Expedition Jacksonville: Community
Stuck at the dock in Jacksonville yesterday, the crew finds themselves anxious to get back to work, but weather stands in their way. The success of the mission is on the line, but it's out of their hands in in Mother Nature's. The hope is by first light the next day they can set sail for the open waters of the West Atlantic.
While hanging around the dock, press gets another chance to ask Dr. Greg Skomal about Mary Lee's movements on the Shark Tracker . He assures the public there's no need to worry as her and many other sharks have been doing this for centuries. Even though Mary Lee came as close as 200 yards off the beach, nothing happened.
The ping heard round the world, or at least in Jacksonville Beach, caused quite a stir in the community as well as the online community. Mary Lee was quickly elevated to rockstar status by having a beer named after her at Jacksonville Beach's first microbrewery, Green Room Brewing. Having heard about the beer Brett, Todd and Juan all made the trip to see it for themselves. Mary Lee's Great White Hoppy has been pretty popular and has all the locals talking about her, and tracking her.
The whole community has been buzzing about her, and the education community is no exception. Teachers are reaching out to learn more and Chris Fischer is more than happy to oblige. Teachers and students getting excited about sharks and the ocean is what fuels Chris' passion and determination to help us all solve the puzzle of the Great White Shark, together.

Bold City Brewery is locally owned and operated by Brian and Susan Miller (no relation to the Miller Brewing Company, although the money would be nice). They are supported by the rest of the Miller family who all have a hand in the operations whether it be marketing, distributing, ordering supplies, cleaning tanks or doing what's most important, brewing beer. Brian started with home brewing in 2002. He was a member of CASK, the local home brewers club here in Jacksonville prior to opening the brewery. His mother, Susan, left her job in management at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida to join the beer biz. She is primarily responsible for managing the on-site Tavern.
The concept of opening a business, any business, can be a scary one, but at some point, you have to allow yourself to dream about what could be and push forward with your aspirations. There has been a lot of long hours and hard work, but we've been blessed with good times and a bundle of fun along the way.

Florida's craft brewers hope the state's ban on half-gallon growlers, or beer jugs, will soon be ove
Florida craft brewers say their top goal in next spring's legislative session is to finally legalize half-gallon growlers.
But they fear that an effort to address several other issues, including distribution laws, might make it tougher to end the ban on the 64-ounce refillable beer jugs.
Half-gallon growlers are the industry standard and legal in 47 states, but Florida only allows beer in containers up to 32 ounces and 128-ounces or more. Anything in between is illegal.
Beer distributors say they will support ending the ban on the growlers. But a fight could ensue if the growler issue is part of a larger bill that changes distribution laws.
