Sandormen, Grenen, Skagen, Frederikshavn, Region Nordjylland, North Denmark, Denmark, Europe
Sandormen is a wagon pulled by a tractor carrying people who want to visit the branch in Skagen from the parking lot and out to the branch. Sandormen runs every day from approx. pm. 10, and there are no more passengers. It does not run according to a fixed timetable, but run a car all the time. The season lasts from a week before Easter to one week school holiday. You may also book trips outside sæsone. The idea for Sandormen emerged in the late 1940s because there were retrieved rubble at the branch. It should be used for any construction after the war. In connection with the work to get this rubble there were several visitors, who asked to come up with the cart out to the branch, and thus, the idea of a regular service. In the first cars were benches borrowed from the mission house, later came roof and right windows in.
Where 2 Oceans Meet - Grenen Skagen & Teddy Bear Museum | Family Travel Vlog
We went to Skagen, the most Northern town in Denmark, to explore the beautiful town and the surrounding area. After a great fish and chips lunch, we went to see a teddy bear museum, after which we went up a tower with a great view over the whole town. All of the houses in Skagen, except for a few, are painted yellow with red roofs, which gives the town a very unique feel to it.
At the very top of Denmark, it's possible to see two oceans meeting - the Baltic sea and the North sea. We thought we might not get to go because of the weather, but even though it was kind of windy, it was still so amazing to see it. This is such a cool experience - but remember to bring your rubber boots!
Skagen is definitely a must see if you're visiting Denmark!

SKAGEN CAMPING - GRENEN - DENMARK
Skagen Camping is located on the outskirts of the Denmark's northernmost and sunniest town. If you're planning to see the Grenen Pensinsula (the Skagen Odde) this is a great place to stay.
The Skagen Camping is a vast camping site, very family-oriented, peaceful, quiet and relaxed. The staff are so friendly and helpful that our stay there almost felt like visiting family rather than staying at a camp. The numbered pitches are surrounded by trees and bushes, giving you all the privacy you need but without blocking the sun, that you can enjoy. The ground all around the camping is grassy and very even and there are two service buildings available to guests. A highlight of this camping site is undoubtedly the open air swimming pool with a set of sunbeds where you can enjoy this very sunny area of Denmark. Right next to the swimming pool is the TV room where you can also use the free internet. The wifi is not available enywhere else on the camping site, which can be seen as a downside, but on the other hand it makes you really appreciate the wonderful surroundings.
There is also a great sandy playground for kids, and a Dino mini golf court, adjacent to the camping ground. At the reception you can also rent bikes. You can get fresh bread at the reception every day.
The service buildings, the showers and the toilets are well maintained and clean. The showers are paid.
We spent 3 nights on this camping and we loved it! It is a family-style camping, and although the faicilities are not ultra-modern, we spend some wonderful times there feeling relaxed and welcome. Additional point goes for the swimming pool! Our overall rating is 10 out of 10 stars. If you want to relax and have a break from your busy life, you should definitely go to Skagen Camping.

Skagen, Denmark, where 2 seas meet
Movie taken on the most northern point of Denmark close to a town called Skagen.
The name of this spot is Grenen, it got this name for it's shape that looks like a tree-branch (gren in Danish).
On this spot, the 2 seas (Kattegat from the east and Skagerrak from the west) that fold around Denmark meet and their waves bump into each other.
It's quite a special sight, also the first time for me to ever see it.
I don't know if there are more places in the world where this happens. If so, please let me know in the comments!
Video taken on the 25th of October 2010 with an iPhone 4
Grenen, Skagen, Frederikshavn, Region Nordjylland, North Denmark, Denmark, Europe
Grenen is a long sandbar at Skagen Odde (the headland of Jutland), north of the town of Skagen. Grenen is often considered the northmost landarea of Denmark proper (excluding the Faroe Islands and Greenland), but the northmost point is actually located 2,5 km northwest of Grenen on the beach of Nordstrand and is 700 m further north to be precise. Grenen (English: The Branch) was named for its shape like a tree-branch, reaching out from the mainland. The beach of Grenen appears in many of the works of the Skagen Painters, a community who gathered here every summer between 1875 and the end of the century. The area is also home to the Skagen Odde Nature Centre, designed by Jørn Utzon. Near the tip of the peninsula, there are two small museums: Skagen Bunker Museum and Grenens Kunstmuseum. The Danish national road 40 passes through Grenen and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, with more than 1 million visitors each year. Grenen is the junction point between the strait of Skagerrak (part of North Sea) and the Kattegat sea and the powerful turbulence of the colliding seas, have created a 4 km long curved sandbar above and below the waves stretching east. The reef is still active and have grown about 1 km northeast towards Sweden over the last century, resulting in a mean annual growthrate of about 10 m. The currents and turbulence are very strong and it is prohibited and can be fatal, to take a swim in the waters around Grenen. The area surrounding Grenen is the place with the greatest amount of observed bird species, in all of Denmark. It is regarded as the best spot in Northern Europe, for observing birds of prey, during their migrations in spring. They often gather here, before crossing the seas to Bohuslän in Sweden. There are more migratory birds near Grenen, when the wind is from the south-east. If the wind is from the south-west, many birds choose a route across Funen and Zealand instead. The annual Skagen Birding Festival have been celebrated here since 2005, attracting more than a thousand visitors and participants. Grenen is also considered as one of the best places in Denmark to observe sea mammals. Mereswine and common seals are very common here and grey seals can often be spotted here year round as well. As the area attracts many birdwatchers with binoculars, Grenen have also offered many sightings of whales. The species most often reported are dolphins (especially white-beaked dolphins), northern minke whale and orcas. There have been many isolated reports from Grenen on more exotic animals like walrus, hooded seal, etc... By scientists, Grenen is viewed as a laboratory on both land formation and botany, as new land is continuously formed and shaped here and soon after colonized by first generation pioneering flora. Grenen have always been feared by sailors and many ships have run aground on the shallow reef through history. The first light signals was erected in the year 1561 on orders from King Frederik II after international pressure. It was not very effective and was not regularly attended, so in 1627 Skagen's Vippefyr, a coal- and wood-fired tipping lantern, replaced it until 1747, when Skagen's White Lighthouse was built. Nowadays the 44 m high Skagen's Grey Lighthouse, have done the job since 1858 and in 1956 the 26 m tall Skagen's West Lighthouse was added, making the heavy traffic in and out of Kattegat adequately safe.

Grenen in Denmark: Where two seas meet
Grenen, is for most practical reasons the tip of mainland Denmark. North Sea and Baltic Sea meet at this point, creating a spectacular 'collision' of seas.
