Underground Christmas Market, Traben-Trarbach - Germany 4K Travel Channel
The underground Christmas market in Traben-Trarbach was initiated some years ago and attracts inter-regional visitors today. The official name Mosel-Wine Night-Market indicates, that it is not a typical Christmas market. Here, one can also discover a lot about wine, enjoyment and culture.
The hustle and bustle primarily takes place in underground vaults, some dating back to the 18th century. They used to serve as a wine cellar, today as market halls. In the cozy corners you can enjoy a glass of wine. In addition to the big groined vault cellar of the Moselschlößchens and the cellar of the Old Town Hall, the cellar of the winery Axel Emert opened as wine-night-cellar this year. Local craftsmen, artists and merchants offer Christmassy decoration and gifts. The culinary pleasure is not missing.
Next to the entrance of the wine cellar Axel Emert, campers get a glimpse of what it feels like to sleep in a barrel. These camping-wine-Barrels can be rented at the campsite in the district Rißbach.
The ice rink set up at the old train station brings a lot of fun, especially for children. The plastic plates allow skating similar to skating on natural ice like.
A rich program, such as live music, curling or fashion shows accompanies the christmas market at different locations.
Besides Christmas shopping, one has a lot of possibilities getting to know nice people or enjoying the view of the Moselle.
At night, the illuminated Trarbach beautifully reflects in the water of the river Moselle. The ruins of Grevenburg castle seem to levitate above the town.

Der unterirdische Weihnachtsmarkt in Traben-Trarbach wurde vor einigen Jahren ins Leben und ist mittlerweile überregional bekannt. Wie der offizielle Name Mosel-Wein Nachts-Markt schon erahnen lässt, ist es kein typischer Weihnachtmarkt, sondern es gibt auch einiges rund um Wein, Genuss und Kultur zu entdecken.
Neben klassischen Ständen auf den Straßen findet das Treiben vor allem in unterirdischen Gewölben statt, die zum Teil aus dem 18. Jahrhundert stammen. Früher dienten sie als Weinkeller, heute als Markthallen. In gemütlichen Ecken kann man ein Gläschen Wein genießen. Neben dem großen Kreuzgratgewölbekeller des Moselschlößchens und dem Keller des Alten Rathauses gehört in diesem Jahr auch der Keller des Weingutes Axel Emert zu den Wein-Nachts-Kellern. Hier bieten lokale Handwerker, Künstler und Händler weihnachtliche Dekoration und Geschenkartikel an. Auch das Kulinarische kommt nicht zu kurz.
Am Eingang zum Weinkeller Axel Emert bekommen Camper einen Einblick wie es sich anfühlt in einem Fass zu übernachten. Diese Fässer können auf dem Campingplatz im Ortsteil Rißbach gemietet werden.
Beim alten Bahnhof wurde eine Schlittschuhbahn eingerichtet, die vor allem Kindern jede Menge Spaß beschert. Die Kunststoffplatten erlauben das Schlittschuhfahren wie auf natürlichem Eis.
Begleitend zum Weihnachtsmarkt wird in der Lorettahalle, im Brückenkeller, im Bürgersaal und im alten Rathaus ein reichhaltiges Rahmenprogramm, wie Live-Musik, Curling oder Modenschauen geboten
Neben Weihnachtseinkäufen bieten sich viele Möglichkeiten nette Menschen kennen zu lernen oder den Ausblick auf die Mosel zu genießen. Nachts spiegelt sich das illuminierte Trarbach wunderschön im Wasser der Mosel. Die Ruine der Grevenburg scheint über der Stadt zu schweben.

Endlich wieder Trail Wetter heute von der Grevenburg unter nach Trarbach.
Zu entschuldigen ist noch das falsche Datum auf der einen Kamera und das die Positions Einstellung noch nicht perferkt ist,
war halt heute alles wieder das erste mal im Einsatz für dieses Jahr.
Leider war der untere Abschnitt nicht befahrbar da dieses durch Forstarbeiten in mitleidenschaft geraten ist

Grevenburg was a castle in Traben-Trarbach in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany.The castle was formerly the residence of the Rear County of Sponheim and today is a ruin following its destruction by the French in 1734.

This is a video of the drive on L190 from Traben Trarbach to Irmenach Germany. It is an uphill drive from the Mosel River valley to the plateau of the Hunsrück through Riesling grape vineyards. This video was taken in 1990 while I was stationed at Hahn Air Base.
