Greenock Cemetery
A look at some of the impressive monuments and headstones within the Greenock cemetery. The cemetery is one of the largest in the UK and contains some incredible grave markings. It contains the graves of some fairly well known historical figures such as Highland Mary (the girlfriend of Robert Burns). It also contains the Watt Cairn in memory of Scottish inventor and Scientist James Watt.

Greenock, Scotland - It's under mud (5)
Windows half under the level of the ground, buildings with one floor under the ground and round the back not the case. In the early to mid 1800's there was a worldwide mud event/flow that cover huge areas under at least 10ft of mud.
Have a look around in your town, these are not an architectural design. If you spot any take a pic or video and post it up.

Shielhill Caves Greenock
Shielhill cave is a natural cave that was modified in the 1930's to make it habitable. The cave was used to provide a place for mainly unemployed people to pass the time. They would help maintain the cave and tend to the grounds as well as relax with friends and family. Today most of the cave has been destroyed and very little remains. In this video, we explore what is left of Shielhill caves.

Inverkip Old Graveyard
A short video showing the small ancient graveyard which was situated on the outskirts of the Village of Inverkip, Scotland,, Where once stood the only church serving the parish of Greenock and surroundiing areas, known as The Alud Kirk.. Now sadly surrounded by modern housing.
The graveyard has many old stones dating back as far as 1720 and unreadable ones which may predate this time.
For such a small and seemingly insignificant graveyard it holds many significant and notable internments. Including the Family of Shaw-Stewart, Baronets of Greenock and Blackhall 1667.
Sir Archibald Stewart 1st Baronet 1635 - 1722 is a direct decendant of Sir John Stewart an illegitimate son of Robert III of Scotland who granted him the nearby estates of Ardgowan in Renfrewshire. The once proud mausoleum which houses the tombstones is now a dank, dirty ruin with its roof gone and crumbling walls slowly being overrun with flaura & fauna.
Another noteable and magnificent gravestone situated on the North face of the Shaw- Stewart Mausoleum is that of the Scottish chemist James Paraffin Young who in 1850 patented a process for extracting oil from cannel coal which was being mined in huge quantities in Linlithgow, Scotland. He lived and died in nearby Wemyss Bay at Kelly House which now no longer exists. He rests alongside his wife Mary.
Finally another magnificent erection celebrates the life of William Steele Brown, a Locomotive Supervisor Brown was instrumental in the type 2-4-0 Locomotive being built at Cowlairs Engine works in Glasgow. He died in 1882 aged 29 years and the monument was erected in the graveyard by Workmen of the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railways and a few friends.
This small and seemingly forgotten graveyard is well worth a visit.

Greenock Blitz Revision
This is a revised version of Greenock Blitz, with further photos and music added. As before it is present day photos, (2014), of areas of Greenock damaged during the raids of the 6th and 7th May 1941 are merged into photos taken in the days following the raids. The damaged area becomes as it is today. In the main, only pictures which show repaired homes or parts recognisable in the original photos are used. In addition to areas destroyed, the building of the new dual carriageway removed most of the original buildings. The rebuilt area bears no resemblance to the original. I hope the video may be of interest.

Lifeline Mission Greenock Scotland
Lifeline Full Gospel Mission.
This is a video of pictures taken at my mum and dad's mission in Scotland.
When I made this video, it brought back a lot of memories.
My mum and dad had also lived in Luton England back in the fifties where they had found a couple of other churches and missions. A couple of them are shown at the beginning of the movie. Then they moved back to Scotland where they continued their ministry.
The video includes my Grandma and Grandad and some of my uncles.
It reminded me, that it's not what we have or accumulate in life, but it's in who we help along the way through life. My mum would organize numerous trips and outings for the seniors, otherwise, they would never go anywhere. My mum would have them save up money during the year, then at the end of the year, they had enough money saved for the trip. My mum would deposit the money into the bank for all the seniors.
All the older people are passed away now, however, during their time at the mission, they made many friends and had great times of fellowship with each other.
The mission helped many seniors and alcoholics, whose lives ultimately, were turned around.
They had various meetings and also hosted a children's night with over 70 children.
My mum and dad operated the mission from 1961 until 1977 when my dad passed away.
They were also pastors of The Prospecthill Mission in Greenock, which they were asked to take over as well as running their mission.
My mum gave up the mission when my dad died and eventually moved to Canada beside her family.
My mum stayed in Canada until 2002 until she passed away. Her remains were returned to Scotland where she was buried beside my dad.
I hope that you enjoy this movie and can get a feel for the love that they had for one another.
I have included three songs to accompany the movie.
