Taiwan - Taitung County - Guanshan Town Encircling Bicycle Path
The Guanshan Town Encircling Bicycle Path was the first path in Taiwan to be built especially for cyclists. It is 12 kilometers long, and is divided into two sections, namely the Water Section and Mountain Section. The starting point at the Water Section encircles the water park, following the clear, shallow Guanshan Canal and Hongshih River. Along the way, one can see wide, extensive water paddies, which take on different appearances during different seasons. Depending on whichever season it happens to be, you can see the recently planted, soft, green rice seedlings, or waves of rice plants being blown by the wind, or rice plants that are full of grain hanging down, or a golden sea of rapeseed flowers. All these scenes allow one to experience the countryside scenery of Guanshan's four different seasons.

Travel in Taiwan (2015, 7/8)
By Rick Charette
Qixingtan is a landscaped area immediately north of Hualien City. The name means “Seven Star Lake,” but this is in fact a lovely arcing bay of crystalline blue-green Pacific waters, invariably made even more photo-friendly by local fishermen busy on their craft close inshore. The bay’s north end is the north terminus of a breezy seaside bike path stretching 21km to Nanbin Park on Hualien City’s south side. There are bike-rental stations near the bay’s north and south ends. Among the many other facilities are the Stone Sculpture Park, Star Watching Plaza, Sunrise Building (Qixingtan’s sunrises are renowned), children’s playground, and seaside botanical garden. At bikeway-side are signboards explaining the seaside ecology, many with English. Another key draw is the terrific camera-perfect view of distant Qingshui Cliff.
Shitiping. The name means “stone steps.” The dramatically terraced volcanic rock and raised-coral formations here form what looks like a staircase rising out to sea. The sea’s great erosive powers are in visually inspiring evidence here – all about are kettle holes and surging tide pools. The teeming marine life draws fishermen, shellfish collectors, and scuba divers. The distinctive ecology also features such oceanside-adapted plants as screw pine, cactus, and morning glory. There isn’t much shade, so bring water; there’s also ice cream, popsicles, and other cooling goodies available at the visitor center.
Starchasers (as in “movie stars”) will be especially thrilled to learn about the existence of Niushan, where legendary director Martin Scorcese, Irish actor Liam Neeson, and other big names recently did shooting for the movie Silence, scheduled for release in 2016. What you’ll find at the end of a steep, narrow, long-grass-brushed road that leads off the here inland-and-upland coastal highway is a long and dramatically fetching arc beach bracketed by mountains that drop into the sea. The only buildings here are right behind the isolated beach – those of the Niushan Huting, a combination restaurant/café/bar/homestay/campground complex (rainbowiscoming.com/huting; Chinese), owned by members of the Amis tribe, Taiwan’s largest, and beside these a couple of tourist-draw thatch-roof structures from the faux village built for Silence (the rest were being torn down the day we visited). “Niushan” means “cow mountain”; to find the side-road entrance, look for the highway-side “Niushan Huting” sign on a totem pole capped with a steer-head sculpture (26.6km mark).

Future Hualien - Mountain Shaped Beach Resort by Bjarke Ingels
Bjarke Ingels Group has unveiled their latest - and certainly greenest - mountainous housing project (for previous examples, see: Mountain Dwelling and 8 House). Although still in progress, Hualien Residences, a beach resort housing complex in Taiwan, will consist of green landscape stripes that resemble mountains themselves. The project, which incorporates walking paths, underground jogging paths, and an observation point, has already been recognized as a finalist in the 2014 MIPIM awards for its use of design to encourage healthy, active lifestyles for the complex's primarily older residents.
From the Architect. TLDC, a prominent land developer based in Taipei, has recently obtained license to turn what used to be an industrial and factory region into a world class beach resort. The site has great potential for spectacular views as it is located prominently against the coast and near the intersection of two river deltas. Taiwan's spine of mountains can be seen to the west while the ocean is to the east; Hualien city is to the north.
