BELIZE - GREEN IGUANA CONSERVATION PROJECT - SAN IGNACIO - (Full HD)
The Green Iguana Conservation Project is a continuous effort that aims to conserve and look after the endangered Green Iguana species in Belize.
The Project uses interactive exhibits and programs to help educate visitors and create awareness among the general public. Here, visitors are given the opportunity mingle with these wonderful reptiles and also, learn the about the incubation, hatching, rearing, and releasing process.
The Green Iguana Conservation Project was created in 1996 due to the decreasing survival rate of Green Iguanas in Belize caused by overhunting. Decsion to embark in a program that would protect the species and educate individuals about these amazing reptiles.
This effort, in collaboration with Belizean primary and secondary schools, Galen University, and foreign affiliates, commenced the initiative to foster and protect the Green Iguana species in Belize.
The Project is entirely self-sustained and relies on contributions and donations of interested patrons and visitors. The program offers a great field of research and education to the people of Belize and around the world by allowing individuals to interact with the Green Iguanas.
The Green Iguana Conservation Project follows a continuous, cyclical course of rearing the Iguanas from the egg to juvenile stage. It later sets them free by releasing them into their natural habitat. Much of the program’s success relies on the Green Iguana Adoption Program; this program allows guests adopt an Iguana prior their release and contribute to the survival of these wonderful species.
During the past 17 years, the Green Iguana Conservation Project has become one of the most endearing adventures in San Ignacio. The Project, located on-site, has been ranked as the Number 1 Activity in San Ignacio.

Covered in young iguanas at the Iguana Project, San Ignacio Belize
The San Ignacio Resort has started a conservation project in Belize to help the endangered green iguana. They breed iguanas in captivity then release them in the wild once they are past their most vulnerable age. I love iguanas so this was an amazing experience (despite my shrieks)

Iguana Conservation Project
The Rhinoceros Iguana is a prehistoric reptile once common throughout the Dominican Republic. Poaching, habitat loss, and the introduction of non-native species have greatly limited their populations throughout the country.
Our foundation initiated the Iguana Conservation Project with the goal of increasing the population of Rhinoceros Iguana in the Punta Cana region through the protection of existing populations and reintroduction of captive-bred iguanas in the Punta Cana area.

Where can animals live like animals, what is human role for nature? One of the things that make you worry a bit, I visited a hotel in San Ignacio with such a fun space. The main purpose of this project is to protect the green iguana, which is almost endangered by irresponsible capture. People actually eat the green iguanas as 'bamboo chicken' or 'wood chicken'. The voluntary campaign made by the Belize youths to correct the misperception that the green iguanas are good for the body is the Green Iguana Project. Feel free to feel comfortable with any iguana The first encounter is a little awkward. It takes some time for each other to adapt. Iguana, who is hurt, sick, or lost in the hands of a man, loses his wildness. It's an amazing project. It is an effort to give back something and return it to the nature that we have taken so much in the meantime. A deformed iguana with a bone disease. I am under constant medical treatment and recovering. This guy's name is 'right?' It's been less than an hour since I've been around. I would like to adopt one. Oh, finally, the iguanas encountered in nature should not be swallowed up like here. Let's keep in mind.

Gomez the Iguana (San Ignacio Belize)
This is the alpha male at the Iguana Project in San Ignacio Belize. His name is Gomez. His bottom jaw is a little busted up as the result of a scrap he had with one of his fellow male iguanas during mating season but he still came out the victor
