Jazz on the Streets of Uzes Frances
Carol sings - Uzès
Come on a virtual holiday with me to Uzès in Southern France! Uzès is an amazing ancient market and cathedral town. The name is pronounced “ee-oo-zess and the town has existed for over 15 centuries. It was the first Duchy of France.
Music for the video is a song that I composed titled 'Uzès'. The tune and lyrics are my own composition and I have accompanied myself singing with my Fairclough mountain acoustic guitar.
Enjoy the virtual holiday - and visit Uzès yourself if you can. It is a truly amazing town.
Smiles, Carol

Hidden Camera: Forcalquier (France) Market
Forcalquier, France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence département) has the largest market in the entire region. It took me nearly three hours to see just part of it, and it runs every Monday morning. Forcalquier is known as the city of four queens and has ancient and Medieval vestiges. It's a charming place with most conveniences and the beauty of a mountainous, Mediterranean area of Southeastern France including lots of blue skies and hot/warm weather. This was in September, past high tourist season, but the Summer harvests were being undertaken and the fare was superb.
I always hesitate to video in markets as people really don't want the invasion of privacy, usually. I put the camera low and went looking for cheese and meat. I ended up buying a Banon, a goat cheese wrapped in leaves, and two of the best beef entrecôtes I'd ever had (prime rib in the USA), among many other things. Forcalquier seemed to have at least a small market by their Hôtel de Ville (city hall) daily, each with a different theme or specialty, such as all organic, etc.
In this market, I saw artisanal works, artwork, tools, clothing, supplies, every type of food and drink, and THOUSANDS of people. Among the best of my purchases were some grapes called framboisé which were incredibly sweet and delicate. Take at least one sturdy bag or rucksack with you to the market, and a protected cooler bag you can fold and reuse is also a good idea for highly perishable items.

THURSDAY MARKET.wmv
Typical french market in the heart of old town...L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. What a great way to spend the morning. A curiosity at every corner-folklore, tradition, the colors of provence, the sharp smell of the sea, the earthy smell of the farm, people gathering and departing from all directions. The world is a very strange place and the market reminds us that technology can never replace that which the heart longs for...community.
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is a fine example of a charming rural French village with a special character of its own. Definitely worth visiting, the village is located about 12 miles or 20 kilometers south of Avignon in the heart of Provence.
Subscribe now:
It’s a good destination any time, but extra special on a Wednesday morning with the outdoor food and flea market going strong, as we’ll show you coming up soon in the program.
Provence in the south of France is famous for its outdoor markets and you'll find the market at Saint-Rémy is one of the best.
But just simply walking the pedestrian lanes of this small town any day of the week is probably the most interesting thing you could do here and we are going to show you all the places to see.
The village center is small enough that you can just walk any place you like, it doesn't take long, and you won't get lost, but this map route gives you some idea of a sequence of lanes you can easily walk through the little town. That would only take you about one hour altogether to cover the entire village, but of course you’ll want to linger, do some shopping, take some pictures and look around.
Our tour was conducted by Provence Reservations.

Every building has its own private garden framed by old stones (1.800 m²). The whole property is 8.000 m². The private swimming pool (12 x 4 m) is located outside the private gardens and it is common to the tower and the 'mas'.
The two villas are surrounded by a charming friendly garden. Swimming, reading, playing badminton, cooking with fresh products of bustling local market badminton playing... Both houses are ideal for a group of friends or family. Both properties have a common swimming pool with splendid sunbathing spots.
If you love fruit trees and organic farming, this is the place for you. Property has olive trees, prune trees, cherries, peaches and mirabelles. The local countryside boasts ancient vineyards and olives trees...Take part in olive tasting at special olive oil producers.

If you want some cultural activities, go to Arles, with impressive Roman arena and theatre. Avignon with the Pope's castle, and Nîmes with its Roman ruins are only at half an hour away by car.

10,000 Egg Omelet Served at Belgium Festival
(15 Aug 2017) Defying an egg crisis that has shaken consumers in recent weeks, hundreds of people gathered in the Belgian town of Malmedy for the annual Giant Omelet event on Tuesday.
The event comes as European Union members, Hong Kong, and Switzerland have reported receiving contaminated eggs in a growing food scandal.
But cooks and volunteers in Malmedy seemed unfazed: they broke nearly 10,000 eggs that they threw on an oversize pan together with oil, bacon and green onions before distributing the omelet to the public.
We're sure that our eggs are good, they've been thoroughly checked. The supplier that provides them is very serious, said Benedicte Mathy, President and Co-founder of Malmedy's Giant Omelet Event.
This is the 22nd edition of the event hosted by the World Brotherhood of the Knights of the Giant Omelet of Malmedy, a not-for-profit organization.
Several producers in the Netherlands and Belgium are under investigation after eggs there were found to have been treated with a product containing pesticide Fipronil.
Farms have also been blocked in France and Germany.