For the resort masterplan, a language of green landscape stripes create a mountain terrain of commercial and residential program that echo the natural mountains in distance. The stripes run east-west to frame the best views while also becoming an optimal shading system for Taiwan's hot and humid tropical climate. Low-angle, high-glare morning and evening sun is effortlessly blocked by the stripes while favorable north-south light is allowed into the units. Green roofs further mitigate heat gain and combined with the striping create a low energy masterplan.
Taiwan Cycling Trip | Tour of Hualien by Road Bike + Awesome Bike Path
Welcome to part 3 of our 2018 Taiwan Cycling Trip! After a great ride yesterday through the Taroko Gorge, we decided to spend today cycling around the beautiful city of Hualien (花蓮) with our rented road bikes from GIANT Bicycle Co.
We found a nice bike path along the river which took us to another great bike path along the rocky ocean, which had some pretty stunning views.
We kept riding and unfortunately got stuck in the rain and had to take shelter at a nearby convenience store. We took that opportunity to grab some hot Taiwanese bento lunch boxes and refuel before we continued riding into the mountains towards Liyu Lake.
All in all, a great day of cycling! Hualien is absolutely beautiful with all of the stunning mountain scenery so close.

Taiwan Travel Series - Hualien to CingJing By Car- Day 4
Day 4 of Taiwan Travel Series, in this video, we will travel from HuaLien to Cing Jing by Car.
We book Car from , actually this is the first time we try and heard about it, but since other alternative is fully booked, then we use this one.
*****
Tripool Review:
It is similar to Grab or Uber, so you pin pickup and drop off point, then the price would show up.
We actually surprised that actually this is cheaper compared to other more famous website like klook or kkday. We book around NTD3566 or around 160S$, other would take around 4000-5000NTD.
Tips: you can ask the driver to stop by some tourism spot and offer them extra money. It would be a waste to miss such a beautiful scenery.
*****
We pass by several Tourism Spot like
- Taroko Gorge
There are several attraction and tracking trail here. like Shakadang Trail, Swallow Grotto, Eternal Spring Shrine and Chisingtan Beach (七星潭)
- Hsiang Te Temple
- Bilv Divine Tree
Very old Lunta fir tree that aged more than 3000 years.
with 50m high with a diameter of 3.5m.
- He Huan Shan recreational area (合歡山)
- Hehuanshan Viewing Platform (3158m)
- Wuling Viewing Platform (武嶺) 3275m.
- We stop at several spot to take Picture along the road.
*****
My Opinion and tips:
Actually, when i ask for opinion about this trip with my friend that stay in Taiwan, he suggest me take train back to Taiwan and go do by the west line to reach Cing Jing Farm that would take a whole day, because the road that i took is risky and have land slide possibility.
But in the end i choose road trip because it is faster and you can experience beautiful scenery.
The Driver usually is from Taxi and most cannot speak English, so you my suggestion is that you can ask your hotel to talk to the driver before going that you want to stop at several tourist destination.
*****
Next video we will Review one of the highest rated hotel in CingJing that is Star Villa. I really love the Scenery here, and they like to do Star Gazing Session every night.
After that we will also review Karton King, one of the must try Restaurant in Cing Jing, because the food is very good, and all of the decoration is made of Karton

The Best Cycling In Taiwan | Taroko Gorge With Giant Rental Bikes
Today was my favorite day from our recent trip of cycling in Taiwan. My wife and I will be cycling through the Taroko Gorge. We rented some flat bar road bikes from the Hualien Giant store, and were quickly on our way. Words can't explain how incredibly beautiful the surrounding area of Hualien is and we saw so many stunning sights within the Taroko National park as well. By far one of my favorite days of riding in my entire life and highly recommended if you're planning to do some cycling in Taiwan.
I've been wanting to cycle in the Taroko Gorge ever since I first heard of it from the Taiwan KOM challenge a few years back.. The footage I saw had to be some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen someone ride their bike through.. Today, that dream is finally coming true.
We arrived in Hualien (花蓮), Taiwan last night by train after my wife Thuong arrived in Taipei. We quickly woke up and went to the nearby GIANT Bicycle store to pick up our rental bikes to begin our Taiwan Cycling Trip. In today's ride, we're riding from Hualien to the Taroko Gorge in the Taroko National Park.
There were so many beautiful sights to see and attractions along the way, so this video is a bit longer than normal..
