13 Hidden Secrets & Best Places in Reykjavik - Travel Guide Iceland
Ultimate 13 hidden secrets, things to do and best places to visit in Reykjavik. My travel guide is loaded with tips for Iceland which I carefully selected. You won't believe number #7 -- Can we make it to 1,000 LIKES? ---
Complete list:
Trust me, Iceland has a lot more to offer besides natural beauty and breathtaking scenery.
The best time to visit Iceland is either in early February to see the Northern Lights or mid-summer for the Icelandic music festivals.
1. Start off at Cafe Loki and try their incredible Icelandic lamp soup, herring sandwich and rye bread ice cream.
2. Hallgrimskirkja, the famous church in Reykjavik, known for its unique architecture and mesmerizing view of the city.
3. Harpa, the unique concert and event venue, known for its futuristic design and enjoys the best acoustics in the world.
4. Kolaportid Flea Market, get yourself a warm Icelandic sweater or other odd Icelandic products.
5. Hakarl, rotten shark which you can purchase at the Flea Market. The most horrid food in the world, the shark is buried in the soil for months and rot in its own juices in order to acquire this strange local delicacy.
6. Seabaron, hidden secret in the Reykjavik harbor where you can try the controversial Whale Steak and world's best lobster soup.
7. Svio, aka Icelandic Sheep's Head. An odd dish that can be ordered at certain local restaurants or at the BSI drive-thru. Creep out your friends by going all out by trying the tongue, nose and eye.
8. Northern Lights, its hit or miss with this event, best time to go is early February.
9. Blue Lagoon, nowadays not a hidden secret anymore, but a spot that cannot be missed. This incredible place is one of the wonders of the world and is world's biggest geothermal spa.
10. Pylsur Hot Dog at Baejarins Beztu Pylsur, the most famous in Reykjavik, you can expect long lines.
BONUS: Vegamot Restaurant, one of the better restaurants in Reykjavik.
11. Reykjavik Nightlife, visit Austur, the best nightclub in town. Make sure to contact my friends at rvkbynight.is and they may be able to hook you up with an exclusive party or message them directly @reykjavikbynight
12. Herring Era Museum, a 4 hour drive north of Reykjavik where you can try the true authentic Icelandic herring.
13. Icelandic Phallological Museum, perhaps the most bizarre museum in Iceland.

Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland in winter
Reykjavík is the world’s northernmost capital, with a population of only 123,000 (approx..), but what it lacks in terms of the populace, it makes up for in culture and excitement. Reykjavík has a vibrant cultural and design scene, with plenty of exciting adventure tours, museums, galleries, shops, bars and clubs for you to explore throughout your stay.
Iceland’s capital city provides a great base from which to experience some of the island’s breathtakingly beautiful natural wonders, such as the famous Blue Lagoon geothermic spa, The Northern Lights or The Golden Circle; where you’ll witness spouting geysers, waterfalls, rift valleys and more. Whatever way you choose to spend your time in Reykjavík, this is one city break that is truly unique.

Girls in ICT at Reykjavik University
Reykjavik University, SKY (The Icelandic Computer Association) and SI (Federation of Icelandic Industries) organised the annual Girls in ICT day at RU recently. Around 400 girls from the East of Iceland and the greater Reykjavik area visited RU and nearly 20 tech companies. The aim is to interest girls in technology studies and jobs within the sector, to introduce them to industry role-models, break down stereotypes and show them the versatility inherent in this field of study.

What I Found in Reykjavik, Iceland!
I’m on a new continent! Join me as I explore Reykjavik before heading off on a weeklong tour of the southern half of Iceland on a National Geographic Journey with G Adventures.
My main focus of this trip is to capture the best photos and video that I can, but I also want to make sure that I set aside plenty of time to take in the absolutely insane amount of beauty that this country has to offer. It’s a genuinely special place unlike anywhere else, and the recent influx of tourism has had both positive and negative effects.
After being in the desert heat for far too long, the cold, cloudy, and rainy weather is pretty much the best thing around. With a total country population of roughly 350,000 people, Reykjavik is Iceland’s most populated city, with 200,00 residents.

