Hiking the Lighthouse Trail in Cow Head, Newfoundland
The Cow Head Lighthouse trail will appeal to a wide range of hikers since it is just 1.5 km long and has many lookouts and a great side trail to the rocky shore line. The 500 meter (1 way) side trail to the tip of the peninsula is also well worth doing since it ends in a broad meadow and an interesting wave washed shoreline. The museum in Cow Head has maps of the trail.

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada
Gros Morne National Park is located on the west coast of Newfoundland, the easternmost province of Canada. At 1,805 km2 (697 sq mi), it is the second largest national park in Atlantic Canada; it is surpassed by Torngat Mountains National Park, which is 9,700 km2 (3,700 sq mi).
The park takes its name from Newfoundland's second-highest mountain peak (at 806 m or 2,644 ft) located within the park. Its French meaning is large mountain standing alone, or more literally great sombre. Gros Morne is a member of the Long Range Mountains, an outlying range of the Appalachian Mountains, stretching the length of the island's west coast.

Exploring Cape Spear, Newfoundland and Labrador
This is the place where the sun rises first. The most easterly point in North America, where seabirds, whales and icebergs pass by to feed on capelin and krill. Hiking the Long Range Traverse (LRT), Gros Morne, Newfoundland 2016
We began our unmarked 5-day trek across The Long Range Traverse trail in Newfoundland, Gros Morne National Park.
This was one of the hardest yet most rewarding adventures we've ever been on to date. The trail pushes new limits, defines new strengths (and weaknesses!). When you actually have no choice but to keep on going, you define the undefinable. You push harder than you've ever pushed before simply because you have no other choice. It's either keep on keeping on, or calling a helicopter to your rescue. There is no civilization for miles and miles around. It is you vs. the elements!
If you're thinking about hiking this trail- this video sums up all the highs you'll go through!

Gros Morne is the second highest peak on the island of Newfoundland. Often capped with clouds, or clothed in fog or snow, the mountain's mystery is reflected in its name: Gros Morne... big lone mountain. We made it!