In total, today's ride ended up being about 80km
Strava:
Our bicycle rentals only cost about 1,700 NTD for 4 days, and we later used those for our ride down from Hualien to Taitung. You can pick them up at one store and drop them off at another (highly recommended service)
On today's ride, we visited many of the attractions within the Taroko Gorge, including the Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, and more!
Part of our ride today is also part of the infamous Taiwan KOM challenge route!

Beauty, Pain and Rain from Chenggong to Hualian | Cycling Taiwan
Heading north to Hualian, I am dealing with weakness from a stomach bug. Trying to outrun the coming rains, I try to deal with exhaustion and nonstop hills. But it proved not enough to compete with the weather, and I found myself caught in the rain, the wind, sick and in pain at the end of the day. And I lost ANOTHER flag!!! Sorry George from Performer. ☹

Taiwan rolls out modern tours for the savvy traveler
Last year, a record-breaking 11 million international visitors came to Taiwan. It sounds like good news, but that statistic only tells half the story. More and more of Taiwan''s visitors hail from a wave of do-it-yourself, tech-savvy travelers seeking more value for their money. This means that average tourist spending is going down, and traditional sellers of package tours and hotel rooms are struggling to stay afloat in a saturated market. Many tour operators recognize a need for change in the current milieu. Some are taking brave steps to update what they offer to travelers. Tonight, we bring you on some exciting new tours that may herald a new era in tourism. Our Sunday special report. It’s just past 10 a.m. and Dongmen market in Taipei is buzzing with activity. Today an unusual little group is here, walking among the housewives who are doing their daily shopping.Lin Tsung-han Tour guideThis is an open area, and then, the indoor area. So we’re going to go to the market today. Lin Tsung-han is a chef by profession, but today he is a tour guide for a group of Taiwanese-American travelers. Chen I-ling and her family are back in Taiwan looking for a taste of grandma’s cooking.Voice of Chen I-lingTaiwanese-American touristSo I was born there and then every summer I come back and visit Ah Ma and like hang out and see Ah Gong.Chen LungTaiwanese-American touristAlthough the environment she grew up in was all Western and American food, she has always cherished her memories of Taiwan. She asked us whether we have any of Ah Ma’s old recipes. So we thought, on this trip, let’s put that on the to-do list.Lin Tsung-hanTour guideAt the market they were sampling the food and getting an understanding of the ingredients. They were also interacting with the people at the market. For example, on that stretch of road we passed by earlier, a lot of people were very enthusiastic and offered us fruit to try. Or like the herbal tea vendor. She gave us so many drinks it was crazy. That’s human warmth. That’s the culture of Taiwan, particularly its culture toward international visitors. That’s something many foreigners have told me. They feel that Taiwan and Taiwanese people are very welcoming and friendly. Herbal tea was a refreshing new experience for Chen I-ling. But today is not just about trying new things and getting ingredients. It’s also about cooking. What’s on the menu today is Taiwanese specialties like oyster omelet, braised cabbage and braised pork on rice.Michael WuTravel agency founderWe’re trying to capture the Taiwanese lifestyle and present it to international visitors. We take Taiwan’s culture and way of life and package it in a way that foreigners will understand. This four-hour tour of the market comes at a price tag of US$100 per person. The premium price does not put off visitors. In the past five years alone, 50,000 tourists hailing from 90 countries have taken part in the trips organized by this travel agency. This tour group of 38 members represents six nationalities. They have come to Taiwan for a bicycle trip around the island.William LouHong Kong touristWe have people came here three times. This is our third time. Some are new riders. Good food, good people. We love the country. The bicycle industry is very well developed and all the roads are well constructed for cyclists. And motor vehicles respect cyclists.Taiwan is one of the three biggest bicycle exporters in the world. The country prides itself on the Taiwan Cycle Route No. 1, which circumnavigates the entire main island. There is a wealth of cycling tours offered by bike manufacturers, which supply all the gear and equipment needed for a round-the-island adventure. It’s a new initiative called “bike-packing.” Tourists can take in the views and get up close and personal with local cultures, all on two wheels. Although bike-packing tours aren’t cheap, they have become a hit among foreign visitors. A campaign is underway at the Tourism Bureau to promote these offerings to the world. We are in Yehliu on the north coast of Taiwan. A group of journalists, travel agents and bloggers from Russia are here on invitation from the Tourism Bureau. They’re taking part in some of Taiwan’s newest itineraries. After a visit to the Yehliu geopark, the group goes on a shopping spree, sweeping up souvenirs in the nearby shops. At the end of their 12-day trip, they have only good things to say.Russian travel agentTake the average Russian. Most people don’t really know what Taiwan is. But once we come to Taiwan, we can see that Taiwan is an enchanting and beautiful place.Taiwan. It is home to East Asia’s tallest peak and seas on all four sides. It’s also a melting pot of cultures, including those of the Southern Min, Hakka, the indigenous peoples, and new immigrants. Amid big changes in the needs of tourists, operators are creating new itineraries and getting back to the ba...

