Great Chalfield Manor & Gardens.
Great Chalfield Manor is an English country house at Great Chalfield, near Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire.
The house is a moated manor house built around 1465–1480 for Thomas Tropenell, a modest member of the landed gentry who made a fortune as a clothier. The independent hall, lit on both sides, is flanked by unusually symmetrical gabled cross wings, with oriel windows and lower gabled porches in the inner corners, in the north-facing former entrance court, for which the richest effects were reserved. Its external symmetry, unusual for its date, is superficial. The intimately connected parish church, largely rebuilt by Tropnell, also faces into the court, which was formerly entered obliquely through a gatehouse in the west wing. Part of a moat survives, but the forecourt has been opened up to the outside in a manner that changes its original inward-facing aspect.
It was altered substantially (with some of the original character lost) after the Neale family commissioned the architect Thomas Larkin Walker, a pupil of Pugin, to carry out a detailed survey of the manor in 1836; though his restoration proposals of 1837 were never carried out, the house was reduced and in particular, the great hall, adapted as a farmhouse, lost its ornate ceiling, with only one of the original bosses surviving.
Externally there is a garden with four tree houses, groups of four clipped yews that have grown together and been hollowed out inside to allow one to walk through. A feature of the church is the unusual bellcote, a stone belfry built on to the gable peak.
The house and garden were purchased by George Fuller MP (of Neston Park) in the early 1900s, and restored and furnished between 1905 and 1911 by his fourth son, Major Robert Fuller, under the guidance of Sir Harold Brakspear. The restoration included a sympathetic garden design by Alfred Parsons. Robert Fuller gave the property to the National Trust in 1943, and it is open to the public. Robert Floyd, grandson of Robert Fuller, and his family live here and manage the property for the Trust. Tours of the house are at fixed times and visitors are escorted by a guide. The historic Tropenell Cartulary is still kept at the house.
The house and grounds have hosted the film industry since the end of the 20th century.
They were used for Wives and Daughters in 1999, the BBC television adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's novel, as Hamley Hall, the country house of a squire. They were later used for location filming of the 2008 film version of the historical novel The Other Boleyn Girl, and some scenes of the 2008 BBC Television adaptation of Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Scenes for the BBC's Tudor-era historical TV serial Wolf Hall were filmed there in 2014. The house is also used as the filming location for Killewarran House in the BBC series of Poldark.

Bradford on Avon is a town and civil parish in west Wiltshire, England. Bradford on Avon canal, historic buildings, shops, pubs and restaurants make it popular with tourists. The history of the town of Bradford on Avon can be traced back to Roman origins. It has several buildings dating from the 17th century, when the town grew due to the thriving English woollen textile industry.
Bradford on Avon lies partly on the Avon Valley, and partly on the hill that marks the Vale's western edge, eight miles southeast of Bath, in the hilly countryside between the Mendip Hills, Salisbury Plain and the Cotswold Hills. The local area around Bath provides the Jurassic limestone (Bath Stone) from which the older buildings are constructed. The River Avon (the Bristol Avon) runs through the town. The town directly borders Trowbridge to the south east. The town of Bradford on Avon includes the suburbs of Bearfield and Woolley; the parish includes the hamlets of Widbrook and Woolley Green.
Bradford on Avon has been the headquarters of Avon Rubber, a large manufacturer of rubber products for the automotive and other industries. Today, it is the headquarters of the Alex Moulton bicycle company. It has several other small scale manufacturing enterprises.
Bradford-on-Avon lies on the A363 Trowbridge to Bath road, which runs through the town from south to north, and crossed over by the B3109 linking Bradford-on-Avon with Melksham and Frome. All other road routes are minor, affording access to local settlements. Bradford-on-Avon railway station lies on what is now the Bristol—Weymouth railway line. It opened in the mid-19th century and was built by the original (pre-grouping) Great Western Railway. Running parallel to the railway through the town is the Kennet and Avon Canal and Bradford Lock.

All Saints Parish Church, Great Chalfield, Wiltshire.
The small Church of England parish church, adjacent to the manor house, is dedicated to All Saints and has a chancel, a nave, a vestry, a south chapel, a bell-cote crowned by a short octagonal spire, and a porch on its west side. Of the original 14th-century church only part of its nave survives, a new chancel having been built about 1480, when the porch and south chapel were added. The present vestry was added to the east of the chapel in 1775. There are traces of wall paintings and of panels depicting the life of St Katherine, which were described in 1760 before being whitewashed over. The vestry screen may date from the late 15th century, and an oak pulpit is late 17th century. The organ case is richly decorated and looks medieval but is modern. The church was designated as Grade I listed in 1962.
The parish registers survive for the following dates: christenings 1545–1991, marriages 1608–1993, burials 1581–1985. Today the church is part of the benefice of Broughton Gifford, Great Chalfield and Holt.
