the city, which gives it an added cachet!
Kofu is not really a tourist city, in any case few Western tourists stop there. During our visit we mostly saw Chinese tourists, but oddly we never met them outside the hotel. Kofu is actually a good alternative to Mastumoto or other cities to make a stopover between Tokyo and Kyoto.
The story of Kofu is linked to that of the historical figure Takeda Shingen, the famous general of the sixteenth century who worked for the unification of Japan. It is the father of the warrior who founded the city and the whole Takeda clan has ruled over the region since Kofu. The city celebrates its 500th anniversary in 2019. Several monuments in the city pay tribute to this famous family and we find the graves of the family in different places of the city.

I missed my bus!!!
So I went to a Zen Temple here in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. It was a very relaxing place. It is the most famous temple in Yamanashi prefecture. It was established in 1330 by Priest Muso Soseki. Erinji flourished as the main temple of Kai Takeda Clan. Takeda Shingen especially helped developing this temple. Therefore, the grave of Takeda Shingen is located in this temple. This temple was burnt down by Oda Nobunaga 1582. After that Tokugawa Ieyasu took over Kai and restored Erinji. Today, Erinji is still highly respected as the temple of Takeda clan. It has also beautiful Sakura that bloom in early April.
