BUSHRANGERS BAY - NSW - OZINDOBUSHWALk

Bushrangers Bay is an aquatic reserve located in Bass Point Reserve, just south of Shellharbour Village.
This is an excellent sheltered dive and snorkelling site with the inner and the outer bay. The three hectare aquatic reserve protects the abundance of plant and sea life within the area, divers and snorkellers are requested not to touch the soft corals at they break off easily. Fishing or destroying marine life including removing empty shells is not permitted within the reserve.

[WIN News Illawarra] Labor pledges $4.3million for Shellharbour foreshore upgrade

A Foley Labor Government will invest up to $4.3 million to fund a major upgrade of the Shellharbour Foreshore, Member for Shellharbour, Anna Watson, announced today.

“The Shellharbour foreshore is a major tourism focus for the city.

“Today, I am very pleased to announce that up to $4.3 million will be set aside from Labor’s $380 million Illawarra Infrastructure and Investment Fund, to fully-fund key individual projects which make up the foreshore master plan completed by Shellharbour City Council.

“Labor’s Illawarra Infrastructure Investment Fund is about providing the Illawarra with a fairer deal from the sale proceeds of the Port of Port Kembla, which we never got under the State Liberal Government.

“Today’s announcement is a further clear example of how Labor will ensure that the southern Illawarra will get its fair share from the proceeds of one of our regional key assets”, she said.

Ms Watson said the $4.3 million in funding would see the following key projects completed from the Shellharbour Foreshore Master Plan:

- Cowrie Island boat ramp and slipway improvements;
- Grey Park Improvements;
- Beverly Whitfield pool Improvements;
- Closure of foreshore reserve roadway and car park reconfiguration;
- Shellharbour South Beach linked by shared pathway to Shell Cove and Bass Point;
- Cowrie Island board walk linked to Shellharbour North Beach;
- Little Park improvements;
- Shellharbour Beachside Tourist Park upgrades.

Ms Watson said that it was ironic that Shellharbour City Council lodged an application under the State Liberal Government’s Restart Illawarra Infrastructure Fund for this very project, but it was rejected by the panel established by the Member for Kiama, Gareth Ward MP.

Ms Watson said today’s funding announcement comes on top of recent pledges by Labor for the Shellharbour electorate, including:

- $380 million Illawarra Infrastructure Investment Fund
- $44 million towards the construction of a new high school at West Dapto;
- Introduction of an increased nurse-to-patient ratio at Shellharbour Hospital;
- Restoring the direct election of the Mayor of Shellharbour City by the people of Shellharbour;
- Replacing demountables at local schools with modern classrooms under Labor’s Building Better Learning Spaces Program;
- Introduction of registered nurses in aged care facilities across Shellharbour electorate;
- Abolition of the co-payment for chemotherapy patients; and
- Protecting local newsagents.

“Not one of my political opponents standing at this election has made any effort to announce any specific pledges on anything to do with the Shellharbour electorate and we’re just 16 days from polling day.

“This just shows that my political opponents are all full of hot air, motherhood statements and complaints, but when push comes to shove each of them have shown they take the people of my electorate for granted”, Ms Watson said.

“The only policy my Liberal opponent is pushing at this election is the sale of our electricity network, which will only push up power prices, slash jobs and cut maintenance.

“Even the National Party – the Liberals’ partner in their own Government – opposes the electricity network sell-off and will keep it in public ownership in country and regional New South Wales.

“If the National Party doesn’t trust the Liberals, why should the rest of us?”, Ms Watson said.

Killalea Reserve is a spectacular tract of coastal land that has been dedicated as a public recreation reserve available for surfing, fishing, picnics, bushwalking, and camping.
The Minnamurra River, an open mature wave dominated barrier estuary with Stack Island at the mouth. The locals call it Ragoon Island.