Travel in Taiwan (2016, 3-4)
Alishan is renowned for high-quality high-mountain tea, and Bihushan Tourist Tea Garden is a photophile’s dream come true. The entire rounded mountain-head on which it is planted is sculpted with tight rows of Camellia sinensis, as neat as topiary, cut through with boardwalk trails. The sweeping panorama taken in from the trails or viewing platform before the open-front visitor center/restaurant is powerful. The waters of the rough river far below churn this way and that, on their short, impatient journey to the sea. Renowned Mt. Jade and Mt. Hehuan make cameos on clear days far off in the distance, as can a high slope-hugging arcade section of the gravity-defying Alishan Forest Railway. This tea-plantation mountaintop, often shrouded in cloud and mist, is a popular platform for watching Alishan’s celebrated sunrises, sunsets, and “sea of clouds” phenomenon – dense clouds roll into the abyss-like valleys like ocean tides, savored by tourists from eagle-eye vantage points.
The 3.3km Zhukeng Stream Trail has a trailhead at each end on Highway 162A, west of Ruifeng village. Formerly called the “Old Charcoal Way” – early residents used it to take charcoal off the mountain to trade – it passes over 12 bridges, each of different design. There are a number of cataracts, hikers’ grand prize the 120m-high Longgong (“Dragon Palace”) Waterfall, reached via a dead-end side trail about mid-way along the main trail. This is a “hanging valley waterfall,” and as it shoots out into space the waters do indeed seem to hang momentarily in mid-air before making their way to the bottom of the deep gorge here. Behind the lofty natural artwork is Water Curtain Cave, through which the side trail runs.
Next morning, we hit the trails right after breakfast – and stayed on them most of the day. First on our to-do list was the charming, long Green Tunnel, accessed via a short side road that begins right at sleepy Ruili village. You’re immersed in a lush forest of tall bamboo, walking along what is in fact a narrow road, not a trail. Paved and gentle-graded, this spot is also popular with local folk, who come here for their daily constitutionals.
Then we launched ourselves on the challenging, visually thrilling 2km Youth Ridge Trail at the highway-side trailhead in Ruili village, across from Ruili Elementary School. The 1,000-meter-long Haohan (“Hero”) Slope has an average grade of 60 degrees – yes, 60.
The countless bat-roost holes in the Bat Cave were formed over millions of years by river erosion. The deep grooves in the mesmerizingly striated Swallow Cliff are also erosion-etched, the softer sandstone levels wearing away faster than the harder shale.
A few kilometers further west along highway 166 is the entrance to the steep 600-meter Yuntan Waterfall boardwalk path and, just before it, Yuantan Natural Eco Park. The two-tiered cascade is 26.3m high; the terrain features alternating thick sandstone strata sandwiching thin shale layers, twisted in a wild jumble of folds and faults.
[Cycling Taiwan] Ride From Hualien to Taitung Day 1 台灣 自行車 花蓮~台東
In today's Cycling Taiwan vlog, we'll be using our rented road bikes (giant fastroad) to cycle along the Taiwan east coast from Hualien (花蓮) to Tautung (台東).
This ride in total is about 200km and so we split it up into 2 days. In the first half, we decided to cycle down the more coastal and scenic route along highway 11.
