Smokey Hollow Waterfalls | Great Falls in Waterdown Ontario, Canada
Smokey Hollow Waterfalls
Smokey Hollow Falls – also known as Grindstone, Waterdown or Great Falls. At 10 meters tall, this isn’t the area’s biggest waterfall, but this short and fast-flowing waterfall is surrounded by a great section of the Bruce Trail. There is a viewing platform beside the waterfall.
Once used to power a local sawmill, the falls are now the center of beautifully rehabilitated park land. Hamilton, Ontario. Waterdown Trail to Smokey Hollow is a 10.3 kilometer moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Smokey Hollow Waterfall | Waterdown Ontario Canada - Overview - Hamilton waterfalls
Address: 80 Mill St S, Hamilton, ON L0R 2H0
Province: Ontario
mokey Hollow Falls is in Waterdown where Grindstone Creek flows over the Niagara Escarpment. This waterfall is also known as Great Falls and Grindstone Falls. I have decided to call it Smokey Hollow Falls because other falls are named Great and Grindstone, and Great seems a bit of an exaggeration.
To reach Smokey Hollow Falls exit the 403 at Hwy 6 and head north west. Turn right onto Hwy 5, and then turn right on Mill Street. The park is on the right as you descend the escarpment. There is a viewing platform. If you follow the Bruce Trail down stream you can easily get into the gorge and to the base of the falls.
Grindstone Creek appears to have a lot more water than many of the other waterfall producing creeks in the area.

Great Falls (Waterdown, ON - Easter Sunday, 2016)
The rushing waters of Grindstone Creek wind through the community of Waterdown, Ontario, before toppling over the Niagara Escarpment. This waterfall is known as Great Falls, but is also known as Smokey Hollow Falls and Grindstone Falls. The Smokey Hollow name comes from the amount of mist that rises from the bottom of the falls.
This waterfall appears to have been a site of a mill complex, as there appears to be mill ruins near the top of the falls. It was early in the evening when I shot the video, which meant the sun was beginning to set. This made for some interesting lighting, with both the sunlight and the trees lining the creek being reflected onto the water. While there also appeared to be some trace amounts of snow in the gorge, it looked more spring-like here than at Tew's Falls, as grass was sprouting on the hillside.
This video was shot in late March, 2016, in Waterdown, Ontario.

Niagara Escarpment Grindstone Falls Trail Waterdown Ontario
The location of the Grindstone Creek waterfall (also known as Smokey Hollow Falls or Great Falls) at Waterdown, Ontario, Canada, has been occupied by humans since about 7500 BCE. The Neutral First Nation lived here until the devastating Wendat (Huron)-Iroquois war of 1650. In 1805, Alexander Brown built a sawmill and cabin above the falls. The last mill ceased in 1912; several mill ruins are visible from a platform overlooking the brink of the falls. Entering the Dream, by Bill Douglas, creates a mystical instrumental ambiance.
