Cycling the Great Glen Way in Scotland
Cycling part of the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Fort Augustus at the head of Loch Ness; June 2019.
Unfortunately we didn't get to complete the whole route to Inverness due to very heavy rain and some unexpected medical complications, nevertheless it was still an experience and was an achievement to get to Loch Ness.
I have no footage of the hilly and rough section alongside Loch Lochy in the Clunes and Laggan Forest as the constant torrential rain prevented filming... Also please excuse the shaky and poor quality as it was just hand-held mobile phone footage.

The Great Glen Way Hike | Scotland
The Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness
Walking the Great Glen Way (79 mile hike) from Fort William to Inverness, completed over 6 days involving 3 separate visits to the Scottish Highlands. It was a great walk and I highly recommend it, the only disappointment was the amount of deforestation encountered, seems to be happening all over the highlands, forests being destroyed everywhere.

The Great Glen. Scotland
The Great Glen
••• ???????????????????????????? •••
This geological fault line runs across Scotland from Ft William to Inverness, and has always been a cultural barrier as much as a geological one: northwest of it are the Highlands proper.
••• ⛰ •••
The Glen contains Loch Ness and was always an important transit route. During the Jacobite Rebellion, the final defeat of rebel forces happened at Culloden (at the northwest end of the Glen). Military garrisons were installed at Fort George, Fort William and Fort Augustus, Highland regiments became part of the British Army, and the culture of the Highlands changed forever when the landowners switched to sheep farming.
••• ???? •••
The Great Glen Way runs along the length of the Glen, from Ft William to Inverness. It’s a great way to get a taste of Scotland’s landscape, and will whet your appetite for exploring the wilds!

The Great Glen and Scottish Highlands
The Great Glen (Scottish Gaelic: An Gleann Mòr), also known as Glen Albyn (Gleann Albainn - the Glen of Scotland) or Glen More is a series of glens in Scotland running 100 kilometres from Inverness on the Moray Firth, to Fort William at the head of Loch Linnhe.
The Great Glen Fault
The Great Glen follows a large geological fault known as the Great Glen Fault. It bisects the Scottish Highlands into the Grampian Mountains to the southeast and the Northwest Highlands to the northwest.
The Glen is a natural travelling route in the Highlands of Scotland, which is used by both the Caledonian Canal and A82 road, which link the city of Inverness on the east coast with Fort William on the West. The Invergarry and Fort Augustus Railway was built in 1896 from the southern end of the glen to the southern end of Loch Ness, but was never extended to Inverness. The railway finally closed in 1947.
A recent development has been to open a long-distance route for cyclists and walkers. Called the Great Glen Way it links Fort William to Inverness. Clearly marked along the way, connecting a series of footpaths, forestry tracks, canal paths with the occasional stretch of road The Great Glen Way was officially opened on the 30th of April 2002 by H.R.H. Prince Andrew, Earl of Inverness.
