Farmers to Benefit From $1 Million Bonus
2017 was another challenging year for both cocoa and nutmeg farmers after having to face a reduction in nutmeg price on the international market in February. The Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association (GCNA) managed to record some major achievement during the last nutmeg year under review, which includes paying $1 million in bonus to farmers this year.

Regaining Status
Grenada over the years has been known as the Isle of Spice.
However given the vast devastation of hurricanes Ivan and Emily, that view was changed.
Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association (GCNA) however says they are looking to change that perception in three to five years.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Agriculture in Barbados is encouraging Grenada and other Caribbean territories to return agriculture back to its rightful place, through the introduction of science and technology in farming. Barbados is now in the process of establishing a model farm that will be self-sustainable and at the same time promote entrepreneurship at the youth level within the sector. GBN was given a firsthand look at the early stages of development of the model farm, by assistant project manager of the Youth Agri-preneurship Incubator Programme.
