Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem - Bridger Guest House - Bozeman, Montana
Please visit us at BridgerGuestHouse.com to check out photos, blog posts, and to book a stay in our guest house.
The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is a designation given to the 22 million acres of forests, mountains, valleys, high plateaus, and rivers which cover 3 states (Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming) and include 2 national parks (Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park).
There are numerous gateway communities around the parks, with Bozeman, Montana offering the largest amount of services including a university (Montana State University), a major hospital (Bozeman Deaconness), and an international airport (Gallatin Field). Our guesthouse is located in the middle of Bozeman, and downtown is accessible by the city trail system. MSU is a very short distance to the west, and the city-wide free bus system is a few blocks away.
Yellowstone National Park, sitting in the middle of this ecosystem, pulses with life from season to season, like a beating heart. The waters flowing from this high elevation plateau are the headwaters for many large North American River systems, which drain to both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The Snake River, which is the largest tributary of the Columbia River, drains to the Pacific Ocean. The Yellowstone, Madison, Gallatin, Jefferson, and Shoshone Rivers, are all major tributaries of the Missouri, which in turn is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River... All start here, in the high roadless mountains of the ecosystem.
The area may be most well known for two things: the animals, and the geothermals. Most of eastern Idaho, northwestern Wyoming, and southwestern Montana are a hotbed of geothermal activity, which is evident in many of the hot springs in the area.
Come enjoy our pristine wildernesses, and book a stay at our guesthouse, and throw in a trip for good measure. Trips can be tailored to any group's abilities and desires. Just tell us what you are looking for! Examples of trips include hiking (easy to expert), historical ghost town tours and camping, moutaineering and backpacking, flyfishing, hunting, mountain biking, ski touring, snowmobiling, and much more.
Visit BridgerGuestHouse.com to read our blog and book a trip to any of these amazing locations within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem!

From Wikipedia:
Bozeman is a city in and the seat of Gallatin County, Montana, United States. Located in southwest Montana, the 2010 census put Bozeman's population at 37,280 and by 2016 the population rose to 45,250, making it the fourth largest city in Montana. It is the principal city of the Bozeman, MT Micropolitan Statistical Area, consisting of all of Gallatin County with a population of 97,304. It is the largest Micropolitan Statistical Area in Montana and is the third largest of all of Montana's statistical areas.
The city is named after John M. Bozeman who established the Bozeman Trail and was a founder of the town in August 1864. The town became incorporated in April 1883 with a city council form of government and in January 1922 transitioned to its current city manager/city commission form of government. Bozeman was elected an All-America City in 2001 by the National Civic League.
Bozeman is home to Montana State University. The local newspaper is the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, and the city is served by Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.
Geography and Weather
Bozeman is located at an elevation of 4,820 feet or 1,470 meters. The Bridger Mountains are to the north-northeast, the Tobacco Root Mountains to the west-south-west, the Big Belt Mountains and Horseshoe Hills to the northwest, the Hyalite Peaks of the northern Gallatin Range to the south and the Spanish Peaks of the northern Madison Range to the south-southwest. Bozeman is east of the continental divide, and Interstate 90 passes through the city. It is 84 miles (135 km) east of Butte, 125 miles (201 km) west of Billings, and 93 miles (150 km) north of Yellowstone National Park.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.15 square miles (49.60 km2), of which, 19.12 square miles (49.52 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2) is water.
Bozeman experiences a dry continental climate . Bozeman and the surrounding area receives significantly higher rainfall than much of the central and eastern parts of the state, up to 24 inches or 610 millimeters of precipitation annually vs. the 8 to 12 inches (200 to 300 mm) common throughout much of Montana east of the Continental Divide. Combined with fertile soils, plant growth is relatively lush. This undoubtedly contributed to the early nickname Valley of the Flowers and the establishment of MSU as the state's agricultural college. Bozeman has cold, snowy winters and relatively warm summers, though due to elevation, temperature changes from day to night can be significant. The highest temperature ever recorded in Bozeman was 105 °F (40.6 °C) on July 31, 1892. The lowest recorded temperature, −43 °F (−41.7 °C), occurred on February 8, 1936.

Yellowstone National Park,Montana United States
Yellowstone National Park is a national park located primarily in the U.S. state of Wyoming, although it also extends into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872.[4][5] Yellowstone, the first National Park in the U.S. and widely held to be the first national park in the world,[6] is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful Geyser, one of the most popular features in the park.[7] It has many types of ecosystems, but the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.
Native Americans have lived in the Yellowstone region for at least 11,000 years.[8] Aside from visits by mountain men during the early-to-mid-19th century, organized exploration did not begin until the late 1860s. Management of the park originally fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior. However, the U.S. Army was subsequently commissioned to oversee management of Yellowstone for a 30-year period between 1886 and 1916.[9] In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which had been created the previous year. Hundreds of structures have been built and are protected for their architectural and historical significance, and researchers have examined more than 1,000 archaeological sites.
Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 km2),[1] comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges.[7] Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. The caldera is considered an active volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years.[10] Half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism.[11] Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. The park is the centerpiece of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest remaining nearly-intact ecosystem in the Earth's northern temperate zone.[12]
Hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles have been documented, including several that are either endangered or threatened.[7] The vast forests and grasslands also include unique species of plants. Yellowstone Park is the largest and most famous megafauna location in the Continental United States. Grizzly bears, wolves, and free-ranging herds of bison and elk live in the park. The Yellowstone Park bison herd is the oldest and largest public bison herd in the United States. Forest fires occur in the park each year; in the large forest fires of 1988, nearly one third of the park was burnt. Yellowstone has numerous recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, boating, fishing and sightseeing. Paved roads provide close access to the major geothermal areas as well as some of the lakes and waterfalls. During the winter, visitors often access the park by way of guided tours that use either snow coaches or snowmobiles.

The Bozeman Trail: A Rush to Montana's Gold
The Bozeman Trail was an offshoot of the Oregon Trail, a shortcut to the newly discovered gold fields of Montana Territory. Cutting through the heart of Indian country. It became a flash point for a clash of cultures that would explode into warfare, destruction and tragedy. First telecast March, 2019.
City Walks: Bozeman Montana treadmill walking tour - South Side
I lived in Bozeman for several years while getting my masters. It's a beautiful little community that has exploded over the last 15 years. Located in the Gallatin Valley, Bozeman has great trails, a university, and lots of restaurants and breweries. Outdoor recreation is its primary draw as well as housing prices much lower than on the coasts. I start this video on Pete's Hill, go through downtown, past the Emerson Center, through the south side neighborhood, and up to Montana State University

About Me: Last year, I fell in love with skiing and picked up a part-time seasonal job at a Montana Ski Resort for the Winter 2016/2017 season. Prior to moving to Montana, I lived in NYC for five years and worked at a large advertising and marketing agency. Originally from Florida, living near the Rocky Mountains has been an incredible opportunity. Throughout the winter, I'll be documenting my experience working at a ski resort and also as a freelance marketing consultant. Thanks for following along! PS - I learned how to ski a year ago at 28 years old. :)

Living just north of the Park, we have spent a lot of time in that area but we also love the west entrance of West Yellowstone Montana. Here are 10 of our favorite things about this wonderful Montana town.
Bonus tip: The Slippery Otter pub is a great place to grab a beer.