We (I) didn't really properly research the route, and it ended up being much hillier and zig-zaggy than I had imagined, making us really feel the extra bike load from our panier bags.
Fortunately, we were able to send our main luggage ahead to Taitung by train at a fee of only 150 NTD, which is really cheap!
After cycling down the coast for a while and passing through a few tunnels, the dreaded rain clouds decided to say hello and the ride started to get a bit more difficult.
To get to our hotel for the night, we had to cut through the mountain pass from highway 11 to highway 9, and after descending down the mountain pass into more rain, we were quite drained of energy, but then came across this BEAUTIFUL park (Danongdafu Forest Park 大農大富平地森林園區). Even in the rain it all looked so beautiful with all of the trees and well maintained bike paths.. I really would love to come back and explore this some day, but unfortunately no time today..
After riding in the rain for what seemed like forever without any stops, we finally found a 7-eleven convenience store and grabbed some warm foods. My fingers were actually numb at this point despite starting the ride in fairly warm conditions.
After fueling up and recovering a bit, we continued on along highway 9 and finally made it to our hotel for the night. Time to hit the bed and wake up and do the second half!

Short trip to YULI in Hualien County (花蓮玉里短暫之旅)
After having fun at Ruisui (see previous video) we went further south to visit a farm where you can learn how to make scones and wheat beer, had lunch at the Yuli Noodles restaurant, and then went bicycling on the Yufu Bikeway. We saw a LOT of rapeseed flower fields. :)

Yuli
From Ruisui it’s a short drive south on Provincial Highway 9 or County Road 193 to Yuli Township. The latter is favored by seasoned cyclists doing round-the-island or just East Rift Valley rides who prefer to take a more scenic and quieter road. It also offers more shade, thanks to the many roadside trees. In addition, the road has numerous vantage points from which you can take in the marvelous scenery of bright green and yellow fields and the majestic views of the central mountains on the opposite side of the valley.
Shortly before reaching the Yuli Bridge, which traverses the Xiuguluan River and connects to Highway 9 and central Yuli, you come to the Dongfeng Leisure Agricultural Area, a multipurpose farm where visitors can try their hand at such fun as making scones and brewing wheat beer using ingredients grown on the farm’s fields. Creating the small-sized scones, made with eggs, butter, and flour from the area, takes about an hour under the staff’s expert tutelage, and making the beer, a crisp, pleasing wheat ale, takes around three.
The farm was started as a rice operation 20 years ago, with pomelos also grown, but today the focus is mostly on wheat, four varieties of rice, two different kinds of beans, and a small fertilizer factory catering to local farmers looking to further enrich the already fertile soil. The factory and the fields can be toured; the wheat fields are a rare sight in subtropical Taiwan.
The East Rift Valley is well known for its fantastic cycling paths, one of the most popular being the Yufu Bikeway. Close to Yuli Railway Station are a number of bike-rental operations which rent bicycles for NT$100/4hrs, and e-bikes for NT$300 for the same amount of time. The roughly 10-kilometer stretch of paved pathway runs from Yuli Railway Station to the old railway station at the village of Dongli, following an abandoned railway line, winding among rice paddies, fields, and irrigation ponds.
About two kilometers into the ride the bikeway crosses the Xiuguluan River and the fault line dividing the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates, traversing a railway bridge that had to be retired because of the slowly shifting land below, the work of primal tectonic forces churning many kilometers underground. Stop at the midpoint of the bridge and place your feet at a clearly marked spot that allows you to, approximately, stand with one foot on the first tectonic plate and the other on the second.
Riding along the bikeway is a great way to take in the land that is eastern Taiwan’s largest rice granary, much of the crop grown here bound for export to Japan. During the seasons of the year the views are markedly different, ranging from seas of golden rice ears to fields of bright-yellow rapeseed.
Along the pathway you will pass the platforms of two old railway stations, at Antong and Dongli, the latter marking the southern end of the bikeway. Adjacent to Dongli’s old platform, a very popular Instagram spot, is a small café where you can stop and relax, have a cup of coffee, and perhaps pick up a small locally-made souvenir before heading back to Yuli.
