River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia is the largest casino in the province of British Columbia. The casino is owned by Great Canadian Gaming. There is a total of 396 rooms, including standard rooms and suites and it is situated on the river with a 144-berth marina.
The casino has 10,000 visitors per day on average and generated an annual revenue of $244 million as of August 2006. The casino is served by Bridgeport Station on the Canada Line SkyTrain, located across from the casino. Bus service, operated by TransLink, is provided via bus routes within walking distance of the casino.
The casino is located about five minutes from Vancouver International Airport, on Richmond's Sea Island.
This was my first stay at River Rock Casino Resort Hotel. I spent the weekend here with my wife and we stayed at the west wing. Overall, I had a great stay at River Rock Casino Hotel Resort. The room was a suite with a king size bed, couch, mini bar fridge, mini vault, desk, ironing board, iron, two TVs, a pretty big bathroom, hair dryer, extra pillows, and a Espresso coffee machine. The view was nice because every so often I would see a plane fly overhead. Sound insulation was good too because it wasn't as noisy as expected. It was a 5-8 mins walk to the parking garage and children cannot cut through from the casino. Parents with kids must walk to the hotel on the building outskirt. Hotel lobby was clean and the room was clean as well. Bed was comfy and pillows were plenty. Bed sheets and towels are clean and fresh. There are two elevators on each wing. The speed of the elevator was OK. Check-in and check-out Staff was nice and housekeeping staff was nice too. There are restaurants in the casino, Starbucks in the hotel lobby, gift shop, and a theatre. Other shopping centers are close by and accessible via Canada Line train. The location is very convenient and parking is free.
The concierge went above and beyond with booking a complicated trip a long way into BC, and didn't even accept a tip. The down side, It is not cheap, and I did book the same day as arriving, so maybe you can get cheaper rooms with more notice, but you get what you pay for also, its a fancy hotel indeed. Conference rooms were nice size, only one day was a little cool, but was adjusted promptly. The resort is near an outlet mall and a bigger shopping area in Richmond. The pool area is a big hit with the kids, especially the waterslide.

It's Sunday morning and we are in Downtown Vancouver at the Pan Pacific. We are going to try their Sunday Seafood Brunch Buffet in their restaurant, Oceans 999.
This is one of the more elegant buffets in the city with a great selection of seafood from the pacific northwest. Amazing smoked salmon, crab, and halibut are just some of the items we especially enjoyed.

River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia is the largest casino in the province of British Columbia. The casino is owned by Great Canadian Gaming. The casino has 10,000 visitors per day on average and generated an annual revenue of $244 million as of August 2006.
The casino was built on the site of the former Bridgepoint Market in Richmond. It first opened to the public on June 25, 2004. Several variances were needed from the City of Richmond to allow it to open with service that customers expect. This included a modification of its liquor license and operating license to allow liquor to be consumed in the casino's theatre.
It hosted the British Columbia Poker Championships in November 2005, 2006 and 2007. The premier event of the Johnny Chan Poker Championship was also held in 2007.
The casino is served by Bridgeport Station on the Canada Line SkyTrain, located across from the casino.
Bus service, operated by TransLink, is provided via bus routes within walking distance of the casino.

Vancouver, British Colombia: My Nephew and I took our first trip to Canada and visited the amazing Capilano Suspension Bridge and lunched at the reportedly haunted Old Spaghetti factory in historic Gastown.
The Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown has an antique trolley car inside that is said to be haunted by its conductor. I filmed the interior of the car and this is what I found!

