4K Great Ocean Road ➞ Apollo Bay AUSTRALIA Part 3 オーストラリア
The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243-kilometre (151 mi) stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world's largest war memorial.
The road traverses rainforests, as well as beaches and cliffs composed of limestone and sandstone, which is susceptible to erosion.[4][5] The road travels via Anglesea, Lorne, Apollo Bay, and Port Campbell, the latter being notable for its natural limestone and sandstone rock formations including Loch Ard Gorge, The Grotto, London Arch (formerly London Bridge) and The Twelve Apostles.
The road is an important tourist attraction in the region.

Day 1 - Great Ocean Road | Torquay to Apollo Bay
Today we fly from Brisbane to Melbourne to start 3 days on the Great Ocean Road.
We land in Melbourne and go to pick up a rental car from East Coast Car Rentals. It takes about 1.5 hours from Melbourne to reach the start of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay.
From here we have around 100KM to drive to Apollo Bay with several stops along the way. Technically speaking the Great Ocean Road can be completed in 1 day but we spread it out over 3 so we can take things slow.
In Torquay we make a quick stop at Point Danger before continuing on to Bell's Beach to watch the surfers.
We stop by the Anglesea Golf Course where you can take a kangaroo tour but we are lucky to spot some along the road.
We visit the Split Point Lighthouse in Airey's Inlet and then the Memorial Arch. The Great Ocean Road was actually built by 3,000 returned soldiers from World War I and the entire road is a memorial to the soldiers who lost their lives during the war.
We continue on to Lorne where we have a late lunch at HAH Cafe and stop at Teddy’s lookout on our way out of town.
The section from Lorne to Apollo Bay is supposed to have some of the most beautiful views along the entire drive as it stays right along the coast for nearly 50KM. Every turn just keeps getting better and we pull out at almost all the lookouts along the way.
We make it to our hostel in Apollo Bay and head up to the Mariner's Point look out for the final stop of the day.

Twelve Apostoles and Waterfalls at Great Ocean Road
The spectacular Great Ocean Road winds alongside the wild and windswept Southern Ocean. Home to craggy cliffs, empty beaches and bountiful wildlife, there's an effortless affinity with nature along this iconic road. And with epic surf and unforgettable hikes, you'll find plenty of adventure around every corner.
The Great Ocean Road begins a 90-minute drive from Melbourne's city centre. It spans 400 kilometres (249 miles) from the town of Torquay to Nelson on the South Australian border.
Victoria's dramatic south-west coastline covers an incredible range of scenery. See the world-famous waves at Bells Beach or laze on the sand at Anglesea. Visit the charming old fishing village of Port Fairy and get among the buzzing arts community in Lorne. Of course, you can't miss the 12 Apostles. These craggy limestone stacks rising majestically from the Southern Ocean are a must-see. Join a scenic flight with 12 Apostles Helicopters to see the Bay of Islands, London Bridge or the entire Shipwreck Coast all the way to Australia's oldest lighthouse at Cape Otway.
Beauchamp Falls crashes over a ledge into a large pool just outside Beech Forest, this 20-metre waterfall rewards a somewhat strenuous walk. To get to the falls, take the walking path from the picnic area, located off the Aire Valley Road. The three-kilometre path is an hour's walk return, and requires reasonable fitness. The descent to the falls leads to a viewing platform (there is no access to the falls). The path back is steep and has steps that can be slippery when wet. Take care when walking in damp conditions.

The walk gives you the option to walk around the rock platform and beaches or follow the trail through the Park and along sandy foreshore and boardwalks.

Great Ocean Road, 12 Apostles, Twelve Apostles, Great Otway National Park. Located south west of Melbourne between the cities of Torquay and Allansford is a 243 km stretch of road named the Great Ocean Road. Built by returned soldiers in the depression following the first World War the Great Ocean Road is now listed by the Australian Heritage Trust.
This film is the first part of a 2 part series that explores the natural beauty in the Great Otway National Park. The journey commences on the Great Ocean Road with panoramic views and travel lapse footage. We are whisked into the mountains where we view the spectacular Erskine Falls before running into some of the local wildlife. We travel deeper inland where we view the Mountain Ash trees and the wet sclerophyll forests. These giants can live for 500 years. As we descend through the micro-flora we happen upon one of the Otway Nation Park's rare residents before again heading back to the Great Ocean Road. We end this part of the journey at the Castle Cove lookout viewing the wild Southern Ocean and Bass Strait.
Part 2 of the journey will take us into Port Campbell National Park and the Famous Twelve Apostles.