If you have worked up an appetite on your return to central Yuli, consider dining at the Yuli Noodles restaurant, a popular no-frills eatery serving generous portions of noodles, either dry or in soup, topped with slices of pork, celery, and bean sprouts.
LiYu Lake (鯉魚潭), Puli, Taiwan, 9/13/2018
In Taiwan there are so many lake called Liyu Lake. This one is located in the east of Puli Town, the center place of Taiwan Island.
In Chinese liyu means carp, it is one kind of fish in Taiwan.
Around the lake there is a walk path. The total length of that walk path is about 1.3 kilometers.
This lake was about 46 acres, and was famous for its natural beautiful scenery.
It will spend 10 to 15 minutes driving, if you start from Puli.
Travel Taiwan in Summer - Taipei, Jiufen, Qingchui Cliff, Taroko National Park, Sun Moon Lake
9 Days 9 Spots Road Trip
Taipei, Yehliu, Jiufen, Qingshui Cliff, Hualien City, Taroko National Park, Qingjing Farm, Sun Moon Lake and Taichung City
It was a crazy hot summer in Taiwan for our 7 days trip for the north half of this island. Temperature was around 30-35 in the day time with crazy sunlight. We were in Taipei for 2 days, traveled around popular places like Chieng Kai Chek Memorial hall, Taipei 101 and went up to Xiangshan Trail (we were even been cheated by Taxi driver).
I highly recommend to go a bit further from Taipei to Guandu Temple. It's around 45 minutes from Taipei but really worth the beauty of the temple.
After we left Taipei, we took a road trip and first stop was Yuhliu geopark before going to Jiufen. Suggestion is better to find other places to go because there were too many tourists and you will not get any pictures anyway. Jiufen was also crazy at the time we went, we stucked in the street by human traffic and delivery truck.
From Jiufen, we headed to Taroko National Park. On the way, we stopped by the most stunning view of all in Taiwan till now. Qingshui Cliff, the bright blue color and the landscape was perfect. I hope I can put more drone video than this. The next day we started the Taroko trip in a hurry because rain was catching up. Driving was not too hard since it was not a holiday but not too easy also. Along the way, another stunning landscape slightly showed up bit by bit with the small flowers along the road.
We arrived at the highland area at 3,158m above sea level at Hehuashan Peak. From here to Qingjing farm, it was another impressive landscape of Taiwan that no one should miss. I made a mistake, planed to save some drone battery for later stops but the rain was catching us up too fast.
Qingjing... It was raining for the whole 2 days.... so nothing much. Like nothing much... Qingjing farm is well known for highland with cute sheep and mountain view, we saw non of those, except fog, part of mountain and rain from our room.
Then we left Qingjing and took a quick break at Sun Moon Lake, one of the most popular tourist spot in Taiwan. We did not expect much due to the rain and what we heard about the place but it is still beautiful place anyway. As when the rain stopped, the beauty of nature obviously shined.

Keelung Drone Flight: Keelung (Standard Mandarin Pīnyīn: Jīlóng; Hokkien POJ: Ke-lâng), officially known as Keelung City, is a major port city situated in the northeastern part of Taiwan. It borders New Taipei with which it forms the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, along with Taipei itself. Nicknamed the Rainy Port for its frequent rain and maritime role, the city is Taiwans second largest seaport (after Kaohsiung). // Keelung City is a port city near Taipei, in northern Taiwan. Surrounded by mountains, its known for its sheltered harbor. Near the waterfront, street-food stalls at Miaokou Night Market offer traditional snacks and seafood. Several forts around the area include hilltop Ershawan Fort, with cannons and a Chinese-style gate. Both Gongzi Liao Fort and Dawulun Fort offer views over the harbor and ocean. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, Hoping Island (Peace Island) is known for its unusual cliffs and moonlike rock formations. Views from the island stretch out to the steep green slopes of volcanic Keelung Islet. Back on the mainland, Zhongzheng Park is home to the huge Goddess of Mercy and Maitreya Buddha statues, as well as several shrines and garden paths. Northwest of the center, the mountainous Lovers Lake Park has woodlands, a suspension bridge over the lake and views over the surrounding countryside. [wikipedia // Google]