Chinese Fentanyl Gang - $1B Vancouver laundering scheme
Canadian police recently investigated CA$1 billion (US$750 million) worth of luxury property in the metropolitan area of Vancouver and discovered they were linked to a powerful Chinese criminal organization behind a global trade in deadly fentanyl, as well as illegal casinos operating in Canada.
“There are so many players we identified in B.C. [British Columbia, Canada’s westernmost province]. But this is all directed from inside China,” a Canadian international policing expert told the Global News in a Nov. 27 expose.
The Canadian police investigation found that the Big Circle Gang (BCG) bought and sold luxury houses in the Vancouver and Richmond City area in order to launder money related to the gang’s production and sales of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Abandoned Fantasy Gardens Richmond British Columbia Canada
Fantasy Gardens was home to a massive plant store in the Art Knapp's chain, owned by Frank Van Hest. Bill Vander Zalm's son Wim owned several other stores in the Art Knapp's chain. Many people visited the store to get a glimpse of its turtle-filled pond. This plant store closed its location at Fantasy Gardens, moving to a vacant nursery one mile west along Alderbridge Way and Minoru Boulevard. The Art Knapp's Nursery stores were founded by Arthur William Knapp, a longtime resident of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
During the 1980s and early 1990s, there was a small-scale amusement park at Fantasy Gardens. The biggest attraction was a miniature railroad that visitors could ride throughout the park and the gardens. When the fair closed down, most of the miniature railroad tracks were ripped up. Before being closed, this miniature railroad was filmed and it appeared in The X-Files episode The Calusari. During this episode, a toddler chases a balloon that is being carried away by a ghost, and he runs on to the track and is hit and killed by the train.
In 1984, the gardens were bought by Bill Vander Zalm, who established the Christian theme of much of the park. Then a provincial MLA, Vander Zalm went on to be Premier of British Columbia. His later sale of the park led to charges of conflict of interest, which in turn led to his resignation in 1991 and the defeat of the Social Creditgovernment.
Vander Zalm sold the property in the early 1990s to Taiwanese businessman Tan Yu for $16 million, who then sold it to local developer firm Townline in 2007 that redeveloped into retail property named The Gardens.
On 7 September 2010, Fantasy Gardens was torn down, but the Dutch Castle, now a community landmark, was saved. The castle is a replica of Coevorden Castle, the ancestral home of Captain George Vancouver in the Netherlands. The castle was donated to the people of Vancouver by the city of Coevorden for Expo '86.
The Castle is not shown in this video as it is covered in advertising for the sale of condo's. Over the years there has been minimal vandalism as you can see most of the statues have been stolen, only 4 of the 12 remain and three of those are broken and the barns shutters have been torn off and either used for fire wood or now adorn peoples cottages.

Best Brunch Buffet in Canada's Wine Region @ Hotel Eldorado, Kelowna BC
Note: this visit took place in the summer of 2018 during all the wild fires. This is not the case at this time (2019) -- and hopefully not this summer :-)
While visiting the Okanagan Valley and the many wineries in that region, we started searching for a buffet. We found an amazing place in Kelowna along the majestic Okanagan Lake serving an amazing buffet that features the fresh produce in the area. While it was a smokey day because of the wild fires in the Okanagan and California, we were still able to make the most of our time there with the delicious foods, the abundant varieties of wines, and, of course, the great people and company.
We found out that this is a very well known, famous Sunday Brunch at the Hotel Eldorado. In fact, year after year this has been voted the Best Brunch in the Okanagan. How good is it? There’s only one way to find out, and I intend to seek out the answer :-)

BC Ferries Tour: Vancouver To Victoria Sailing and Buffet
An amazing trip on the BC Ferries from Vancouver to Victoria. I get to tour the ship and visit their lounges and buffets! The food was amazing and the amenities were outstanding. The only thing better was the scenery and the people on board -- both passengers and staff!
If you get a chance, do make a visit to Victoria/Vancouver on the Ferries. It's quite a unique experience where getting to the destination is as fun as the destination itself.
The cost of the ferry is only about $17 CDN for adults and vehicles are about $50 -$60. The buffet ranges from approx $15 - $25 and is well worth it. Hope you get a chance to enjoy ride and, of course, all that amazing food.

Vancouver Island gets a dose of winter
COMOX VALLEY - BC Hydro says at the peak of today's problems more than 16,000 customers on the mid and north island were without power.
Spokesperson Ted Olynyk says most of those customers were in the Comox Valley and Campbell River areas, which also included Denman, Hornby and Quadra Islands.
Olynyk says there are so many trouble spots to deal with that it's unlikely all of the power will be restored but crews will continue to deal with pocket outages.
The outages were caused by high winds and large snowfalls, which hit the mid-island early this morning. Numerous motor vehicle accidents were also attended to up and down the island.
In Nanaimo, Fire Rescue Captain Brian Mowatt says crews from all the halls began getting paged out at eight this morning and although road conditions were bad, many crashes were caused by drivers travelling on poor all-season or summer tires.
Mowatt says many motorists are still driving with summer conditions in mind even though the roads are slushy with hard pack underneath.