Four Days in Reykjavík, Iceland - A Travel Guide
This is a bit of a first for this channel, it's a travel vlog that is in NO WAY theme park related! Last week Mrs Hakes and I went off to spend four days in Reykjavík, Iceland. It's a wonderful city, and we had an incredible time here. Below is a list of places we went / tour companies we used.
To save messing around with a gimbal and camera for the whole time it was entirely shot on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
Everything went extremely smoothly, from the flights to the transfers and the tours - it was perfect! I'll write up a full post about it all in due course, but for now - here's the vlog.

I’m Abi, with Holiday Extras Travel Guides, here in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. And in no particular order, here are our Top 10 Things To Do:
For 900 Krona, you can take the lift to the top of Hallgrimskirkja for unparalelled views over the city. The church has a stark design that’s similar to volcanic basalt columns found in the Icelandic landscape.
Laugavegur is the main high street through Reykjavik. It's where you'll find all of the city's best bars, shops and restaurants. There are also several tour operators and a tourist information office along Laugavegur, so it's a good place to start if you plan on taking tours out of the city.
We think that the Golden Circle is one of the best tours outside of Reykjavik; taking in Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park. The whole thing can be done in a single day and there are cafes and car parks in each stop.
Down by Reykjavik Harbour, the Saga Museum is the place to learn all about Iceland's Viking history. You can even try some authentic armour or go for the faux fur and sword option like me.
Don't forget to take the time to wander around the city; it's not very big and it's worth exploring the downtown area to see sights such as the Sun Voyager and the Harpa Concert Hall.
Also in the downtown area, Tjornin, also known as 'the pond' is great for a picturesque walk in the summer or some ice-skating when it freezes over in the winter.
Iceland's nightlife is legendary and although it may be small, Reykjavik has plenty of places to try. Do bear in mind though, things don't really get started until around 2am.
For something a bit different, you can book a lesson at the Elf School to learn all about Icelandic folkelore. The school is run by the enigmatic Magnus Skarphendinsson, one of the world's leading believers in elves and hidden people. The elves are from 2cm, the smallest elves, a Flower Elf.
Iceland is one of the best countries for seeing the Northern Lights. They're elusive but persistence will pay off. When I eventually saw them, the colours and sheer vibrancy was something I'll never forget.
And finally, what trip to Iceland would be complete without a visit to the Blue Lagoon? This geothermally-heated pool has become Iceland's must-do. Its water reaches up to 38 degrees and its algae, minerals and silica is said to condition and rejuvenate the skin.
So those were our top things to do in Reykjavik. If you have any more suggestions or ideas about the things we may have missed, then please comment below and let us know. Don't forget to subscribe for some more travel content and keep watching for more videos about Iceland.

Reykjavik, Iceland
Recorded September 6, 2008.
Reykjavík is the capital and largest city of Iceland. Its latitude at 64°08' N makes it the world's most northern national capital. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxaflói Bay. With a population of around 120,000 (and over 200,000 in the Greater Reykjavik Area) it is the heart of Iceland's economic and governmental activity. As a highly modernized capital of one of the most developed countries in the world, its inhabitants enjoy a first-class welfare system and city infrastructure. Its location, only slightly south of the Arctic Circle, receives only four hours of daylight on the shortest day in the depth of winter; during the summer the nights are almost as bright as the days.
The video begins as we sail into the Reykjavik harbour on the Sea Princess. After disembarking the ship most of my time was spent outside the city and there was no time to see much of the city itself. So this video is limited to what I could see from the bus window as we drove through the town. We did get to stop briefly at one place in town, Perlan (English: The Pearl). It is 84.3 feet high. Perlan is situated on the hill Öskjuhlíð where there had been hot water storage tanks for decades. In 1991 the tanks were updated and a hemispherical structure placed on top. There is a viewing deck on the fourth floor where you get a nice view of the city. The video concludes as we sail away on the Sea Princess.
